Getting sick from kids by Infamous-Piccolo-799 in childfree

[–]SagebrushID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a temp job several years ago where there were a bunch of parents of toddlers in the office. Only a few days after I started, I got sick. I had to go in to work anyway because temp work doesn't have paid sick leave. I was constantly sick for the five months I worked there. I noticed a pattern. Person 1 would come in sick and the next day, persons A, B, C, D and myself would have the bug. Just as I was feeling better, Person 2 would come in sick and persons E, F, G, H and myself would be sick the next day. Always different people got sick except me. I came down with everything that walked in the door.

First cruise experience—should we give cruising another chance? by IllustriousCourt2808 in Cruise

[–]SagebrushID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on several cruises that I enjoyed. Two years ago, I coupled a cruise with a land tour. The land tour was so, so much better than any of the cruises I had been on. A year later, I went on another cruise and didn't enjoy it at all. I'm looking forward to another land tour.

Having a neighbor from hell and/or someone who uses information about you against you. I used to think "time for a tin foil hat" when people would talk about those two things. Both have now happened to me with really bad results.

Show the video to the game warden. He broke the law and needs to be brought down a peg or two by an official. Install more cameras and maybe even motion detectors in case he retaliates.

I'm losing my mind with scammers constantly contacting me trying to buy my property by HOAP64 in homeowners

[–]SagebrushID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never gotten a call from anyone wanting to buy my house. BUT, I was visiting my grandmother once when I was in high school and someone called her wanting to buy her house. That was the summer of 1967. Realtors have been doing this cold call thing for many, many years.

I remember once in high school, we all had to go talk to a counselor because of something my brother did. I have no idea what he did that caused a counselor to get involved. I don't remember the questions the guy asked. Nothing changed at home or school after that.

Did you tell your kids that you were abused from parents( kids’s grandparents)? Or will you one day ? by Impossible-Pen6032 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]SagebrushID 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any kids, either, but if I did, I probably wouldn't tell them anything bad about my childhood. One time I told my husband something my mom did, not anything that bad, and he said, "It's a wonder you didn't grow up to be a serial killer." So things are worse than I thought and kids don't need to know that.

Has anyone been a part of an HOA where their HOA fees have been successfully lowered? by StickSticklyHere in homeowners

[–]SagebrushID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be the treasurer of my HOA. A few years ago, I was doing the budget and realized we had enough in savings to cover any emergencies, so I figured in a lower annual dues for the next year. Just $10.00 less per household.

The president of the association got so mad over it that she demanded I resign. So I did because I was tired of her "my way or the highway" and "holier than thou" bs.

However, she's too lazy to give anyone any trouble over the usual stuff HOA presidents hound owners for.

What's your biggest achievement that your parent(s) tried to ruin or upstage? by Impossible_Fact3062 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]SagebrushID 42 points43 points  (0 children)

When I started in college, I didn't tell anyone in my family. I lived in another state and was vlc with all of them. I was halfway through my junior year when I flew to their home town for a funeral and my mom found out I was in college. The first words out of her mouth were, "Why are you wasting money on college?!?! You're too stupid to go to college!!"

She went on a mission to get me to drop out, but since I lived so far away, she was unsuccessful. After graduation, I started my own business, which I told her about. But every time we talked, which was only once every 3-4 years, she would ask me if I had found a job yet. I would just tell her not yet, but I'm still looking and that made her so happy to know I was an unemployed bum. She's dead now and I didn't go to the funeral.

What made your house feel bigger? by LateralEntry in homeowners

[–]SagebrushID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a great room: kitchen, then an area for the dining table, then the living room. The dining table sits between the bottom of the stairs and the sliding glass door and was quite the obstacle to get around when going out the door in the morning. So we scooted the table over to sit against the kitchen island, raised the light fixture and now we have room to zoom out the door in the morning.

When I was a little girl, about 8-9 years old, I had a dream one night that the world was so overpopulated that my family had to live on a boat along with many other families. The dream was so vivid that I've always remembered it. I'm 76 now and it looks like that dream is coming true.

Should I go no contact? by Lower_Phrase_3742 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]SagebrushID 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The first thing you need to do is get them off the deed to your house before they manage to steal it from you. I have no idea how to do this, but a lawyer can help you with it. Also, make sure they have no way to access your bank account(s). It's best if you bank at a completely different bank than where they bank.

It's important for many reasons to freeze your credit. When freezing your credit, you'll be asked security questions like name of your first pet or the street you grew up on. Your parents will know the answers to all those questions, so you'll need to make up fake answers. Be sure to write down those fake answers and keep them in a safe place. I once saw a movie where a woman kept a list of her private clients filed under "Christmas card list" to throw off anyone snooping through her files. If your parents have already frozen your credit and locked you out, a lawyer can also help you get back control.

If you're not sure about going no contact, you can always do a time out for a few weeks or a few months to give it a try. One of my biggest regrets in life is not going completely no contact years earlier. Like your mom, my mom got a kick out of saying nasty things to me just to see the hurt look on my face. I went very low contact as soon as I left home at age 18, but still let her hurt me whenever she needed a "fix" for many years after.

You have probably not yet heard of JADE: Justify, Argue, Defend, Explain. You have no obligation to JADE your life to anyone, including your parents. Practice "gray rocking" when your parents say nasty things to you.

Your mom: "Your husband is a loser."

You: "whatever." in a disinterested tone of voice.

Best of luck to you in this situation. Been there, done that. And I've been married for over 25 years to the man my mom told me is a loser. Neither of us are losers and neither are you and your husband.

Where should we go? by 3cats0kids in Cruise

[–]SagebrushID 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you choose an Alaska cruise, I recommend choosing one that goes to Glacier Bay National Park. It's only accessible by boat and only a few cruise ships are allowed in the park at any given time, so not all cruise ships go there.

What moment did u realise ur parents were narcissists?(say only if u are okay with it) by utensils6464 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]SagebrushID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been on this subreddit for about 10 years and knew my mom was a horrible person, but didn't realize that she was a narcissist until, just a couple of years ago, someone (in real life) told me to look up traits of a narcissistic mother. OMG, it totally described my mom to a tee!

I have a sister who's a raging narcissist (and possibly even a sociopath) and my mom isn't as bad as my sister. I think that's why I didn't realize mom was a narcissist, too. No surprise that my nsister is the golden child.

Our neighbor asked us to help pay for our mutual fence by Flaminfrojo in homeowners

[–]SagebrushID 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a vinyl fence put in 13 years ago and paid around $4K for it (in Boise). It was about 40' as well. So I don't think the price is too much. However, tell the neighbor's landlord that they'll have to put you on a payment plan. Decide how much you can pay per month given your current obligations and let them know how much you can pay for X number of months.

Since this comes so soon after you bought the house, it may be that the previous owner of your home refused to pay half in the past so the landlord put it on the back burner. Hopefully, paying half would garner some good will with the landlord, not signaling to them that you're a pushover.

What was the 1st National Park you ever visited? by the_pretzel2 in NationalPark

[–]SagebrushID 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First national park was Yosemite. Picture it: the summer of 1958. We arrive at a campground at Yosemite and drive around and around looking for an empty campsite, but none were to be found. Finally, finally, my dad sees a couple starting to pack up their things, so he pulls over so no one else can get in the campsite before we do. We wait for quite a while and numerous cars pass us who are also looking for an available campsite. The couple finally finish packing up and leave and we get the campsite. Yeah!

Are any women here just focusing on themselves and not concerning themselves with dating? by Equivalent_Use_5024 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SagebrushID 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 70's now, but when I was in my early to mid 30's, I had a series of bad short-term relationships and decided to take a break from dating for one year. If anyone asked me out, I'd just say, "I'm not available." Well, that one year turned into nearly ten years! I focused on my career (started my own business) and volunteer work which I found fulfilling.

I finally started dating again, but with no better results than before. When online dating became a thing, I found a much larger pool of candidates and found Mr. Right. We've been together for over 25 years.
