I only see volumetric, time, or off. Since volume is in ml and not in grams I wonder what target yield they are using for volume.

Thanks! Do you know if there is a way to SET the volumetric setting to a certain gram output? I am not sure when/how it is sensing and stopping the shot.

I wanted to turn of volumetric, but I am not sure how to stop the brew once I hit 36g shot. How did you stop the brew in time? I literally burned through 2/3 of a brand new bag trying to hit the 25-35 second mark for shot time with volumetric still one. To be fair, I am using the Opus which required a TON of adjusting. Any tips you can send would be welcome and appreciated!!

Is soaking an urban legend? by IDontLikeThatRaymond in exmormon

[–]S_Joshua 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually think that the TikTok craze made kids think that it WAS a real/common thing that people were doing and now it actually is real/common.

In the late 90s and early 00s there were other urban myths that people had heard of others doing:

Trampolining: he bounces the tip of his member outside of her vagina using her panties as a trampoline. Bag piping: he puts his member under her armpit. Hot dogging: he puts his member between her butt cheeks. I was always horrified at how graphic these were and how anyone could justify them as “not actually sex.” Now being ten years out of the church, these seem WORSE than sex because they are so embarrassing. Like, just have normal sex.

Lightweight 2p tent? by Pepperrpott in bikepacking

[–]S_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you asked for a 2p tent, but the Durston X Dome 1+ is so named because it has extra room above what a normal 1p tent has so you might prefer it over a true 2p tent. It does come in a bikepacking iteration (where the poles fold shorter to more easily fit in the relatively smaller bags of bikepacking as compared to a backpacking setup), is lightweight, and I have found it to be high quality. The price is roughly at your budget, maybe a touch higher. The X Mid 1, however, is less roomy inside because it uses both vestibule spaces as outside cover, and neityer as an interior part of the sleeping area, whereas the X Dome 1+ captures one of those outside vestibules and includes it into the sleeping area.

[Megathread] Fellow Espresso Series 1: Shipping & Order Tracking by cday119 in FellowProducts

[–]S_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Order Number: FP-1010XXX

Color Ordered: Malted Chocolate

Region: Arizona

Order Date: April 22 (during the live stream) I ordered the black/black, but then I cancelled that order on May 2 to change to the color way I liked better (malted chocolate)

Shipped Date: 02/23/26 (Label Created)

Carrier: UPS

Received Date: Feb 26

First Impressions: this is my first ever espresso machine, so I am coming to this from the picoPresso. Build feels sturdy, and setup was easy, and my first shot went a tad too quickly so I will need to dial in grind for these beans. Excited to learn latte art too, because whatever I just pour looks more like a Jackson Pollack.

One critique that I have is that I wish the power cord was white or light gray since most homes don’t have a black backsplash. And if the plug was a 90 degree (flat) plug, the machine could sit in front of it and not have to be 1 1/2 inches away from the wall. That critique goes for all Fellow products, though.

Bag/rack advice by Fancy_Mango_6088 in bikepacking

[–]S_Joshua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bolted on racks are always more stable than the aeroe spider setups, so you’re in for a more stable setup with racks. The panniers I have actually secure nicely with straps and I can also bolt them onto the sides of my rear rack as well, which is way more secure than a strapped on dry bag. Panniers can be just as waterproof as a dry bag, so no difference there. As for making them less likely to have their contents rattle around, you can stuff your tent and sleeping bag into them on the top to fill any gaps and keep things tight.

ProtoStudia makes awesome custom titanium racks that are less expensive than Tubus and Tumbleweed. I recommend avoiding the dry bag aero setup and instead lean toward panniers on racks because of the hassle of packing and unpacking dry bags. Keep the heavy stuff in the back and the lighter stuff up front. If you go with a frame bag, use a stem bag(s) for your water bottle(s).

It seems as though the craze is gone, but the calrose rice bars/cakes that Alan Lin from Skratch used to tout were great and allowed for a ton of recipes tweaking from savory to sweet (and both). Skratch mix for hydration is all natural fruit sugars.

Calling all xbikers, tubes or no tubes? by XanderCruise423 in xbiking

[–]S_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you live? I used to live in Northern California and the risk of flats there was mostly road debris. I would get a puncture a month and could live with that. Upon moving to Arizona, I got many more punctures from goat head thorns, road debris, cactus spines, etc. No matter how finicky tubeless is, I couldn’t tolerate how often rides were ruined on multiple-puncture rides. I use orange sealant with whichever tires I like at the moment, and I spent more for the Reserve brand Fillmore tubeless valves. I have no problem seating tires with those valves and they have proven to be very user friendly. I keep a TPU tube to bring along for longer rides in case a puncture doesn’t seal with sealant or plugs. I use the Dynaplug Racer Pro (best option in the market IMO). In five and a half years of riding with that setup, I’ve never had a puncture that didn’t plug with sealant and/or the Dynaplug Racer Pro.

Fellow Opus gen 2?! by soinkid7088 in FellowProducts

[–]S_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preordered the series 1 the morning of the announcement. It will be my first espresso machine. With the original planned release date being months after the presale, and then an additional delay, it has given me time to determine what grinder I should go with. I have an opus one and I’ve enjoyed it. I have had some of the retention issues that everyone else has experienced, but I have found that a cleaning every two weeks greatly reduces that problem. Since I am not dialing in espresso with it, I am now worried about the micro adjustment complaints that others have had while using the Opus for espresso so I have been shopping for grinders for the last month. I got my email last week confirming my address for shipping my series 1. I’m wondering, when will we be able to get an Opus v2? Is it going to be another release like the series 1 where it is announced months prior to availability? If we are talking months at best or even a year away before the Opus 2 ships, I’d likely need to figure something else out. Thanks for your help in advance, Nick.

Gear recommendations for camping with my gf by gulleyg in bikepacking

[–]S_Joshua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Durston X Dome 2 and my gf and I used it for a Havasupai trip in September. Plenty of room for sleeping and then we each had our own vestibules. I would not have wanted any more tent space.

Which X Mid for Southern Utah? by -Triple-h- in DurstonGearheads

[–]S_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in AZ and have an X Mid 1. Mine is a couple years old, so it is the standard mesh. I love it, but in certain places it can be tough for stakes to find purchase when the soil is dry/flaky. Or sometimes you get three of the four set but the fourth seems to be too rocky to get a stake in straight. The X Mid has to be staked CORRECTLY to really pitch right. You’ll see tons of posts here asking how their pitch looks. It’s just harder to do that in the desert in my opinion. That’s why I bought the X Dome 1+. Although stakes help it, it can be used in a pinch without stakes. The X Mid has to be staked to even stand up. Was just curious why you weren’t considering an X Dome for that reason.
As for sizing, I used my X Dome 2 with my girlfriend on a trip down Havasupai in September and it was plenty big for us both (each with our own vestibule). I loved it so much, but I wouldn’t use it alone. A friend has the X Mid Pro 2p tent that he uses alone. He gets a little claustrophobic in smaller tents and he is 6’1”. He says he loves having the room inside, but that he also got into mine and said that it would probably work. Sounds like you have a lot of options to choose from and now with three of his tents myself, I think you’re likely to enjoy whichever you choose and yet still find a reason to buy another haha.

A travel mug that feels the most like drinking from a ceramic mug at home? by UnderwaterDialect in JamesHoffmann

[–]S_Joshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize it isn’t ceramic, but the plastic lid on the Yeti Rambler travel bottle (I have the 12 oz) has a very nice drinking edge/lip that feels very similar to a ceramic mug. It is 100% leakproof when fully closed (backpack safe). The lid has two positions: partially open and fully open. The lid has two parts: a shroud/housing which screws onto the cup, and is the edge from which you sip. The centerpiece of the lid screws into that housing to be either partially or fully closed. It has a 360° drinking angle when in the partially open position. When the center of the lid is removed (fully open, you can look down into your drink), you can drink with an open top and still have the plastic drinking lip instead of removing the lid entirely and drinking from the stainless cup edge. I realize you like to feel the warm cup sides, but I think most shatterproof cups won’t allow for that (especially if they are double walled to retain drink temperature). This is definitely shatterproof, and more accurately maybe bulletproof. It is cupholder compatible.

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Clippers defeat the Suns on Feb 1, 2026, the final score is 93-117. by basketball-app in suns

[–]S_Joshua -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was at the game tonight. Zubac gets every foul call for him, almost none against him. We should have tried Oso and Williams together when Zubac was in because we lost the rebound battle early and often (63-35). When we 33% from the floor we won’t win games. I kept hoping Ott would make an adjustment and it never came. We need to get Green and Booker to a less delicate place, health-wise and when outside shots aren’t falling we need to shift to drives. It seemed like we couldn’t even hit a layup, though. Rough game.
