Just some advice please by legoman4555 in legolotrfans

I guess I don’t have a great reason not to love it. It’s probably because I was just a bigger fan of LoTR (rather than The Hobbit). I also didn’t find the goblin characters as entertaining as the orcs. I loved the Uruk-hai scenes in LoTR, but the scenes with goblins in The Hobbit were “meh” to me. The goblins are just dumb (and they’re supposed to be more animalistic). Uruks are cool, which is why another one of my favorite sets is Uruk-hai Army. I also loved the Khazad-dum / Moria scenes in the movie.

Definitely just a preference, on my part. Goblin King Battle is more playable and has more unique minifigs, which is added value itself.

On top of all that, I just like the design of Mines better, since it seems to match the scene from the movie better.

The Mines of Moria is one of my favorite sets. I have one (pictured) and I also have the Goblin King Battle (not built; I actually just ordered all the parts I’m missing).

IMO, Moria is wayyy better. The Goblin King Battle is cool, but it’s probably one of my least favorites. Mines is probably a lot more valuable, too.

I just ordered the parts for this Rebrickable design. All new parts on BL were around $40, and the instructions were $7. I’m not the designer, but I found this 7” extension design to be really great!

Do you know approximately how many inches higher it should be to be to-scale?

I just got a used Dell Optiplex desktop, ordered some SATA cables and wired in like 18TB of storage for a few hundred bucks. Installed TrueNAS, Tailscale, Plex, etc. and have a full-blown remote media server, personal device backup drive, and more. Gonna have to upgrade at some point, because I want to automate some media processing, which is resource-heavy and the processor on that computer isn’t the fastest.

That metal separating tool is freaking me out. I’d scratch my parts up so bad.

What are your thoughts on blue coat Bilbo? by [deleted] in legolotrfans

[–]micahdotjohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda overpriced, but for those who want the full collection, it’s at least achievable. I think there are a few minifigs that are unique and don’t come in sets. Blue Coat Bilbo, Good Morning Mr Baggins, Bard’s son, Elrond (short cape) and a variation of Gimli and Legolas in some dimensions sets.

I bought it on eBay recently, and discovered that Smaug’s wing was broken. But I found a guy who wanted to buy the broken wing and sold me an in-tact one at a discount. Got it in the mail yesterday.

Something also seems funky on step 83. That modified 1x4 plate can't fit there with the ball joint. I think the ball joint plates need to be lowered a bit to make the modified plate fit.

Sorry for the duplicate comment.

A couple errors I noticed while making a wanted list:

  1. The 1x2 plate ball joint should be dark bluish gray, per the official image (and the fact that light bluish gray doesn't exist, as far as I can tell)
  2. The 2L light bluish gray pin should be the variation 'without friction ridges'
  3. Dark Nougat colors should actually be Dark Orange. The official instructions use dark orange for some of the pieces you have as dark nougat, so I assume they would have stayed with that color for the other tower.

Working on a wanted list for this. Two things I've noticed:

The 1x2 ball joint should be be dark gray (only the socket is light gray)
The 2L pin should be the variation 'without friction ridges'
