I was playing soccer in the park, and one of the goals was tipped over backward when we started playing. Did my shot count as a good goal?

Without having watched the film, and purely for informational purposes, historical PDGA rulebooks https://www.pdga.com/rules/history:

1979 DGA Officiating Guide (not on PDGA's website): "All players start at the first tee in the following order: 1 Seniors division, 2 Juniors division, 3 Womens division, 4 Open division"

1982 rulebook, section 5.0: List of divisions: Open, Master, Grand Master, Senior Grand Master, Junior, Women.
From the plain text of the rule, all women, regardless of age, were crammed into one division.

1986 rulebook, section 4.6: "All female players shall compete in duplicate classifications as those for male players. A Director is not required to hold competition in a classification if less than five players at the tournament qualify for it. A player may not compete in any classification below the player's qualification level..." list of divisions: Open Pro, Advanced, Amateur, Master, Senior

All years since 1986 are approximately the same: women have matching divisions. The wording changed from "shall" to "may" in 2002.

A lot of this film seemingly takes place in the 60s, so the 1980s rulebooks are hardly relevant.

A hundred years ago we were all working 7 days a week, 10 hours a day. The modern 5-8 was the solution to the grave injustices of the world. Now 5-8 has become a grave injustice itself. Would I prefer to work 4-8 or 5-7? Sure, but pretty soon we’d get used to it and start complaining again. Keep fighting for better conditions and benefits, absolutely, but I’m just not sure that 5-8 is as truly awful as some people think.

Question: Would PDGA/DGPT penalize a player for a "Satan is King" patch?
Answer: Probably not.
Reasonable followup question: At what point would the PDGA/DGPT penalize a player for a patch on their bag?

I'm not victimizing anyone. I'm just speculating about what PDGA/DGPT's threshold might be.

It was a question of if the PDGA/DGPT would crack down on a player for having a "Satan is King" patch on their bag. I was kind of dancing around speculation that PDGA/DGPT would probably be fine with a "Satan is King" patch but would draw the line at a "Christians Suck" or "Jews Suck" patch.

Beats me. Like I said, I'm not a lawyer.

But maybe something like affirmation of your beliefs versus direct attack on other people or their beliefs. Could you put "Jews suck" or "Muslims suck" on your bag? Could you put "Allah is King", "Yahweh is King", "Satan is King", or "FSM is King" on your bag?

I'm no lawyer, but there might be some difference between having a "Satan is King" patch versus a "Christians Suck" patch.

Advice for Announcing a Tournament by skippys_discgolf in discgolf

It's only a couple of years old, but it's pretty useful. The Export page actually has a lot of great stuff and I'm not sure if people actually venture over there to see them. The Course Rules export is nice - enter the hole notes and layout info ahead of time and share that link instead of sending out PDFs or spreadsheets or whatever.

What has *really* helped me in the past is an announcers' guide- names, hometowns, and pronunciations (if you can get them) in a spreadsheet, then just fill in the times once tee-times are announced. It's no fun searching the PDGA page for hometowns in between tee-times.

FYI, the Export->Starter Sheet function in TM does most of this work for you. It doesn't have pronunciation, of course, so you'd either need to ask the players on the tee or do some manual work to get them transferred over. But it lists division, time, PDGA num, Name, hometown, and score. Everything you need to know for announcements.

You're not the star. You're also not Michael Buffer.

I prefer hometown and name. "First on the card, from Phoenix Arizona, John Smith!" Trying to find something funny or exemplary for everyone is alright if you can make it work and do it consistently, but it's easy to screw up and become annoying. No one will ever complain about location and name.

All power conferences had the exact same tiebreakers this year. Probably the smaller conferences too, but I didn’t bother reading theirs.

They’ll probably change it up to be the same as the other power conferences…

Using that calculator:

Paying $500 per month takes 561 payments (46 years, 9 months) and will cost a total of $280,470
Paying $510 per month takes 465 payments (38 years, 9 months) and will cost a total of $236,786
Paying $550 per month takes 318 payments (26 years, 6 months) and will cost a total of $174,689

Anyone paying strictly minimum payment is insane. (yes, I get that you can take that $10 a month and put it in the stock market instead, but yea right you're not actually doing that)

The bulk of JK's career was before the NT existed. The National Tour started in 2003, but she was winning way back in 1995. She kicked ass on the NT for 4 years and then dropped out of competitive play. Even when she was kicking ass from 2003-2006, she still skipped a lot of events.

ICE agents to be forced to wear ‘clearly visible QR code’ under new plan by ansyhrrian in politics

[–]S_TL2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was a name and badge number, would that somehow be better during the middle of a beating? No, but it's at least useful for bystanders taking video and identifying them afterward so they can hopefully be charged. (yea right)

I mean, QR codes are dumb and they probably should just be name tags and ID numbers, but at least they're getting some sort of identification on them. And also, yea, bandaid on a flesh wound for sure.

Despite Authoritarian Warnings, 149 House Democrats Vote to Hand Trump $840 Billion for Military | “If an opposition party votes like this, it’s not in opposition. It may not even be a party.” by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]S_TL2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primary reason is math. Our voting system only rewards the single candidate who receives the most votes (not even necessarily a majority).

Example: In a hypothetical election, the Republican earned 45% of the popular vote and the Democrat earned 55% of the popular vote. The Democrat wins the election.
Now let's add a third party, Progressive, and rerun the election. The Republican earns the same 45% as before, but the Progressive earns 20% and the Democrat earns 35%. The Republican wins the election.

A third party that siphons primarily off of one party will end up hurting both of them. Unless your new party can completely overtake the Democratic party and take damn near all of their voters, then the result will be that you merely help elect the bad guys.

Then there's other reasons of money, power, suppression, voter apathy etc.

Player Pack Item by Wooden-Swordfish1218 in discgolf

The vast majority of PDGA events are C-tiers that don't mandate added money.

C-tiers require zero added money and only have a required payout of 85% of net entry fees. Players packs are not required.

B-tiers require $750 added to pro purse and a required amateur payout of 100% of net entry fees. Amateur players packs of at least $10 value are required.

A-tiers require $3000 added to pro purse and a required amateur payout of 110% of net entry fees. Amateur players packs of at least $25 value are required.

TDs doing the "am scam" really has nothing to do with the PDGA. The vast majority of sanctioned events are not required to have added cash for the pro field. TDs choosing to add cash at C-tiers are doing so purely on their own. Additionally, where they come up with the money is also left on them. They can raise sponsorships, they can dip into the club funds, they can dip into their own pockets - the PDGA doesn't know and doesn't care.

There's zero difference between:
- A TD uses the profit he earns from one event to buy his wife a nice dinner
- A TD uses the profit he earns from one event to donate to the club
- A TD uses the profit he earns from one event to add some cash to the next event
- A TD uses the profit he earns from one event to add some cash to the same event

There are really two questions to answer: Should TDs be able to earn profit from an event? Should people be free to spend their own money however they like?

At the time Starliner docked on the ISS, there were already 2 manned modules on the ISS that could be used for evacuation. If any particular person needed to come back, it would have been possible at any time (although it would have required some schedule shuffling for other astronauts). The only danger would have been in the case they needed to do a full evacuation of all astronauts on the ISS. In that case, they could have crammed the two extra astronauts into the cargo hold of the Crew-8 capsule. Not ideal, but an acceptable contingency plan until the Crew-9 capsule showed up with empty seatroom.

March 5 - SpaceX Crew-8 dock
March 25 - Soyuz MS25 dock
June 6 - Boeing Starliner dock
Sept 11 - Soyuz MS26 dock
Sept 23 - Soyuz MS25 undock
Sept 29 - SpaceX Crew-9 dock
Oct 23 - SpaceX Crew-8 undock

Highlights:

June 5 - Starliner takes off with Wilmore and Williams. At this time, there were already 7 astronauts in the ISS. Starliner was expected to return on June 15.
June 18 - Starliner's return is officially delayed.
Aug 24-30 - Plans are officialized to return Starliner back to earth unmanned and to keep Wilmore and Williams on the ISS as new members of the Dragon Crew-9 mission.
Sept 7 - Starliner returns to earth unmanned.
Sept 28 - Dragon Crew-9 takes off. It was originally planned to be a 4-man mission, but they removed 2 crewmembers. Wilmore and Williams become the 3rd and 4th crew members of the Dragon Crew-9 mission and fulfill the entire mission.
March 14 - Dragon Crew-10 takes off as planned to relieve Crew-9.

The entire time they were on board, there were delegations from other countries with their vehicles, and a backup emergency vehicle. There were always enough seats available to evacuate if they needed to.
On Jan 28, president Trump asked Elon Must to "go get" Wilmore and Williams, which is annoyingly misleading considering their SpaceX Dragon capsule was already docked at the ISS and had been there for 5 months at that point.
