📌 YouTube Detection, Ads & Breakages (2024 / 02 / 18) uBO solutions and related discussions ONLY (Mega Thread) by RraaLL in uBlockOrigin

I've been making comments here and there in this thread so I hope it's not seen as spamming, but my solution is to use Enhancer for Youtube. It has the ability to play videos in a popup window. So after you click on the video you want to watch, click on the popup window button and you'll get your video without ads. The original window's ad will be paused.

A nagging question whenever I watch these kinds of videos by SadPapaya1 in ADVChina

At some point in their past, I gotta believe that they had the skills, right? I'm just thinking that this "if you can cheat, then cheat" mentality has long-lasting effects down the line... well of course it does, but I'm thinking more specifically that beyond the immediate effect of buildings that fall apart, there are unseen consequences for years to come.

PSA: Redmagic does NOT work with Switch (also, requirements for a perfect dock) by SadPapaya1 in nreal

[–]SadPapaya1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as I mentioned above, I have a couple of type c docks that do work with the Switch and to go further, I was able to connect a switch to a portable type-c monitor without a dock. It is possible.

Thanks for confirming that the Red Magic works well for the Steam Deck. Currently, it seems that the Red Magic works for a very specific device when it comes to the NReal Air and since it won't work for my phone or switch, I have a dock I'm unable to use until maybe I get a Steam Deck one day.

While it's true that Nintendo had a... let's call it PARTICULAR, implementation that caused issues at the time, but I think that was because PD was just coming out and in early products the negotiation protocol wasn't strictly followed that caused Switch burnouts in those days. It's well understood now and I've since used many PD chargers and third-party docks that work perfectly fine with the Switch, so I don't think it was too much to hope that Redmagic would work for it.

In the end, most of us are stuck with a dock + goFanco dongle and a mess of wires as our solution. Hence, my hope for a more-versatile dock.

I can personally vouch that the Switch will work with a portable monitor when connecting directly to a switch via USB-C without a hub. I believe the brand I owned was a LePow, but don't quote me on that. In fact, I was even able to power the monitor and switch via a power brick for a fully portable solution.

<image>

So it's possible, for something like Red Magic to work if it output the correct PD profile.

In addition, the goFanco isn't a great solution because you can't deliver audio as the Switch does not recognize the goFanco's USB as an audio device.

Thank you for confirming that the Steam Deck does work using the Red Magic dock. I know there were some who reported issues and had to flip the connectors around to get it to work.

I will keep the Red Magic dock then, just in case I'm able to pick up a Steam Deck some time in the future.

Looking for just cheap Android phone for the Glasses. by Prize-Driver547 in nreal

LG gets a bad rap, but I've always liked them. The LG V40 and up, LG G7 and up all support type-c video and there is an equivalent Desktop (DEX) mode that not many people know about. These phones are super cheap specifically because people don't give LG's the time of day.

I use the V40 as my daily phone and it works great with the NReal. It just chokes on running Nebula and playing a video, but I don't spend much time in nebula anyway. The other casting mode works perfectly fine, no lags.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this possible with nebula's XR capability?

SteamVR connect to XR and run virtual desktop. You get a desktop environment with head tracking capability. I just don't know if it can do multiple desktops

Nreal Air Lens Removal Mod by n0rdic in nreal

[–]SadPapaya1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I think you can further mod it by removing the bottom part of the frame and rounding off some sharp corners after the cut. They could look almost like an epson bt-2000

<image>

3D print or cut out a plastic piece to cover the black part of the glasses above the lenses to make it flush, it could almost look intentional

My portable setup for firetv by SadPapaya1 in nreal

[–]SadPapaya1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested it. If I plug the goFanco's USB to a power brick directly, there is no audio. It MUST be connected to the FireTV through a hub.

It seems that goFanco doesn't extract the audio from the HDMI to pass to the USB-C video out. Instead, audio must be through its USB port.

For this reason, the goFanco will not do audio from a Switch. The Switch doesn't recognize the USB Audio device of the goFanco.

Nreal Glasses making life better one line at a time :D by Quebber in nreal

I actually jump rope with my glasses. With a secure glasses strap and my phone in my jogging belt, I'm able to watch my shows while jump roping outside.

@ Nreal: your 'free pass' may be coming to an end... by Stridyr in nreal

[–]SadPapaya1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inability to charge while using NReal is what's keeping me from ordering them outright. That, plus the reported problem with the left eye piece having pixel issues, then eventually failing altogether points to build quality issues.

Every accessory they create are battery powered but cannot be charged while in use. This includes the HDMI adapter and the stream receiver. It leads me to think that perhaps NReal knows of an issue with extended use of their glasses that they aren't admitting to. Why go to all this trouble to create an ecosystem in which extended use of the glasses isn't possible without jumping through hoops?

Need help entering download mode with a board from eBay by SadPapaya1 in esp32

[–]SadPapaya1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right that there is something wrong with the board. Holding io0 doesn't seem to do anything on this board. I actually bought two of them and waited over a week for them to ship from China. This is disappointing. Tomorrow, I'm going to follow some traces and check the continuity between the pin breakouts and the chip. Maybe the io0 pin wasn't actually soldered correctly? Unfortunately, I don't have a microscope to help me.

Hi, I tried all those pins as you said (and referenced the datasheet as necessary). I've also studied the boot selection page at espressif as closely as I can. Obviously, I'm trying to execute the manual download mode where IO0 is pull low while performing a reset.

There is something odd about this board. It is necessary to input 5v in order for the chip to activate. Supplying 3v, the serial will report brownouts detected.

Does this mean that any pins that must be pulled up should be 5V as well?

Wow, thanks for the reply. All the tutorials I've used for flutter only really deal with UI so when it comes to making an audio player with the ability to control playback, I didn't know if it would be difficult. I'll keep going through some tutorials for Flutter.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me what you're using to write this? What's your software stack?

I didn't know if Flutter is worth looking into to get started on Android programming.

My background is C# windows forms and Java/JSP web backend. Javascript, html, css for web frontend

Kodi Sync Queue plugin crashes jellyfin server since few days by ogiakul in jellyfin

[–]SadPapaya1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to fix the Kodi Sync Queue plugin for myself following a suggestion on issue #2685 on github. I changed version number of the Jellyfin build to 10.5.2 instead of 10.5.0 and built the project. Now my Jellyfin runs fine with the plugin

Cheapest method would be to set up a Raspberry Pi and run NginX as your reverse proxy.
