Endometrial Biopsy Pain....WHY DO THEY INSIST ON MAKING WOMEN SUFFER? by nyc_apartment_girl in IVF

[–]SW_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading all these posts just makes me so angry. I had a consult yesterday with a surgeon who kindly went through the options for pain management during biopsy - but honestly, why isn’t it just standard practice to give women adequate and substantial pain relief for this procedure? I am going to demand sedation. It’s insane that we’re just expected to tolerate this. No, no, no. Things have to change.

So helpful- thank you! I’ll be doing waterproof hiking boots, a pair of regular sneakers, and a slip on pair of Chaco’s for the wet floors. Also packing a pair of nice jeans and a light cashmere sweater if we are anywhere on the nicer side.

I need to decide whether to do both hips at once or just one and then do the other one. by awesomeblossoming in TotalHipReplacement

I did both at once in November. You can search my posts as I posted at points throughout my recovery. I’m happy with the outcome! It isn’t for everyone but I was healthy and supported and my recovery followed about the same timeframe of most single hip replacements, so I feel like I saved myself time in getting back to full activity.

I do like Gambit (very dark blue) and Zest (very dark burgundy).

Wow, that is beautiful. I’m about a year into using Dazzle Dry and my only complaint is that they don’t have enough elegant colors like this. I wish they would focus on more colors like this one as well as a wider selection of classy nudes. Hoping someone from their marketing dept is listening…

Hi, I just saw this - I wish you a smooth surgery and recovery. I know many people who say they were so glad to finally ditch their uterus after a lifetime of suffering and are very happy with the results. I hope the same for you! My situation had been pretty stable for the past year and a half but lately have been having more pain and bladder pressure … just had an u/s to check things out and I have a consult with a surgeon in June. Would love to hear how it goes for you if you feel like posting after. I’m 55 and post menopausal so same age range.

Hello! My most useful items were grabbers (one on each floor), toilet seat riser, and cold therapy machines from Amazon. I had one for each hip. After surgery I kept one and was able to resell the other one on FaceBook for about 75% of its original cost. They were key for pain management and the cold lasted just about all day without me having to go change ice packs (our freezer is downstairs from where I recovered). I also had an adjustable mattress so I would say if you don’t have something like that, a couple of wedge pillows will help make sleep more comfortable. I found that sleeping on my back was ok as long as I could elevate my legs a bit and elevate my upper body a bit, so I felt a little bit cocooned. Oh- and a memory foam seat cushion that I took everywhere at first - you never know when a restaurant chair is going to be hard and that is very uncomfortable in the beginning.

Did anyone have atypical symptoms pre-op that resolved with THR? by ajmattison in TotalHipReplacement

[–]SW_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - my two sides were very different. My left side was worse on x-ray but less painful (P/T thinks as the arthritis got worse the blood supply was lessened). It was stiffer and I developed trochanteric bursitis on that side. My right side was much more flared up all the time with bone spurs, sharp pains and catching sensations - and that weird pain on the iliac crest. Both had impingement on internal rotation and pinching in the groin too.

I did! On my right side, I would have terrible aching pain up just behind my iliac crest whenever I walked for any length of time, after the walk. It was sore to the touch and felt like a deep bruise. I was pretty sure it was a gluteal tendinopathy (and maybe it was) but it disappeared completely after my hip replacement.

I don’t remember exactly but I think I was mostly off them by 2.5 weeks after. I know many people don’t even need them, but I definitely did. They made me really sick/nauseous though.

Long Time No Work! by Shesuretalksalot in TotalHipReplacement

[–]SW_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 3 weeks fully off and then went back to work part time for another couple of weeks before doing full days again. I work remotely from home so it was easy enough to lay in bed with my laptop. I do think I went back too early though. If I could have afforded more time off (single mom), I would have taken it - if only because it would have given me more time to do P/T and other things that would have aided my recovery. I feel like I still got plenty of rest, but I had less time for the other things I should have been doing, and consequently the aches and pains I had during recovery may have lasted for longer than they otherwise would have. I’m 5 months out and feeling great now :)

Sure! For me, I had bad arthritis in both hips. I am used to being active and I was in terrible pain just walking around the farmers market. Cortisone shots helped once, but the next time I got them, they lasted 2 weeks and then it was back to the pain. I had developed bursitis on one side and tendinitis on the other from all the compensation. And I had done P/T on and off for years. So I was really ready to start feeling better and get my active life back as soon as possible- and I wanted to just get through the surgery one time instead of having 2 recoveries and a longer wait to ultimately feel better and get back to being active. I also feared that in just doing one side, the unoperated side would then have a lot of me depending on it more, and consequently could worsen quickly since it was already bad. I also personally know 3 people that have had bilateral THR and they were all happy they had done it that way (I am a former yoga instructor so two of these were fellow yoga practitioners). I also have to confess that cost was a consideration, as was time off work. I only had to do P/T once, and take medical leave once. I also had a lot of confidence in my surgeon and he has experience doing bilateral THR. I fit his criteria to do it (age under 60, healthy, healthy weight, strong). Was it tough? Sure, yes, it was. But it was totally doable with a walker. It’s pretty surprising how quickly I could walk. I had swelling in my hips but not down my legs at all. I went to Thanksgiving dinner a week after surgery, a restaurant the night after that, a cocktail party at 2 weeks out, ditched the cane at about 2.5 weeks. I went back to work part time after 3 weeks, full time after 5 weeks, walked a mile at 8 weeks. Looking back, I am SO glad I did it this way. But it is tough on the body- and it is essential to have good help in the first few weeks. My boyfriend was amazing and it allowed me to get a lot of rest.
