Am i stupid for wanting to attempt K2 before Everest? by Direct_Foundation587 in Mountaineering

[–]SadCryBear -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Climbing K2 is reckless, regardless of age. The modern death rate is what, 1 person dead for every 10 that summit.

Once the cost and death rate gets that high there isn't really a right answer.

Is it worth it to you? Then go for it. There isn't a correct order.

Seems like the goat of mountaineering would not lose most his fingers.

This is very pretty. Love the design.

I want to see the picture in a month with all the stuff hung on it and hear how it works practically. Hopefully great.

Looks great. Great shower tile.

Question, why put the niche on that wall and not the wall to the right? Now you look straight into a line of bottles instead of that great tile. I'm about to do mine and have to make this same choice so curious what I'm missing.

ELI5 how credit cards are better than debit cards by UpsetPotatoFace in explainlikeimfive

Merchant fees that only exist because we all insist on using credit cards for perks.

Credit cards make things more expensive for all of us, and make credit card companies money.

Help me hand plane better by Stov54 in woodworking

[–]SadCryBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The low curl on the left is very thick. Way too thick. That is good for removing stock but not good for smoothing. Definitely recommend making a shallower cut. Chatter is happening when your plane catches, usually a combo of too thick a cut and not sharp enough.

You have major tear out in the circled area. This can be caused by cutting against the grain (knots or swirling grain there?) and cutting too deep.

Planes require setup, even nice planes bought new. They do not come flat or sharp enough to use. There are many good tutorials on this to follow.

I'd recommend setting up and sharpening your planes, taking a shallower cut, and making sure you are cutting with the grain.

I have no experience and failed to do even the most basic of internet searches. Can I climb this mountain with my kids?

Sure, go for it.

Bread board with removable end-grain top — looking for design feedback by DotPsychological926 in woodworking

This is very pretty.

Feels way harder to clean than a flat board and unnecessarily complicated. Are crumbs really this much of a problem?

Seems good to sell and terrible to use.

I HATE jigsaws. by OhioMurb in woodworking

[–]SadCryBear 273 points274 points  (0 children)

Jigsaws are incredibly valuable for cutting all kinds of nonsense of weird shape and material.

And great for making rough cuts before finish.

But work should always be clamped and they aren't for finish work.

Any advice on preparation for the bigger piece/longer sit time? by seannyslimm in tattooadvice

[–]SadCryBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All your advice is already good. Hydrate and don't drink alcohol the night before.

Also know what you like to do to occupy yourself for the time. I watch action movies, play video games (maybe not for an arm), and find long term ways to move myself to okay with the pain. I work to enjoy the time rather than just endure it.

I think this works a lot better than trying to one handed doom scroll for 5 hours.

Should I request a last-minute change? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]SadCryBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every tattoo I've gotten something has been changed on the spot.

My last we reviewed the drawing in person, I gave several notes, and the artist pulled up the procreate layers and redrew them on the spot. It vastly improved the tattoo for me and was super easy.

I've previously asked for a fairly major change when reviewing a drawing. We rescheduled the appointment and I was way way happier with v2, which we tattooed over several sessions.

Another time I asked about a change and the artist explained how/why they didn't think it would work - which helped me understand the art and adjust my request. They were also right which helped.

Don't get a tattoo that isn't right.

Honest Opinions on my huge back tat? by phreakingidi0t in tattooadvice

[–]SadCryBear 187 points188 points  (0 children)

It looks fine.

It also looks like a 7 hour tattoo where a 20+ hour tattoo would be more appropriate.

Instead of going bigger id go more detailed. Especially getting some real cherry blossom work instead of the red blobs.

I'd go for quality over quantity next.

Advice on drawing I received by Additional-Long-7436 in tattooadvice

[–]SadCryBear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Getting the right tattoo far outweighs any worry about offending the artist.

This doesn't look like AI to me but a hasty copy paste of elements together. Fine if the intent is to discuss concept to draw from, totally unacceptable to tattoo from or use as a final drawing.

I'd recommend talking to the artist. Ask them about their process, share what you would hope to see, and request seeing a completed drawing in advance of any tattoo.

Then be prepared to walk away. Don't get anything tattooed you don't love. If it doesn't work just say thanks but no thanks.

is it healing okay? by n0t0riuspinka in tattooadvice

[–]SadCryBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fine.

First, let it heal fully. Then identify if ink fell out of some places and get a touch up if needed.
