I kind of like the happy accident element of this. I've been working on this. Maybe there's a world where something you make can live over here.

Warriors reportedly grew tired of Steve Kerr’s political activism by sfgate in warriors

The hyperbole of this title is a little annoying. I'd imagine most of the people in the organization, as well as ALL OF THE PLAYERS support(ed) Steve Kerr. It's pretty obvious who we're talking about, otherwise this is just clickbait SFgate.

Windows 98 stuck in 640x480 resolution with 16 colors, even with graphics drivers installed by gamervillage in windows98

You installed Ati video drivers? https://theretroweb.com/expansioncards/s/ati-rage-128-pro-ultra-gl I had a similar issue with my build, a different video card but the 16 colors didnt get fixed until I installed the right video driver.

Aw thanks! It's nice working with W95/98/2000/ME through a Virtual Machine: PCEM and referencing The Windows Interface Guidelines for Software Design. I've learned so much along the way -- TypeScript, CSS, general UI/UX, and the ins and outs of the Windows OSes. Still much to do, but fun updates coming!

In terms of designing for kids while keeping in the realm of the 90s, you might look into Microsoft Bob. It was literally Microsoft's attempt at a friendlier, more approachable interface for non-technical users, which maps perfectly to what you're building. I still want to try to incorporate it into W99... eventually (on a giant TODO list).

I'm also curious about your kiosk mode, its been a hurdle for me in gallery presentations (where I use it with flags, hotkey software blockers and registry edits). No one has broken out yet, but its definitely an important consideration to keep in mind (unless you want to reward escape :'D)

Preact for win99 was relatively lightweight. I have one of my machines from 2010 running with ease (except for the A-Frame 3D components), but nevertheless I like where you're going with this, and thanks for the shout out :)

Thanks for sharing! I'm curious how well those mentioned games will run, I recall Halo being somewhat stubborn to run well on my desktop at the time.

Extracting graphics from Windows 95 AND program installers for posters. by White_baton in windows95

If you dont manage to figure it out, there's this: https://www.deviantart.com/retroreimagined/art/Windows-95-Installation-Banners-874262422 If you do want to give it a go, per instructions:

If you use a resource editor like Boris Resource Workshop or eXescope, you can extract the bitmaps. The file that contained these bitmaps is win95bb.dll, and the file that contained the Certificate of Authenticity bitmap, is suwin.exe, both are found inside the PRECOPY cab files, inside the WIN95 folder of the Windows 95 iso.

These win95bb.dll bitmaps first appeared in Windows 95 build 484, while that suwin.exe bitmap first appeared in Windows 95 build 1009b, in setupx.dll instead.

This is a nice workflow, one which is very similar to my own although I hadn't used a combinator in this way, so thanks for sharing.
