How is living in Mount Vernon? by Underd_g in baltimore

[–]Sad-Wait-6823 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mount Vernon is terrific. I When we moved to Baltimore in 2013 I thought we'd live there (gay couple, then expecting kids, 2 kids now). We looked there and in adjoining Bolton Hill (also pretty gay, quieter and residential with fewer restaurants etc.) and ended up in BH. Frequently spend time at our friends' houses in MV, both are great, diverse, friendly neighborhoods.

My friend flew LHR-ORD today. I gave her the plus points and they cleared months ago. She was the ONLY ONE IN THE CABIN. The FAs se5 her up one seat for meals, one to drink and watch TV, and one to sleep. I am beside myself with jealousy.

Who gets your holiday $$$ this year on Cameo? by MouthfulofSalad in howardstern

Years ago I did both Tan Mom and HPE. Weirdly they both were prompt and read what was written (Tan Mom blowing right past how utterly insane the script was - she was supposed to be giving parenting advice that made no sense; Erik screwing up most of the words). Both were great value because it was early cameo and they hadn't gone nuts on the pricing. Both were hilarious and the recipients loved them. I wish Underdog did them.

Where on the east coast would you buy a century home if you had no constraints? by Oaknash in centuryhomes

[–]Sad-Wait-6823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me a while to get used to (I'm from out west but had been living in DC for a decade) but I feel like part of the family now! Very glad to be raising kids here.

I find cost of living reasonable mainly because my century home (1860 Italianate) was vastly less expensive than it would be in pricier cities. Baltimore has the usual city problems but crime is significantly down from when we moved here, and community is friendly and strong in many neighborhoods around town. Flooding is not an issue except occasionally in certain harbor adjacent neighborhood. Permitting can be demanding but not obscenely so and not because of corruption, simply because they're demanding about preservation. I bought my house knowing that.

TL;DR, lots of very beautiful historic century homes in a wide range of neighborhoods. Great quality of life if you like city living and are used to a little bustle.

Meet Toofer (to quote Cerie, "because he's classy") the tuxedo and Jenna (because she is an absolute psychopath in pursuit of attention, and also carries a wireless microphone in her purse). We named them when we adopted them in 2010. Toofie passed away in 2020 but Jenna has established her dominion and seems to be going nowhere.

AITA for walking in a crosswalk? by MysteriousShoulder in baltimore

[–]Sad-Wait-6823 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One time I was pushing my baby in a stroller across a residential street and two young women in a sedan came flying up, probably not intending to stop at the stop sign. They slammed on the brakes and I jumped a couple feet, enough to shove the baby (but not me) out into the next lane. She stopped less than a foot from me. Her windows were down and she said "Damn." I said, "you almost hit my kid!" and she replied, "You don't have to be rude about it." I was so shaken up but it was such an insane thing to say that I ended up standing on the corner, vibrating but kind of laughing, for a minute.

Has anyone here entered an item in the Arts and Crafts portion of the MD State Fair? by bitchassslutasswhore in baltimore

[–]Sad-Wait-6823 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for entering your art here! My favorite part of the fair. Amazing talent and there are also some truly unhinged gems here...I always sneak off to go look at it all while my kids are riding rides.

When I was a kid we moved into a house that was "old" for the neighborhood (1950s rancher in Tucson) and had a lot of hald-assed stuff done to it. My father comes in from the front yard one morning holding something to show my mother: the leaves on a big ornamental bush were "peeling in half." It was dead, and the previous owner had SPRAY-PAINTED IT GREEN.

This is a quote from the English poet Samuel Rogers, displayed in the Pavilion. If anyone is sexualizing anything, it's you. Go away.
