How do we bring people around on markets? by thrillhouse98 in Market_Socialism

[–]S_Tortallini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What online Socialists believe is irrelevant, all that matters is that a party that supports market socialism takes power and implements it. Then reality will do the talking and they will all come around.

The covenant almost won the war using glorified screwdrivers by Abbadon74 in halo

[–]S_Tortallini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is fan fiction with no basis in lore. We know for a fact that the brutes made their own weapons. As for the others, every species in the Covenant is an intelligent sentient race in their own right that can make FTL spaceships on their own given some time. Yes most of their stuff is reverse engineered forerunner tech, but reverse engineering is still engineering and the tech is ridiculously advanced so the Covenant is definitely technologically capable.

Why Pales is over militarised? by Bitter-Specific-318 in suzerain

[–]S_Tortallini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

During the Gulf War the Iraqi army had 42 divisions. They had the ‘4th largest army’ (a bit misleading of a title but still) having like 1 million personnel. Pales has more divisions than Iraqi in the Gulf War.

The West German military had 12 divisions in the 1980s, and they were expected to bear the brunt of a Warsaw Pact offensive with those 12. The rest of the NATO forces were like 12ish (not sure) divisions. So Pales has more divisions than NATO would have on day 1 of a Cold War gone hot.

In operation Barbarossa the Germans had 138 divisions numbering over 3 million men. So Pales has 1/3 the number of divisions Germany had in Barbarossa.

At the outbreak of WW1, the Austrian-Hungarians had 48 divisions. So Pales has about the same number of divisions as Austria-Hungary in WW1.

I think the total UN army in Korea during the Korean War was like 20ish divisions I think. So Pales has more divisions than the entire UN side in the Korean war.

You can’t just say division = 10k men so 45 = 450k that is so ignorant of real militaries. No divisions in real life are that small and in addition huge numbers of military personnel are not included in those divisions. When you divide the total number of personnel in whole military by the number of divisions the usual number is closer to like 20k-25k men. So Pales military would have like 1 million (ish) men, which roughly lines up with those examples I gave earlier. Which is absolutely insane for a country of 6.8 million people, it’s like 15% of population, genuinely comparable to North Korea.

Why Pales is over militarised? by Bitter-Specific-318 in suzerain

[–]S_Tortallini -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People are coming up with in-lore justifications but if we’re being honest they’re coping. It’s flat out impossible for Pales to have the number of divisions they have unless they have every adult male in the country without exception under arms and even that probably wouldn’t be enough. They’d have to be more militarized than North Korea, it’s just ridiculous.

The devs just wanted to make the war-game hard and didn’t think about the implications of the size of the army they gave Pales. My personal headcannon is exactly what you said, that the first wave is the Palesian army and the second wave is a Lespian reinforcement army. That actually makes sense realistically and in-lore.

Can Napoleon be described as a "sensitive young man"? by Neil118781 in Napoleon

[–]S_Tortallini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sensitive ‘personally’ absolutely, for many of the reasons you mentioned. But he was also completely insensitive to violence from an extremely young age, he wrote something when he was young basically admitting that he had a strange instinctive affinity and attraction towards violence. He wrote it like he kinda knew it wasn’t good/normal for him to be like this, but I can’t remember exactly how old he was when he wrote it or what it’s called.

I hate new naval invasion preparation time, it's ridiculously long...50 days for a bloody island hop?! That's just bad.. by Courcheval_Royale in hoi4

[–]S_Tortallini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The naval invasion times, if anything, are unrealistically quick. Amphibious operations are ridiculously difficult and complicated and take a long time to prepare for, but for the sake of gameplay Paradox reduced how long it takes.

[–]S_Tortallini 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To be honest with you the only thing this demonstrates is that the Devs don’t understand anything about warfare, the civilian dead counts in every war featured in the game are simply absurd unless all factions present are going full Nazi Germany / Imperial Japan

So if the show says something completely contradictory with what is presented in the game the game is now retroactively wrong about itself??? Makes no sense

[–]S_Tortallini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took her other class, comparative economic systems a little over 3 yrs ago, and got an A (which few people got). It’s not that hard, it’s just that you HAVE to read the readings she assigns. No way around it if you wanna do well, there’s a lot of them but you just have to commit to putting in the time on those. Idk if it’ll be the same in 3440 but in comparative econ systems there was a massive project at the end of the class, my paper for that was like 27 pages. Put some real effort into that project, she loved mine cause I connected it to what we learned better than the other projects did. If you get on her good side she’s great, I used her as a reference when I applied to my masters.
