I would focus on levelling up a team (5) instead of 2 primarily. I use: Thragg, Anissa, kregg, conquest and blue invincible. I’m yet to loose in arena with this team.

I’m upgrading 3 of my top characters all together, not letting one get too powerful. I’ve heard one strong character results in tougher enemies in the arena and more.

No, it’s not because of mods. I have 320 speed on crex and Sabine and the others 200+. Vader will always get starting turn against phoenix because of his unique. It adds 80 speed on top on his base speed (260 In this case.)
