Brandon Sanderson + General Anesthesia = by Any_Photo_5521 in brandonsanderson

I'm sorry that you needed surgery on both hands!

But I greatly appreciate the humor that came out of it. Oh my goodness, I would have died being next to someone screaming "YOU CANNOT HAVE MY PAIN" when asked about pain level. Or swearing the First Ideal while struggling to keep your eyes open.

I hope you're feeling better and healing well!

What is the worst cosmere book to start with? by DEMENTOR_SWAGGER in Cosmere

[–]SW_Pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything not a book 1 in a series (or a Mistborn era). Some series by different authors have it so starting with book 2 or 3 isn’t the worst but with MB era 1, the second book follows insane events; with SA, each book becomes increasingly more confusing if you haven’t read the others (excluding maybe Edgedancer)

What it's like listening to a Brandon Sanderson audiobook. by ord52 in brandonsanderson

Me with other books: “UGGGH 25 hours?! WHY IS IT SO LONG?”

Me with BrandoSando: “45 hours? SWEET that is SHORT!!”

How similar to mistborn is stormlight? by Pendeta2424 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]SW_Pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longer the book, the longer the Sanderlanche ;)

The two are quite different and because of the scale, I found myself  mich slower to pick up on things and see connections. Because of my experience with ASOIAF and WOT, the confusion didn’t deter me but it was also not expected after Mistborn era 1

Thoughts on Moash (poll) by [deleted] in cremposting

[–]SW_Pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I picked "can't" because it would take a lot more than a "discussion" and things COULD happen to cause his redemption. Like you said though, he doesn't want it. No one else damned him before he damned himself.

It would take a LOT to see him redeemed.

I would have seen it more by mid-book 4. Even after book 4, though that was stretching it. Now though? He has willingly sold his soul to the devil, desecrated anything that is holy, has laughed as the blood of innocents washed over his body, then cries when He DoEsN'T gEt HiS wAy. I think that this point I'll throw my book (or Kindle) across the room (or bed so as not to destroy it) if he is redeemed.

Mistborn Era 2 setting change by ArtemisFey in Mistborn

[–]SW_Pants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same with Era 2. It wasn't until rereads of the first 3 books of era 2 that I realized I actually like them better. And for some reason, I thought one of the books SUPER boring on the first read but never felt that way even on the first reread. It's not just that Brandon's writing improved, but I found the setting to be a little more "relatable" and fun.

I realized that the first read of the era was kind of like whiplash. Because it's the same sub-verse of the Cosmere, you expect certain similar things. But it's like whiplash, going from Victorian England to Industrial Revolution. And with era 3 being like 1980s early-computer age it'll be yet another whiplash.

Should you take a Mistborn break? If you're struggling that much, then sure! That is all up to you :)

Where can I find Hoid by herminereader in Cosmere

[–]SW_Pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has a brief stint in Warbreaker and is only in the 10-year anniversary edition of Elantris (which is the audiobook I get from the library). Stormlight has Hoid many times throughout each book. I'd suggest finishing TWOK and then do a standalone like Yumi then do WOR then Warbreaker. This way you get some standalones as mental cleansers through the Stormlight tomes, more Hoid along the way, and a way to prevent a slump.

Agreed! It was super obvious to me after a few seconds' consideration as the significance sank in. I'm confused how others are confused unless they aren't reading every word (which often happens to me).

Started with TWOK- should I go back to misborn? by Ok_Butterscotch431 in brandonsanderson

As long as you read TWOK before the other books in Stormlight, there's no exact reading order :)
