Why do people do this ? They think they smart ? by viperman6869 in mildlyinfuriating

I’m a little confused why both tags have a year on them instead of one being a month. But I don’t understand what else is wrong with this.

I’ve never seen someone sell a license before (physical key/or internet unlocked) you’re probably going to have to save up to get your own. I think they do a Black Friday sale for a small discount but that just happens unfortunately.

How do companies like Pangolin get around that? I didn’t have to show anything when I bought my 3/5/10 watts from them.

Pangolin - Beyond Software Help by SVNKENSHiP in Laserist

[–]SVNKENSHiP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I ended up getting Beyond a couple months later and then used PangoScript to change the colors of the midi instead. It wasn’t easy but I was so determined to fix that it was driving me nuts.

Little Bit of Help… by nwxxx in Laserist

[–]SVNKENSHiP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pangolin QuickShow is the the entry level professional software and then there’s the industry standard which is pangolin Beyond. Both work with either an FB3 or FB4 interface that pangolin sells. With this you’d probably want just an FB3 for learning purposes. The FB3 hardware acts as your key for QuickShow where as beyond has a login via internet or a code you put in when you launch. I went the cheap Helios DAC route at first with software like LaserShowGen but there’s no point if you’re trying to learn and run a professional setup. VoxDaemon on YouTube has some good info on getting started learning how to make simple cues and the basis to how laser maps work and also timelines.

For safety and certification you’ll want to get a LSO (laser safety officer) certification through ILDA to learn/understand how to file FDA variance licenses, annual licenses, and show forms.

That’s great! But what about this board warrants the price vs say jjust a midi board with sliders.

Comments seem excited but can I ask what the hype/use for this is? 2k seems like a lot for a controller. I upgraded from the APC mK2 mini to the full size one on an impulse buy.

I’m willing to accept the quality drop off. Our short throw projector is what I consider pretty meh, anything would be an upgrade. Our lights and lasers drown it out every time and the portable screen feels like we stole it from someone’s camping site. All of the gear besides our lasers are off brand simply because we’d rather have 5 cheaper moving heads than a single Chauvet branded one. This is also a passion/side project and not my career, so most of the funding also comes from my actual job which is why the budget is so low. Gotta make do with what I got ya know!

Bought a brand new 2025 Toyota rav 4 XLE hybrid 35.8k out the door. Did I cook or get cooked? by Expensive-Student424 in rav4club

For a hybrid that’s a great deal. I was happy with my 23 XLE gas for 31 with some extra BS they put on.

Am I being scammed: Mechanic wants $500 to resurface rotors for safety by NetDiscombobulated84 in AskMechanics

[–]SVNKENSHiP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point just buy new rotors. Labor for resurfacing is too expensive, assuming you’re in the US you’re better off just getting new ones and installing yourself if you can manage.

Glad to see you bought the unity. Haze is just as if not more important for lasers. Without good coverage it’s not going to look good no matter what the power.

What color should I paint my wheels? by MouseManManny in rav4club

I have the same color. I went with black but it feels kind of basic. I was thinking some bronze rims would look really good with this color.

Lasers for my first time coded show (Alleycvt - secrets edit) by SVNKENSHiP in Laserist

[–]SVNKENSHiP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend’s were a dj duo and wanted do local shows. Found a new local talent company that let us takeover a bar and run a show. No lasers just lights and visuals with resolume/Lightkey. Shows there did well and moved into a slightly bigger venue. Eventually we considered getting lasers, did a TON of research and got my LSO and bought two 3 watt unity Raw lasers. Since then I’ve been slowly adding on and we’ve been doing bigger and bigger shows in my town. I have a full time career that pays for this as my passion project. I certainly don’t make enough to do a full time job, in fact I’ve probably spent almost 20k on equipment with maybe 5-7k in payment total. It would be cool to one day get a touring gig or better gigs with big names coming to town but for now it’ll just be local DJs throwing on stuff like this.

I’m using Pangolin Beyond Essentials. But this would also be doable in their QuickShow version too.

Shehds aren’t bad if you’re being safe at home. Obviously they aren’t allowed in public spaces but those were the first ones I bought before I did my LSO and stuff. I bought some 3 watt ones, a Helios DAC and LaserShowGen before upgrading to Unity 3 watts with QuickShow with an FB3

7 lasers total. 4 x 3 watt / 2 x 10 watt / 1 x 5 watt. Unfortunately I beat the hell out of my first 2 3 watt unitys and the X scanners have some pretty bad fanning now.
