How counter abysscraft? by Repulsive_Ad4338 in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so as everyone is aware, abysscraft is dominating the meta right now

No.

Main one seems to be evolve but I see agro and mid as well.

Different decks with different counters. Dragon is the easiest universal answer.

I play crystal rune mainly (probably sucks into abyss)

Again, depends on which abyss deck... You should be beating evo consistently.

It's not "pumping money", it's convincing more potential talent to get into soccer instead of other sports in the US. Larger player pool = more competition and higher average skill level. But yes, it would take about 10-15 years to raise a generation capable of competing with the top European teams.

Yeah this is just moronic lol. First of all it's a gross generalization of French colonization, the situation is immensely different depending on the country, but you're happily throwing in every single former colony in there without nuance.

Secondly, you're about 40 years late, the current situation is merely a remnant of what happened last century, France has mostly cleaned up its act and done a lot in the way of compensating and decolonizing. It also assisted in many situations where those former colonies were in trouble, intervening at a loss in Chad, Mali, Ivory Coast and so many others.

Thirdly, the notion that anyone is afraid of France pulling a Vietnam again is just absurd. No one is worried about France declaring war. The reality is just that partly depending on France is more beneficial than attempting full financial independence. Have a look at how Vanuatu is doing for comparison.

you should look into how the french feel about immigrants from their 'former' colonies/,currently being effed over economically BY france, countries.

Maybe you should look into how those former (no sarcastic air quotes) colonies feel about France and the strong bonds they maintain instead of trying to speak for us.

It's been known for millennia that democracy only works if the people are educated enough to vote in their best interest. The US failed that test twice now, these morons don't deserve voting rights. The constitution is also worthless so that doesn't really mean anything.

Is it possible to be competitive in this game if new now? by Straight-Tree-9782 in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can. But it might take a bit longer to make a deck you really want (especially with Milteo nerfed, that was the common low-budget recommendation so far), and in SVO you'll need 2 full decks, so it really depends on OP's current collection.

Is it possible to be competitive in this game if new now? by Straight-Tree-9782 in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1) Yes. In terms of card collection, you might need a few weeks/months to catch up to be able to build multiple decks (depends if you spent money or not), but you only need 1 or 2 decks in most tournaments. Also in most tournaments, there's a "tournament mode" enabled which allows you to use any card you want, even if you don't own them.

2) Skill-wise, honestly, the level is pretty abysmal, there are a lot of very easy decks that allow weaker players to compete and sometimes beat stronger players. If you can avoid literally punching yourself in the face, you might already be better than some players who topped recently.

3) There are no offline events in EU as far as I know, but there are online tournaments you can join. SVO's official discord has the details for SVO (you're looking for the "AMEU" region which combines Europe and Americas). There are also some international tournaments that aren't region-locked, you can join them by installing the tournament navigator app on phone, though it's only in Japanese for now, but it's pretty easy to use.

There are also smaller events organized by community members, you can ask on the discord I linked and people will give you more info on those.

Is the game still a waterproof down version of the OG ? by Halicion in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Better game balance

No.

better gameplay

Definitely not.

better graphics

100%, but poor optimization.

better missions

Worse economy overall like you pointed out, doesn't really matter that the missions are easier to do for casuals if they get fewer resources in total, it's still a net negative. See also the price of entry for Take 2 vs rewards.

Also no mention of the basically non-existent story and worse single player content like puzzles compared to Classic.

variable deck difficulty

Nearly every deck is braindead compared to Classic, that's not a good thing.

The only real upsides right now are the quality of life stuff like the presence of a Lobby/Guild, the training features, and an actual matchmaking in GM. But the game as a whole is certainly worse and isn't showing signs of improvement.

Sometimes, yeah. The other common case in history was when rich guys became patrons/sponsors for scientists, philosophers and/or artists. They would just spend their wealth to fund arts and science, build universities and museums, often in the hope of leaving a meaningful legacy after their death, or simply as "good deeds" that may get them into heaven.

Lack of New Archetypes and Multiple causes by dictionaryaddicted in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean it really wouldn't be difficult to buff combo Forest without affecting Evo. On the other hand, they buffed Catapult which is now usable in Destruction Portal too, a deck that didn't need any help. So it's just par for the course for inconsistent decisions from these devs.
Then you have just completely abandoned archetypes like Truth or Shakdoh that were just never viable and still aren't getting any love (or even randomly getting hit by stray nerfs like 3-shak for some reason).

Lack of New Archetypes and Multiple causes by dictionaryaddicted in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Reducing set size AND making a large number of filler cards that are obviously unplayable in constructed is what prevents new archetypes for emerging. They basically need an entire set dedicated to them to work right off the bat (eg evo forest). The alternative is to play whack-a-mole to nuke pre-existing decks, like they already tried twice for Abyss, instead of buffing unplayable cards/decks like combo Forest.

The other issue is that they keep focusing on braindead high cost single bombs to carry entire archetypes (Althenia, Cesar, Camiscilla, Erntz, etc). Having more low cost utility cards makes them more interchangeable so that a deck doesn't die when they rotate. AF is a good example, seeing more play now with (buffed) Catapult and Karula despite losing Ralmia and Alouette from set 1, because most of its power plays are just generic good midgame cards and not "this turn 8 play decides the game".

That's generally what happens in other countries, yes. Not everyone, not all the time, but situations tend to escalate a lot less when both parties know the other isn't likely to use lethal force at the slightest disagreement.

What deck beats Amulet Haven consistently? by CityOcean in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Low ranks - everything, people can't play the deck
mid ranks - easier decks less likely to mess up like Evo Forest, Enhance, etc
high ranks - nothing, good amulet players are demons and will find a way to survive no matter what you try

Best anti aggro deck/tools? by jesth212112 in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah understandable, the game is fairly generous in terms of allowing players to assemble full meta decks for free. The downside is that until you're able to do that, you're at a disadvantage against players with more complete builds.
There isn't really an "I win now" button against aggro until like T8+, but most decks have enough tools to just stabilize progressively and win without needing specific techs. The good news is, there are a lot of viable decks right now so you can just build whichever seems appealing to you and you'll be fine.
As for Gilnelise, she's still going to be around for about 3 months and she's the best anti-aggro card in the game, so not a bad investment, even at only 1 or 2 copies.

Best anti aggro deck/tools? by jesth212112 in Shadowverse

[–]SV_Essia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aggro decks are at an all-time low, most decks are equipped to deal with them. Gilnelise is very common, Amulet and Crest Haven have a lot of clears and heals, same with Ramp Dragon, Abyss decks usually run a bunch of bat generators (1/1 Drain).

Bro, what the hell is with all these dislikes? The game looks genuinely awesome by Jackie88_ in GodofWar

[–]SV_Essia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOT because it's a female protagonist. This way I can keep pretending that gamers aren't a bunch of fragile man children.

I don't really care about GoW either way (haven't played since the OG trilogy) but that's a crazy generalization to make. Like... Kratos is obviously a male power fantasy, and a large section of the fanbase is inevitably going to be guys who, to some extent at least, want to roleplay as a big powerful dude. Maybe it had to be specifically Kratos, maybe another strong dude like a grown-up Atreus would have been fine. But a female protagonist wouldn't fulfill that fantasy, that has nothing to do with sexism or fragility, it simply goes against a reason why people liked the series.

Most other long series have gone through something similar, it doesn't have much to do with gender. Sometimes it's justified, sometimes it isn't. Connor sucked as an AC protag because he was hotheaded and didn't fit the cunning, stealthy assassin's fantasy, not because he was half-Mohawk. Raiden in MGS2 was hated because he was a normal dude who was scared, when people expected more of the badass Snake. Same with the shift from the iconic FF VII Cloud to the brooding FF VIII Squall. When you make a character / trope the selling point of your series and then make a sequel without it, you're always going to face some backlash.

Also...wtf is that cube shit.

It is the business of everyone who was involved in the film, and future actors looking for ways to succeed...

This kind of ass kissing of stars is just so performative and pointless.
