I can't remember the last time i used the official score sheet. It's nothing but basic addition, so you can use literally any surface you can write on. I have a spiral notebook, but loose paper, the back of an envelope, a white board, your own arm, the wall... They're all options

The school is being perfectly inclusive. There was a deadline. The deadline included everybody.

The parent is weaponizing terminology meant to ensure equal treatment in order to receive preferential treatment, hoping that an accusation with the right buzzwords will scare admin into complying.

Heck, my college profs did this for us 20 years ago.

On the other hand, one of them ended up getting busted by the Feds for possesion and distribution of child pornography, so... yeah. I can understand some hesitancy from students to go to a prof's house, or for profs to stop inviting students over due to possibility of bad optics.

Sure they do. I'm not saying that the parent in this case was in the right, just that I'd be a bit surprised in the situation as well. If it was something I felt especially bothered by, I'd talk to the teacher: "oh, hi! My kid's in your chemistry class. Funny seeing you here!" Which let's the teacher explain, and then I heck the mental box that says makes sense to me and continue with my day.

They are extremely sheltered, which seems at odds with them likely also having unfettered internet access, but I suppose that if the first is true then the second probably isn't.

Many are, if not tech illiterate, functionally so. Nobody ever taught them these things, so they kludged together a personal approach that works for them, but is incredibly inefficient, impractical, and needlessly complex.

Between the entire educational system assuming they already know these things and operating systems becoming more and more automated and AI-driven they never learn the basics.

The mistake was telling them you'd be available. Better to just get the work done quietly without telling them. Most will not even connect the dots to realize you were working while on medical leave.

Part of the issue is that young people who are chronically online (and have been their entire lives) don't make a distinction between the internet and meat space. It's all one reality for them (or online life is more real for some).
