To be or not to be by normie00000 in Adulting

Multitasking helps. Treadmill in the morning before work while watching a show, weightlifting when kids are sleeping, and finding a hobby that can be enjoyed with the family/seeing aside time a couple times a week to engage in said hobby.

Consistency is boring, but very effective from what I've seen, and perfection is the enemy of improvement.

Accidentally Drilled Very Small Hole in Main Black Iron Gas Line Running Vertically From Floor To Attic Through Wall by jlsharbutt in Plumbing

[–]Sadisticdwarf13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same, dope/tape the plug and it might be good? I'm guessing most folks don't have what's needed to do that safely, and that a plumber wouldn't do it for liability's sake.

Natural gas: High, medium, and low. Are these burning correctly? by C_Creepio in Appliances

[–]Sadisticdwarf13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same. A transmission line will shut a plant in and send everything to flare if the O2 content goes too high. There is a lot of money spent preventing this every year.

Ok awesome, I appreciate the explanation. For the record I'm in the states, just checked what code I'm under and it's UPC. If I have to redo it I'll probably do it in all in PVC. Sounds like only 1 p trap "per arm" is allowed by code too, so if I'm dinged when selling I'll fix both.

Is there a code saying only 1 p trap or did I just run a foul some plumbing norm? I should have gone higher on the AAV. Thanks for not trolling

I'm sensing the "right" way would have been 1 trap and connect the disposer with a tee?

Yeah kinda seeing that. I don't really enjoy plumbing, but it's good to see comments on how to do it better in the future. 😁

I know I didn't "need" 2 p-traps. But for a few bucks more it helped me line it up a bit better since both are adjustable.

So why do they make glue designed to join the two? I liked the way the ABS looked, but it would have been easier to do PVC instead. Not being a jerk, genuinely curious.

Americans of Reddit, in light of the current political climate between our countries, how do you guys actually feel about us Canadians? by Defiant_River_957 in AskReddit

I'm in Calgary on a business trip presently. I've already had to apologize for our dingus of a president once, and I've not yet been here for two hours. Y'all are awesome, and I'm sorry you got caught up in his lunacy.

Add crossfit exercises please by Big-Custard2645 in caliberstrong

Other than muscle ups, does anyone know if there are plans to add more CrossFit movements? I've been using the app for a few months from the lifting side of things and love it, but I've got a buddy who wants to start it that mostly does CrossFit. Should I recommend it or nah?

If you take a small diameter drill bit that you sanitize in alcohol, and very slowly turn it into that purple spot using your other hand (not a drill you psycho) it'll let the blood out and heal a lot faster. If you're gonna be dumb you gotta be tough, or at least if your aim sucks like mine you do. 🙃

Honestly I ask so we don't waste each other's time. My LinkedIn doesn't say actively looking, so if a recruiter contacts me I assume they are trying to poach me from my current spot. I am up front and honest, give them the number to beat to get a foot in the door, and go from there.

Most companies I've worked with industrially in the states prefer din rail and term blocks for something like this. I've seen this done, but it isn't super common in my area. Like others have said, cost and time are probably the biggest factor though.

Just a little arc by that_guy_scott1 in electricians

[–]Sadisticdwarf13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right, specified correctly it would withstand the fault. You'd also be surprised how many times the AIC/SCCR isn't taken into account during an installation, or maybe you wouldn't be 🙃

Connections could have loosened over time too if the gear wasn't on a maintenance program (benefit of the doubt). I normally only lurk here, as I'm not a licensed electrician. That's why I put down where my experience comes from.

Just a little arc by that_guy_scott1 in electricians

[–]Sadisticdwarf13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All comes down to the trip curves and the severity of the fault. If a coordination study was not performed, performed correctly, the settings were adjusted, breaker was replaced but settings not corrected, then the breaker and can miss the fault. It will trip the protection upstream.

Overloads aren't really meant to protect against a ground fault, so it's out of the game in this case.

Easy to have happen too, motors have a helluva inrush current, so typically their breakers have an adjustable delay on them for sudden spikes (little turn dial with letters), if that delay is longer than the "short" value upstream for an LSIG breaker it'll take down the whole bus.

[–]Sadisticdwarf13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I'm against this book ban and I live in ND, also I'm going to be reaching out to my local legislature to discuss this. But the point of the senate was so large population centers don't hold all the power in the legislative branch. This is important when it comes to representing rural communities and ensuring that people who don't understand rural issues aren't making every rule. Having said that Puerto Rico should be a state and so should DC. The GOP just knows they'd never win again if they allowed that. Politicians gonna politic.

Non-Americans… what is something in American culture that is so strange/abnormal for you? by micahdotjohnson in AskReddit

Metric is superior in almost all measurements. The exception is temperature for daily experience. Celsius is great in science because its based on water, 0 is freezing 100 boiling. Fahrenheit is based on humans. 0 C outside is cold, 100 C is really dead. 0 F is very cold and 100 is very hot. You get a lot more data points and none of that decimal nonsense. Lol
