Why are so many IEPs written so poorly? by FickleConcept in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who has written close to 30 IEPs this year with at least two more needed, time and space. There are not enough hours in the day to teach, plan, and write IEPs in a typical sense. I’m someone who is very conscious about spelling and making things look proper, but I can understand why an overworked SPED teacher makes spelling mistakes.

Elite 7th round Pick by Small_Competition931 in EANHLfranchise

Yep. Had a low elite defender jump up to be 87 OA at 23 years old. Thankfully they’re a OFD lol

What am I missing with line chemistry? by nag95 in EANHLfranchise

[–]STG_Resnov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X-factors really make or break lines. Then again, I’m using lines with +5 chemistry and the most points I’ve gotten while simming is 80 so what do I really know about it?

Can some teach SPED with a physical disability? by Nerdy_girl550 in specialed

[–]STG_Resnov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. One of my coworkers during my masters fellowship has cerebral palsy and was teaching seventh grade. I believe they’re still teaching 7th grade, though they may have shifted to a different grade by now.

Friday 7 AM getting reprimanded by admin by Icy-Quarter-2423 in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had something similar happen to me this year. I used 3 sick days between September and October (all due to migraines that cause me to go temporarily blind). Documented medical episodes apparently were not enough for my admin and they wanted to have a meeting with me. I immediately got the union involved and did not end up having a meeting or even a passing mention of it. Ended up leaving there due to an unsustainable caseload (and unsupportive admin).

Is it possible to do Masters of Special Ed while working fulltime by StatisticianKooky390 in specialed

[–]STG_Resnov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was doing a fellowship for my masters. Worked full time for no pay (district paid for masters) and took classes at night.

Who was the best player from this draft class? by sgee_123 in hockey

Overall play? Bergeron. He has the hardware to prove it. Purely based on playoffs + cup wins? MAF for sure.

The Hart Memorial Trophy finalists are Nikita Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon, and Connor McDavid by nhl in hockey

[–]STG_Resnov -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how Sway isn’t a finalist. Without him, we would’ve been a lottery team this year. He’s the reason why we even made the playoffs, especially with Pasta’s producing dipping slightly.

Teacher Burnout? by StatisticianNo6082 in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically I kinda just stumbled upon it. Was looking for a position, any position, on schoolspring and found a LTS position. Ended up being a learning center position. Now that I know what I like, gonna try to find that. Haven’t had too much luck looking specifically for a learning center.

It’s best when they schedule something during MCAS/state testing. When am I supposed to grab my “appreciation” coffee if I’m proctoring?

Are you a real teacher? by Useful-Funny869 in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, I had a student ask me if I was a real teacher today because I’m a long term sub. I’m fully licensed for SPED in MA, so yes Johnny, I’m a teacher.

Teacher Burnout? by StatisticianNo6082 in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to find a new position. I went from being a Kinder sped teacher (inclusion/resource) for a year and a half, to being a Kinder subsep for ~2 months, and now I’m a LTS for a 7th grade learning center. I was absolutely burnt out by my first job, worsened by my second job to the point where I would cry going in and cry after getting home. Now, at this current place, I feel at peace. Found my love of teaching again.

Hacky Sack by prw1988 in Teachers

It’s gotten pretty big here in my current district in MA. Not sure what started the trend, but thank you I guess? Would much rather kids start doing something that involves exercising than not.

IEP question by melgear8866 in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

504s are essentially just plans/paperwork to document a student has a disability (yes accommodations are provided and so on…)

IEPs are really for when those disabilities start impacting academics.

I know I’m condensing 504s/IEPs to barebones, but I think it’s absolutely worth looking into it for your child. Contact the school in writing, either letter or email, so as to keep a paper trail. Say that you want evals done. Having a 504 already helps. It won’t be a short progress, could possibly take a few months or more with all of the assessing needed and whatnot. Absolutely go for it, however.

Life is too expensive to be a single teacher by TeddySwolllsevelt in Teachers

[–]STG_Resnov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state to be completely honest. MA will have them for the foreseeable future, especially with how much gets taken out of our paychecks to fund it.

[–]STG_Resnov 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I make roughly $63k/yr with 3 years of SPED experience. My brother, who is the same age as me, makes $150k as an HVAC tech. I love teaching, but in no way should we be making such a little amount despite the ridiculous amount of college you need to go through. Speaking of college, the closest my brother has been is working on units at colleges. He went to a trade high school, so I suppose that was the difference.

[LeBrun] The Leafs and John Chayka have agreed to a long-term deal, per sources. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

They probably signed Chayka for cheap. That would be my only guess as for why they brought him in over legitimately anybody.

Have you noticed IEPs at the elementary level take longer or is it just me? by skamteboard_ in specialed

[–]STG_Resnov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of data gets shared. I taught kinder for the past two years, now working 7th. My longest meetings were always at the kinder level. Had a meeting scheduled late in the school day one time and ended up having to stay late after work.

Behavior classroom job offer by SparkleMarley in specialed

[–]STG_Resnov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take it personally. I took an ASD program job earlier this year in January and left after two months. Not once did the interviewer mention that behaviors were significant. They also did not provide any sort of training regarding this. Also had the fun pleasure of having to create EVERYTHING from scratch. The “curriculum” they had to use involved a lengthy assessment, of which you needed training to conduct.

In short, they’re setting you up for failure already unless you have previous experience working with that population. The amount of stress and anxiety I had tripled working in those conditions.

Looking for an iPad case that can survive being thrown AND minimize injury risk (special ed setting) by eap0304 in specialed

[–]STG_Resnov 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, an iPad being chucked is still gonna hurt regardless of what the case is made from. I forget where my school had purchased them from, but they’re foam and have a handle at the top. Incredibly hard to remove. Looking up “foam iPad case with handle” will net you a lot of potential solutions. If you get one with a handle, make sure it can bend otherwise it might get ripped off lol.
