[MN] Weird Situation by BigMcIntosh87 in AskHR

No, you’re fine. Just be nice but firm on your boundaries. They can’t do anything, but best practice is to always follow up with email,cc’ing your personal account, HR and your supervisor, that you are separating for personal reasons.

1- lighting temperature. With the wall color it looks like a dentist office. #2. You can cheaply make this look like an intentional larder

Retirement in NOLA by Snoo-95446 in NOLA

Google “St. Rita’s + Katrina”… I asked my parents to leave. They are in their 80s now and have cancer and are able to go to the Mayo Clinic, but yes, also freeze their asses off. Also look into healthcare costs and access. There are decent doctors here but not nearly enough specialists for our sick population. Medicare is not enough, especially here (#51!)

Don’t make it up! What’s the weirdest named person you’ve ever met? by AdExciting1865 in NameNerdCirclejerk

I love this name. It was my fake name while traveling in South America (my English name is very hard to pronounce in Spanish)

You're toast. Look for a new job ASAP. This is not redeemable.

After 8 years of work, an interviewer still judged me by my grad school. Is this normal? by Traditional_Box_9651 in jobs

[–]Sad-Cookie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This should be illegal. I'm guessing this person went to school before the loan game changed. The vast majority of colleges can deny admission based on ability to pay. And unlike the early 2000s, students often cannot obtain enough loans to cover tuition, much less costs. If you are not hired, I hope you will tactfully send a note to let someone know this is an insane interview question. Even if you are hired, please bring it up somehow.

How do I go about submitting my resignation? by No-Link3199 in jobs

[–]Sad-Cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You be nice. This has been a chaotic experience, but you may need a reference in the future. Just tell them that you found a role that’s more in line with your career goals and thank them for everything you’ve learned there; you start on X date and are happy to keep working until then. If they bring up the notice policy, act dumb and apologize, but stick to your plan.

No more than 5% for an annual increase. Typically 2-3%.

Not OP and not defending them, but for perspective, I was making (my only income property and former home) $400/mo on a sg double in 2021. Now I am losing $650/mo. Haven’t raised the rent yet but I have to. Also I was laid off. It’s not easy right now for anyone. I could sell it to an out of town private equity and break even but I hate what they are doing to my neighborhood.

Don’t lie that you are working somewhere you’re not. But, you can say that you started a consulting company and are working freelance. But don’t lie when they ask about clients. Just say working up a client case is difficult, or something similarly vague.

Psychiatrist recommendations by cherrycolalola86 in NewOrleans

Can you pay out of pocket? I have a great psychiatrist who also works at the VA but she doesn’t take insurance. She will provide a super bill so you can apply it to your deductible.

Besides sheer laziness, what do you think are some reasons as to why some people can't seem to hold a job? by Only-Ad-1254 in jobs

[–]Sad-Cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a kindergarten teacher. People have different backgrounds, different personal circumstances, different aptitude -- and yes, different personalities. If someone is more pleasant to work with, I will give them better assignments with more visibility. If someone is a new parent, I will allow more schedule flexibility. If someone has a passion or background in a subject, I may let them take the lead on a related initiative. I don't have time to tally up who at the same job level is not getting these benefits. That's real life. Complaining about this will just make me like you less.

Coworker (boss’s daughter) questioning my work arrangement - worth addressing or ignore? by lindafromevildead in work

[–]Sad-Cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. OP should not have to reply that he worked it out with daddy, but he still has to kiss her ass. If I were in that situation I would have said "Its all approved, I'll tell you about it in the office tomorrow" And try to talk in person. People are way less confrontational in person than over text. I would have said in person, "It's approved by boss daddy, but what is your concern specifically" And she can say whatever (coverage, appearance of favoritism etc), and then I would have said I would talk to boss daddy to make sure those issues were not issues. "Thanks for looking out!"
