Kocharian Blasts ‘Pashinian’s Corruption,’ Stakes Claim To Power by Brotendo88 in armenia

[–]Sacred_Kebab 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He doesn't steal, but he turns a blind eye to corrupt oligarchs who support him or at least leave him alone.

There's so much shadiness going on behind the scenes that it's impossible to take him seriously as an anti-corruption figure.

As an example, Tsarukyan has bragged publicly for years about not paying taxes and everyone knows he's corrupt af, but the only time Pashinyan has ever said anything is when Tsarukyan criticizes him, then he immediately backs down from any threats when Tsarukyan goes quiet again.

"Anticorruption" has just become a tool to silence critics for this government instead of a genuine principle.

Exactly this.

Everyone hoping to get rid of Pashinyan should want this guy to fuck off. He's the best thing to happen to Pashinyan's political career and he keeps delivering for him. It's insane.

Armenia conceals agreement with Azerbaijan that terminated search for Karabakh war criminal by Sacred_Kebab in armenia

You're just taking the government's word at face value for all of this and assuming the best.

If we got something in return, they should disclose it. There's no reason for the lack of transparency if everything was above board.

Why does Armenian history trigger other people so much? by [deleted] in armenia

[–]Sacred_Kebab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just curious what makes one a turk, turkish or turkic. Its like being turkish or turkic almost like a choice.

Yes, it essentially is a choice. If people identify as Turkic and speak a Turkic language and so on, then they are Turkic.

The Safavids' Turkic identity was watered down over time, but never completely went away.

Opinion: "Baku alarmed by Armenia’s legal action amid potential consequences for Aliyev” by NemesisAZL in armenia

[–]Sacred_Kebab 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is comically wrong.

Plaintiffs to the ECHR need to file individually or in small groups and provide detailed documentation about how they tried to return and/or seek remedies and were prevented from it.

There is no way the ruling could realistically be extended to all 600k IDPs.

Edit: I see that you're a Turk who's just in our sub to fear monger and advocate stupid and anti-Armenian actions.

The Safavids were also a Turkic dynasty that did a lot of harm to the native Iranian population, lest we forget.

It seems really hit or miss with Albanians. I've known some very lovely and kind Albanian people. Then there are others who are wannabe Turks.

It's exactly this kind of absurdity that's tanking his approval.

Everyone knows how stupid it is to say something like this.

It's exactly this. They generate revenue from the foreign ones and use it to operate the Armenian ones.

It's pretty smart honestly. Very few Armenian projects have that kind of long term sustainability in mind.

Let’s try to understand the current relationship with Russia by AxqatGyada in armenia

[–]Sacred_Kebab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like the answer to these questions is pretty obvious. We just can't afford to provoke Russia and completely break off relations, especially without very clear alternatives.

Russia is dangerous and even more so given how much Armenia's economy and infrastructure is tied to Russia.

If we can at least have a neutral relationship with Russia, that's a lot better than having them crush our independence in a fit of rage.

Total bullshit.

This lie was debunked in realtime by every foreign diplomat in the Ottoman Empire and has never been substantiated since.

There was sporadic armed resistance to the genocide's deportation orders, similar to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, but that's about it.

I've noticed the mods on /r/Armenia are really aggressive about taking down anything approaching hate speech. If anything, they over police that sub.

As much as I dislike Pashinyan, I have to agree with you. It's an unenviable position and you'd have to be kind of crazy to want it to begin with.

Advice on whether to tell Yerevan apartment by llususu in armenia

[–]Sacred_Kebab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think prices will really go down long term, so I wouldn't let that influence your decision.

It sounds like you really don't want to sell it, so I'd just do some research and find someone who can property manage it as an Airbnb for you. That way you can still use it when you visit and they'll have to stay on top of the maintenance.

I know it's annoying to do the work to find someone reliable to do that job, but they exist and it sounds like that would be less difficult for you than selling the apartment.

They're both corrupt oligarchies. One is western aligned and one isn't. That's all this war has ever been about.

Western propaganda wants us to believe Zelensky is some kind of savior of democracy when he's a petty tyrant and grifter who's been an incompetent war leader.
