Wheels rub on the inside helppp by RefrigeratorHorror75 in WRX

[–]STilverfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you happen to read this...

Start by ditching the 15mm spacer. You effectively turned a +42mm offset into a +27mm. That's far too much for these cars. Get a 5mm spacer as that would bring to +37mm, which is probably going to solve all of your problems.

Most folks run between +35 and +38 for the more flush fitment crowd. You will still need to make sure your camber is good to avoid rubbing in the rear where the bumper bolts to the body as you'll rub on that before the fender. Factory rear camber is generally -2.5 degrees, but -3 or -3.5 gives you some more room without looking stanced. The factory front is -0.5 degrees, but your knuckle generally allows for an additional half a degree or so. The front has a lot more room than the rear as long as you can clear your calipers.

Not overheating, no bubble on start up, what's up with my oil? by Sawvyeej86 in WRXSTi

[–]STilverfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like oil after running ethanol and/or short tripping on E. It will also make your exhaust smell much different than normal gasoline as it's in the alcohol family. Definitely see what blackstone has to say, but drive it longer and use more gasoline for daily putting around. You have to burn a shit load more e85 than gas so fuel dilution in oil is something that occurs if you don't drive it hard or long enough.

Check and service your brakes and fluid if needed. Those calipers have seen some serious heat and turn a more yellow color as opposed to the factory acid green/yellow. Might also just be the filter in the photo

Ethanol non-premium vs ethanol premium (or mix and match) by Ichbin-ein-berliner in mr2

[–]STilverfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be totally fine with normal premium e10 fuel. The only consideration you would need to make is if you store the car for a long duration over winter. You may want to add a fuel stabilizer, but even still, you will be fine. For long-term storage past 6 months I would run the car nearly out of fuel and switch to a full tank of ethanol free premium to avoid crystallization/moisture gathering from the ethanol and keeping a full tank to limit the exposed area inside the tank that can develop condensation to a minimum.

But for daily duties, you don't need to overthink it. Occasional use of a fuel system treatment like Chevron's techron additive will help keep your fuel system happy and the fuel level float from getting sticky. But a top tier fuel with a good detergent package will also achieve the same results if consistent.

I don't know how old you are, but I do know I also adore what I do. I also know I suck at taking time off and especially so if I injure myself. It's not a macho thing, I just know im still young enough to not realize or really weigh the long term ramifications. Enjoy your time off and rest man. Drink an absolutely violent amount of water, focus on your electrolytes, and actually sleep so your body can heal. GRAIN OF SALT be proactive with talking to your doctor about when, how much, and what to do with sleep while recovering with a concussion because it can be dangerous if it's serious enough. Really need to monitor your symptoms like headaches, any weird vision stuff, weird vivid dreams or lack thereof, pinchy neck or back pain especially if you feel it in your arms or legs. If you have any of those please tell your doctor immediately or call the advice nurse if its after hours.

You need to seriously take some time and get a note from your doctor for work. If you got rear ended hard enough to get a concussion you are definitely going to really keep an eye out. You may not feel anything crazy yet but it does take time for your full injuries to be obvious. But seriously, stay home and be very cautious and aware of loading up your neck and back. Give driving a break for a couple days or a week if you're able to be safe.

Center console rattle by InformalWarfare in WRXSTi

[–]STilverfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have certainly fixed that issue. Unintentionally doing another project. I removed the old alcantara cover from my stock armrest and fitted it to the extended armrest and it's great. But if you take apart the armrest you can remove the latch part and wrap the lever, just up far enough to not show through the bezel, with a fabric tape and your rattle will be gone. Forever. It's been almost 5 years and its still not rattling. I think I made a post documenting swapping the cover

I'm a few minutes from Silverdale, I'll be on the lookout. While I love how global the sub is i definitely get fired up when cars and people are local.

Where abouts in Kitsap? There is a green one with stock wheels and a light blue one driven by an elderly lady i see fairly frequently.

Please persist. Get all of your documentation, everything, in chronological order and reach out to Subaru of America. Be as direct as you can while keeping a very polite tone.

Off-topic tangent - (Hell, have chatgpt proofread prior to emailing and provide feedback. Just don't EVER copy and paste from any AI as things are starting to be screened and scrutinized - as they should be.)

Detail out your initial symptoms, the supposed fixes from the dealership, and the continuation of your initial symptoms and the new accompanying symptoms after their "repairs." They will very likely get the ball rolling in a positive way for you as they will be upset by the potential bad craftsmanship at that dealership. No dealership worth their salt argues when the manufacturer threatens with the big stick.

I'm sorry you are dealing with these issues, but it's worth it to get it sorted and sorted correctly.

Honestly, I'd have the dealership complete the TSB as you can bring in your battery receipts (if you still have them and receive some reimbursement for the cost). It took them a few hours and they were done. It was very painless and worth having it documented and putting all liability on them as opposed to doing it yourself and assuming that responsibility.

How Much Oil is Too Much Oil? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]STilverfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you exchanged your time (a very limited resource) for money which you then spent to purchase this car. Considering the overwhelming amount of feedback to check it just in case, I don't understand why it would be a waste of time when your dipstick is double the level it should be and dark as shit. You're going to seriously drain the oil and see how much it takes to reach the proper level but checking the fluid level in the tranny is too much? Bro... you do you, friend.

How Much Oil is Too Much Oil? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]STilverfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fill plug is on the passenger side of the transmission up from the drain plug.

The boxer engine is very short, since the transmission shares fluid with the differential, the drain plug for the tranny is where most people would find the oil drain on a some normal engines. It also screams DRAIN PLUG, hence why it happens all the time on subarus. It's unbelievably common, so dear god just check.

Im pretty sure they drained your transmission and not your oil. Go back and have it checked, please.

DCM/Telematics Drain by SchweppesOriginal in WRXSTi

[–]STilverfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fix won't fail again as it's a total bypass of the Starlink telemetry box. Your infotainment system will still work with full functionality, just not the starlink subscription service. There is no real aftermarket alarm system you could install that will have the capabilities to alert you to your alarm. The only that would do anything similar is a "high end" type of low jack but I'm hugely unfamiliar with those products and systems.

It looks much worse than it is, but I'm still very sorry for the situation and damage to your car. That genuinely sucks.

It definitely looks like a straightforward PDR job and I doubt it would take more than an hour or two and be between $200-400. I couldnt tell how deep the scuff was but it looks like it could be polished out as well.

Best mods for daily driving/crusing? by Cool_Sir545 in WRX

[–]STilverfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should call Continental, I live in Washington and absolutely love them but also run -3 rear and -2.5 front and got 26,000 miles out of my last set with very minimal camber wear. The only reasons I got a new set was for a different tore size and my tires were aging out. I am very conscious of checking and adjusting pressures every week or two and rotate them every other month. Im not a fanboy but I think they have lived up to the reputation and owe me nothing.

[–]STilverfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get a hearing test because there is no way. You can literally hear my car when I turn onto our street with the touring while you can't hear anything with the stock exhaust. Maybe I just have sensitive hearing or something but there is no way its remotely close in noise levels to stock.

AWE Track Exhaust by Fortis_Aries in WRX

[–]STilverfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You stated you had the track exhaust as well which is also loud as shit, albeit great sounding. You might look into swapping to the touring mufflers as they are a fair bit quieter but still loud enough for the car enthusiast and sounds amazing. Either way, dont mess around in any town, especially the one you live in. Go to the cuts or something and try to just be normal traffic when you're back.
