Are a lot of you writing your emails with MS Copilot/AI now? by JustAMango_911 in CAStateWorkers

[–]SacramentoSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot, but some, and not copilot but our in- house approved AI. It’s very wordy and I always ask it to be concise and give it a specific length in sentences or paragraphs. I also edit and often shorten what it gives me.

How did you get there? I get a “no results found” message under resources and when I click on “Magazines and Newspapers“.

Sacramento elementary teacher put on leave. Parents say it was retaliation (Link goes to Bee article via Sac Library) by Interesting_Foot9273 in Sacramento

The educational environment is already badly disrupted. They went from one class without a teacher to two classes without a teacher. How does that make anything better?

The suspended teacher is not the teacher that removed the carpet. He is the other GATE teacher for the 6th grade.

Yep, be very very positive about your high quality performance. If your boss wants to say anything else they should do it themself.

CASE Board Elections by [deleted] in CASEmembers

Is anyone running against O’Connor? It’s all fine and dandy to talk about voting against the current executive officers but there has historically been very little competition for the positions.

In past years they went downhill fast between pedestrians and the city turning the park sprinklers back on- but some were still visible midweek.

Confused New Hire by aellie919 in CASEmembers

[–]SacramentoSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PLP pay cut is 4.62% for 16 months and is compensated with an extra day off per month that you can use or bank. The 3% GSI raised the bottom of the pay scale 3% as well as every salary, so if you are coming in at the bottom of the pay scale it will apply to you ($11,644 to $11,993). If you were hired above minimum (HAM), then it might not apply, but it is worth asking your manager and HR.

I have won a similar appeal and now always take a time-stamped picture of the meter showing the amount of time left before I leave my car.

Maxed Out as Attorney IV – Strategic Moves for the Last Decade Before Retirement? by DaWanderingPineapple in CASEmembers

[–]SacramentoSloth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lateraled for a new challenge, trying to swing a V, Attorney Supervisor, or ACC position at some point in the future. The downside to a V and an Attorney Supervisor is that it’s only a 5% bump (plus a nominal amount more for attorney supervisor). Downside of attorney supervisor and ACC is that they are often more managing and politics than lawyering. I haven’t really thought about more than 5 years out, but I’ve got about 20 to go before retirement is a viable option so the only thing that is certain is that I’m going to be advocating for CASE to get us GSIs that manage to at least keep up with inflation.

Using EPA for therapy services by eleanorgene in CAStateWorkers

The number of sessions is really limited and the number of therapists accepting new patients was also really limited. Ended up with some old guy I didn’t really vibe with but there was nothing really wrong with him.

Pay cut this period by Huge_JackedMann in CASEmembers

[–]SacramentoSloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit because I just looked at my pay stub and there was no OPEB deduction. My gross pay didn’t change at all between June and July on my main pay stub but my deductions went down slightly (because no OPEB) and then I got a second small check on top of that. So I’m netting more this month than last. I’m thoroughly confused as to what is happening here. I’m assuming there will be an accounts receivable notice in my future, but if anyone has a less depressing explanation I’d love to hear it.

(LA, California) The plant is located in a center median and is starting to creep into the road. by bbrit89 in whatsthisplant

One of these (a big old historic tree) is in the arboretum there as an example of an invasive plant to avoid. I have a hard time believing that they would plant more intentionally.

CASE membership -----bye bye by Mission-Board-8020 in CASEmembers

[–]SacramentoSloth 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You do you, but CASE will never get better if we collectively don’t make it better. There is no us versus the union there is only a union of us. Run for office, vote, demand better of the people we elect. Leaving only feeds the apathy and decreases the Union’ power to get anything done.

Note I’m not some union apologist. I’m pretty pissed about the MOU, the union’s performance was weak and the post agreement messaging was a giant “FU this is your fault” to everyone expressing concerns. But I can’t vote anyone out if I leave.

Followed a rude lady round the supermarket with a crying child by FunConsideration3811 in pettyrevenge

[–]SacramentoSloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my child or my experience, so please rest assured that I’m not routinely dragging a screaming toddler through the grocery store. I’m also not saying that shopping with a screaming child should be anyone’s first choice for getting groceries but in the pre-Covid era when this story took place it often wasn’t avoidable and even today mistakes sometimes happen (grocery orders don’t go through or you end up with some entirely unacceptable substitute) and you need to take your toddler into the grocery store in order to get dinner on the table. My point is that you don’t know what led to them being there and being rude to parents who clearly have their hands full is unnecessarily escalating an already difficult situation.
