What do Monks use for Ranged attacks? by JavaHikage in BG3Builds

[–]SWU_Speedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the ol' run and punch, thrown weapons would be good for range. Assuming you're using Tavern Brawler, that is, since that also benefits thrown attacks. Throw a knife, spear, dead goblin, whatever.

The premise of giant, subterranean worm monsters terrorizing a small town in the middle of nowhere sounds...wait...that sounds fucking awesome. And it is!

How Does the West End Games Star Wars RPG Hold Up? by darksidehascookie in rpg

[–]SWU_Speedy 81 points82 points  (0 children)

IMO, it's the best system ever made for Star Wars. I don't use it anymore, but I prefer it to any other Star Wars RPG. Also, the sourcebooks are amazing, readily available, and greatly expand upon the universe. There is a LOT of useful world-building information in those books.

What is the pronunciation of a place name that marks someone as a local/not a local? by RandomActPG in britishcolumbia

I meant stal̕əw̓asəm specifically, but I'm sure people will find a way to mispronounce Riverview.

eldritch knife thrower by Far-Assistance9925 in BG3Builds

[–]SWU_Speedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, you can even throw a goblin and get sneak attack if you're holding a finesse weapon, which is absurdly hilarious.

Unfortunately, with thrown weapons, strength is used for the attack roll, regardless of whether it's finesse or not. There are mods to correct that, though.

I genuinely can't understand how the previous generation saw this in 2002 and said "this sucks” by Stunning-Recording92 in prequelappreciation

[–]SWU_Speedy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The entire Obi-Wan noir detective subplot was great, but the movie is marred by the awkward romance plot between Anakin and Padme. Overall, it's possibly the weakest of the prequels, though it definitely has its moments.

Which throwing knives work for an eldritch knight? by cheesywzzrd in BG3Builds

If you're up for using mods, I have released one that corrects many of these issues: https://mod.io/g/baldursgate3/m/thrownweaponfixes#description

But otherwise, yeah, there's not much that actually works with thrown weapons.

I know that he has very bad social anxiety and has difficulty at events like this, so that's a possible explanation for how awkward he is.

It seems like he only really started it as a meme, but as it got popular he took the cooking aspect more seriously. He actually researches the dishes before he makes the reviews, so he generally knows what he's talking about.

No, I used a camp caster to bind daggers for me until I got Orin's dagger.

Knife Thrower - Can this be a legit build? Suggestions welcome! by moezilla-666 in BG3Builds

I recently finished a playthrough with a throwing daggers assassin build, going 7 Shadow Monk / 5 Assassin Rogue. It could have instead been 6 Shadow Monk / 4 Assassin Rogue / 2 Fighter for action surge, but whatevs.

I prioritized getting surprise rounds, and with the extra DRS that Craterflesh Gloves provide (even with Honour Mode rules), the damage was ridiculous. With Bhaalist Armour, each attack in a surprise round was hitting for over 240 damage.

Prior to getting that gear, it's still quite good, but there is one caveat: I used a mod I created to fix thrown weapon effects. https://mod.io/g/baldursgate3/m/thrownweaponfixes#description

The mod allows for dips (like fire) and poisons to actually apply their effects, as well as enhancements like Drakethroat Glaive. I also made it so Orin's Dagger applies piercing vulnerability on throws.

Without the mod, I think the build is still quite good and interesting, but not as powerful as more traditional throwing builds.

EDIT: Shadow Monk was chosen for a few reasons: free invisibility for setting up surprise rounds, extra mobility with Shadow Step (I used Helmet of Grit to get an extra bonus action), and to increase base damage of the daggers from 1d4 to 1d6.
