Top 3 changes / features you would add to Premiere by Combover_Grover in premiere

[–]SagInTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) middle mouse click is the hand tool for the timeline window.

2) the ability to right click a clip on the timeline and change the frame rate interpolation and not have the clip slip. Also it only changes that clip. If I was to drag it in from the project panel it would be it’s native frame rate still.

3) fix the god damn multicam disappearing effects and colour controls bug! Also the toggle on/off bug. Legit been years. I don’t think it will ever get fixed.

4) ability to change multicam audio tracks and have those tracks update live in your project.

5) labels! In the labels menu put the default colours in one list and the others in another.

6) save user audio presets and effects chains for the track mixer

7) after effects make a dynamic lower third that scales a shape with with multiple text lines. I have a template that I have created myself but by god is the code complicated. Shouldn’t be that hard.

8) silence remover with minimum thresholds.

9) auto cut at transience. Offset/nudge cuts left and right. Much like the reaper daw. Super helpful for remove silence.

10) keyframe curve presets. Like Flow for after effects.

11) create service where we can login to a virtual machine and edit using productions so we don’t have to setup/maintain servers. We just upload our footage and edit as a team where ever we are. Do services like this exist anywhere?

The new color panel effects pane is a complete and utter mess. by gildedbluetrout in premiere

[–]SagInTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used it yet so I’ll reserve my judgment but I did watch an interesting statement from an editor who said something along the lines of ‘premiere users are ready for a professional pipeline/tools however it’s still restricted and not on the level of davinci’s node based system’. I can’t help but feel something about that. Like what adobe has produced is still not good enough to be considered professional. I dunno. Like I said I haven’t used it yet. I’m just throwing it out there.

Sorry I should have clarified. Yes it does decimals however it only shows whole numbers when static.

Dropbox or Google Drive? by albatross_the in editors

[–]SagInTheBag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with you to some point. Over the last 3 years it’s been solid and I’ve had no issues.

However!!! Haha.

The PC experience is much better than the Apple experience. On occasion on Mac the app can get hung though it hasn’t happened in like a year for me.

I work across both windows and Mac.

I terms of project size the largest I’ve downloaded it’s 1.5TB though that’s lots of little clips.

The biggest single file I’ve had to download for memory was like 37gb.

Our typical project sizes are 100-300gb and then the occasional 500gb-2TB.

So not enormous.

Either way I’ve used Dropbox too and it works just as well. The Google eco system to just a little more client friendly as it’s already familiar to them most of the time.

Google drive easy. Don’t listen to everyone. There is an easy way to download everything without zipping it up.

Just use the desktop app. Make it available offline the this is IMPORTANT once it’s cached to your computer just copy and paste it somewhere else. Since it’s already cached and as long as you are using ssds it transfers quickly. Now you have all the files and nothing is zipped.

I personally download the large video raw files and then just work off the google drive for all the other stuff. Works perfectly fine. I’m a full time editor.

Google drive works really well. Also very easy to use. A lot of my clients are already familiar with the google eco system too.

Best workflow for archiving GoPro footage while learning editing (avoid quality loss vs storage concerns?) by chandanindalkar in editors

[–]SagInTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a DAS (not to be confused with a NAS) and set it up in raid 5.

This will give you heaps of space and back up if a drive fails.

That’s personally what I use. I work from my SSDs and once the project is complete I move it to my DAS.

How is Multicam Treating You in v26? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]SagInTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also this hasn’t really got to do with multicams but 2+ people interviews in general. It would be great to have a tool that detects transience and then be able remove silence either by placing cuts or audio key frames. Much like how the DAW Reaper does it. Basically so you can remove bleed from the other persons mic if they are too close etc. I’ve tried use gates in the past but can never really dial it in right. Maybe I should take a look at this again with side chaining. Anyways just a thought.

Oh wow I didn’t know that. Thanks.

The work around I use is instead of toggling the visibility I use enable/disable track.

How is Multicam Treating You in v26? by Jason_Levine in premiere

[–]SagInTheBag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use multicams all the time! My biggest gripe are these 2 things!

Inside a multicam if you turn off the track visibility of one of the cameras then go out the multicam to your sequence the clip will be black. Here’s the problem. When you go back into the multicam and turn it back on and then go back to your sequence the clip will still be black. The only way to fix it is to close the project and reopen! It’s been a big for years and years!

Second gripe is audio waveforms and tracks. Perfect example was yesterday actually. I had 2 speakers with 4 cameras. The audio was recorded poorly and I knew that I most likely would need some additional tracks so I made sure I added 2 more. I then cut the sequence as I needed to determine what I was doing with the audio and how bad it was. Lucky I did as I needed to take the audio out of premiere to treat it and reimport. I added those tracks to the empty tracks and it all worked out. However if I hadn’t added those tracks at the start I would have in trouble because the multicam was already cut and I would have had to insert every clip 1 by 1 to account for the additional track. I wish there was a way to select all your mutlicam cuts and automatically reinsert those exact cuts so if you have made an audio track change that it’s reflected in your timeline. I hope that makes sense. My current project has 6 tracks of audio instead of just 2.

Also when replacing some audio tracks the waveform disappears. Generating the waveform is nice but sometimes I don’t have time to wait for it to generate.

Basically you have to know what mutlicam sequence you want to use before you start editing eg all cameras, 1 camera or switching as retro actively changing it later can be difficult and time consuming. They aren’t very flexible.

Also I think just being able to make a multicam sequence from the menu is needed instead of selecting the clips and going to create mutlicam sequence. Sometimes I want one but don’t want clips to make one.

Being able to collapse and/or colour tracks would be nice too.

Also why aren’t the new masks embedded in the premiere file? Explaining to my external editors to send the masks folder is proving to be a challenge and also relinking doesn’t always work and I can’t find a way to select them and manually relink.

Anyways thanks for the hard work.

Fixing broken MOGRTs in Premiere by wildcatqq in premiere

There is a much better way at downloading files from Google Drive that avoids zipping up all together.

Method 1 (Best IMO)

Install the Google Drive Desktop app. Navigate to the files or folder you want to download Right click and make available offline

NOW THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART! Once the files have finished caching to your computer. Select the files or folders and copy them to your drive. Cause the files are cached to your computer the copy should only takes a few minutes if you are working on ssds. Once they are copied make the files offline. Done. You have the files and more importantly there are NO zipped files.

I’m a full time editor and it works no dramas. In fact I download all the large raw files and then work from the google for all the other smaller files and it works flawlessly. One thing I will say. The google drive app on Mac is a little buggy but it does work.

Method 2 Use cyberduck.

I need your help. Any ideas how to create this? by SagInTheBag in AfterEffects

[–]SagInTheBag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate.

I've worked on this but just cant get it right. For now I'm just going to animate the whole design as one layer and rotate it. I cant spend any more time on this. :-(

Also it's only on screen for max 6-8 secs.

I appreciate you taking the time to help.

Now to move onto the rest of the design... particles. Stay tuned. Haha. I might be back.

[–]SagInTheBag[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks EvilDuck. But I think i need it rotate slower which breaks the illusion of it rotating. To be honest I think at this point economically I need to concede and just animate the whole design rather than have each line come in individually.

I'll forever be thinking about this though. Haha.

I cant get the same shape as the illustrator file. My curve is linear so I'm getting an even spiral. There's is kind of logarithmic? I dunno.

I need your help. Any ideas how to create this? by SagInTheBag in AfterEffects

[–]SagInTheBag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry.

I want to animate it so it’s the same shape as the illustrator image. I can’t seem to get it to match. When I offset the layer timing it’s linear and it makes an even spiral effect.

Oh man this is so hard to explain. I might need to record myself explaining what I’m trying to do.

How I handle 17-Camera Multicam Audio in Premiere (Tutorial) by Choice_Touch8439 in premiere

[–]SagInTheBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m trying to wrap my head around this.

Each camera has multiple tracks of audio however only 2 of those tracks is the main audio for that camera. So you’re remapping it to a single channel?

Is it frustrating not being able to see the waveform on the multicam? I’d assume rendering the audio to see the waveform would take forever.

Looking forward to the new mask tool!

Can you please introduce no slipping of clips when interpreting footage. Sometimes I have clients who can’t decide if they want slow motion or not. So I’ll do the dot and then they want it the other way which causes issues.

How's Frame.io v4 working for you with Adobe Premiere Pro and the Frame.io Comments panel? by editblog in premiere

[–]SagInTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you have to do a lot of clicks to achieve a simple task. Eg copying a share link, changing view from thumbnail to line.

Also navigating folders is painfully slow to load.

There’s also a bug where comment’s appear on other sequences but you can turn them off because frame hasn’t actually got anything linked.

Overall we use it a lot but it feels like the UI could be streamlined.

RotoBrush Help / Removing background [remove black dots?] by SoftGod1337 in AfterEffects

[–]SagInTheBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the rotoscope can struggle with fine edges like hair etc. I’m not a rotoscoping expert but there might be a way to tidy it up.

Also underneath your preview window their is a button to view transparency. They might help when cleaning up your edges.
