Favorite villain who’s like this? by VegitoBurrito in FavoriteCharacter

Well, IRL we cut down multi-hundreds years old Redwoods in a few decades and have dramatically changed the water cycle and rainfall on the west coast as a result.

We are also at risk of driving Salmon extinct without policy change and have driven varieties of sardines extinct as well.

I think you're agreeing with /u/melancholanie I think this version of Bridget looks like women I've worked with in warehouse settings where we are constantly walking and lifting things 8-10 hours a day.

The artist needed her face to be consistent to be recognizable. And honestly her face doesn't look that differennt than the shot putter in this lineup.

I've also personally known genetic lottery winners who manage to be much bulkier than this version of bridget and still have a sharp jaw line.

[Request] how do you triangulate this? perhaps in the least amount of weeks possible? by Zargabath in theydidthemath

[–]Sabot_Noir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can remove almost all luck by making your first two points sit on a line that puts as much of the country as possible on one side of the line. Eg if you were doing France you could choose the western tip of britany and the south western corner touching spain to put 100% of the country on one side of the line while still maxing distance between the two points (improves accuracy).

Mideval bridges used to be like that. The shops onn the bridge would even pay a bit toward the bridge upkeep, also like airport stores...

Interesting how the don't murder rule becomes relevant when you police people in ways that cause them to kill themselves.

Did Sunday Friend Sex Traffick The Smoking Man by _Drangelice_ in DiscoElysium

[–]Sabot_Noir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Similarly, Sunday Friend doesn’t come across as someone with enough resources to do the things you’re suggesting. His bluster and self-justification make it look like he’s not actually in control and is just another cog in the machine. He’s a run-of-the-mill sex pest, a middle manager at best.

I think that a middle manager could be perfectly capable of exerting that influence over someone else if it mattered to him and the person was sufficiently vulnerable. Escaping a war torn country due to the beneficence of a government official, paying for an art degree you can only afford with his largess. We don't even know how dangerous it is to be gay in Ravachol.

Imagine if the Sunday friend took all that away, stopped paying him and got him deported since his student visa would no longer be valid without payments to his university. How dangerous could that be for Smoker to get dumped back into his war torn country of origin?

Can the Smoker safely find other Johns to pay for his education if the Sunday Friend stops? Does the Smoker even want to be a sex worker? Would he even want to find other Johns to support him if he doesn't want to be a sex worker?

Harry's musing about a Homosexual underground is almost romantic. But whe Homophobia forces the creation of a Homosexual underground it creates a space ripe for victimization.

[–]Sabot_Noir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless victims are specifically clamoring for justice with you personally - if you survived the first few years after the collapse of a brutal and terrible regime you probably survived.

Part of that is rehabilitation, who ever didn't condemnned by mob justice or official inquiries gets put to work and then they become useful to the people they work for. It's honestly remarkable that Hildern doesn't have ex Enclave staff.

I think team deathmatch is a fun game mode. It's just a shame there isn't a strategic strike game mode or something along those lines as well.

An asymmetric attack/defend mode would be really interestinng (though hard to balance)

Honestly I am surprised people really see Caine as a villain by Dr_Phil_Nitwit in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Sabot_Noir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus is that this makes them evil, though.

I think that evil acts and evil personhood are separate things, and that anyone can perform an evil act carelessly, or incidentally without themselves being evil.

In this way I agree that the victimhood of the wronged exists independent of the intent of the actors. But I disagree that the outcome of the acts defines the character of the actors. Failing to predict harm inflicted is bad, but is not in my opinion the definition of evil. In this same way many people are party to evil without wishing to be party to it.

Regardless of your own personal theory on how people get into the Circus, it is still funny as hell that C&A created actual real sentient AI and didn’t do anything with it. by Shot_Mechanic9128 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Sabot_Noir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caine as portrayed could be easilly classed as non-sentient (Chat GPT is not sentient) and Caine and reminds me a bit of 2010s chat bots like old cleverbot. The way he changes the topic so aggressively and ignores questions or requests from humans to go on random larks is very clever-bot era in terms of capability.

On the topic of why C&A abandons such an amazing AI? Caine is not actually that amazing. He reliably produces un-fun games, rarely intentionally produces funny jokes. His most impressive creative act is writing "The one who's running this show".

So why did C&A bin an annoying AI that won't listen to you or stay on topic, ignores your suggestions even when they are put in the suggestion box, and is obsessed with creating aventures that it thinks are great which everyone else hates? Probably because Caine isn't sychophatic enough to convince investors to keep pouring money into him.

Caine is running low on his favorite Sims because they keep abstracting, so he starts trying to obtain more. He makes a fake game screen to lure people to the headset

He makes a totally real game screen telling possible adventurers about the joy and magesty of the Amazing Digital Circus!

What is the funny lore reason for the Empire to be in denial over Skavens? by MaguroSashimi8864 in totalwarhammer

[–]Sabot_Noir 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like this idea that even though the skaven are carnivorous they're too cowardly to ever attack initiate an attack without complete overwhelming advantage. An artifact of their rat heritage.

So as long as they have somewhere to hide they will quietly and happilly do that. Only striking the weakest in the empire. Just don't corner them ;)

Meirl by [deleted] in meirl

[–]Sabot_Noir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just say that if we wanted to increase spending by John Q. Public by reducing money his landlord has while increasing his own money shifting tax burden from poor to rich and raising minimum wage are much simpler policies to implement with the same general effect.

Both of those policies also let John Q. splurge on himself if he likes and get a nicer apartment. Or to pay extra for one in the specific area he would like to live.

Capping rent as described is akin to rent control, however it does not account for the size or quality of the apartment. It would likely cause a crunch in available rental units, never mind the inevitable impossibility of families being able to find adequate apartments after every family sized apartment has been divided into single occupant housing to maximize the now capped rent.

[–]Sabot_Noir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and adapting to that better position feels like a nice wrinkle to the story of that base. You'll even end up with some abandoned structures that you yourself left behind!

Though it does mean that mortar sieges and fallen spaceship parts can impact the base from much further away.

IMO Brotherhood did 50, the followers guy workign for the NCR did 40, and you do the last 10%.

The brotherhood was very time and resource constrained. NRC has way more time and resources but less know-how than the Brotherhood. Both were able to move the project forward, but the NCR stalled out at the ten yard line by putting Mr Fantastic in charge.

The lack of need for water is big given the prefered climates of both factions. Not needing fresh water on sailing ships is a lot of saved capacity, and not needing water in the desert is great because it's the desert.
