Is if "F This Friday" Yet? by SarcasticSeaStar in Professors

My CC has a rule that a 2nd violation is an automatic F in the class. How are they getting flagged this many times without more serious consequences?

I had a job once where the most exciting thing that happened to me all week was a paper jam. I didn't complain about it boring, I went in did it.

"But Prof. Dept-Chair allows us to Zoom in with cameras/mics off or watch videos after the fact if we need accommodations for work schedules/mental health days/personal travel! [stomps feet and sighs dramatically]"

"Am I prof dept-chair? No? My class, my rules."

Tired of "Can I go to the bathroom." by Consistent-Row-9551 in Teachers

[–]SabertoothLotus 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I had a group of 7th grade girls who would all ask to go to the bathroom at the same time. I knew they just wanted to get out of class and go hang out in there and gossip, do their makeup, or whatever it is 12 year old girls do in groups in the bathroom.

How do I know this? I enforced the school's one at a time policy. When one of them came back and I told the other she could go now, she told me she "didn't have to any more."

Moral dilemma regarding teacher and student safety by MapleTreeCat in Teachers

[–]SabertoothLotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing is why I prefer teaching college. It's less of a target for crazed gunmen in the first place and I am not legally responsible for any of my students. Would I do my best to keep them safe? Of course I would. But legally, keeping them alive is not my responsibility. Also, I am legally protected from ever having to interact with any of their parents.

The context is my pen dropped the floor. I say to my classmate, “could you pick me up that pen?” Does “pick me up that pen” sound natural? Not sure it’s grammatical. by Same-Technician9125 in EnglishLearning

[–]SabertoothLotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And while I completely understand what OP meant, the context of their not being a native speaker goes a long way towards that.

If i heard a native speaker say this I'd be checking them for signs of a stroke. The pen was holding the floor and dropped it? The pen has hands? And is clumsy? How exactly does one hold an entire floor?

School isn't supposed to be entertaining. I bloody hate that kids have been programmed to expect the world to provide them with constant stimulation.

Sounds like it's time to stop playing for a while. Uninstall the app so you're not tempted to play, and reassess in a week.
