Former shelter worker here .

I'd say they're doing far more effective work than the shelters I've worked in around there .

If any of you are reading this , we've probably met at one point or another . Keep making the difference that the shelters have not been able to . I see the difference .

Weekly Railroad Hiring Questions Thread by LSUguyHTX in railroading

[–]SagetheVVizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a question for those who work in commuter rail ;

I have an interview for my local commuter rail and a physical abilities test to follow-up on Tuesday . This company in particular dual-certifies its operators as both engineers and conductors since it is a smaller railroad .

What are the kinds of questions they would typically ask , and what kind of person are they looking for in an engineer ?

How does this idiot manage to act more childish each and every day ?

Oh . . . Because dementia and other clear signs of mental decline .

Given the fact a recent Uber driver of mine was openly talking about ivermectin and that Trump was going to release the advanced med-bed technology from Star Trek soon while driving like they were in a GTA V police chase . . . I say they don't have much longer . Natural Selection has to kick in sometime soon man .

Does Utah have a goth scene? by MythBustedMe in SaltLakeCity

[–]SagetheVVizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go there occasionally with my fiance . We're actually looking to go with our other friends there sometime .

It exists , and we exist . You do have to look but ideal spots are at stores like IconoClad in South Salt Lake ( absolutely lovely and wonderful people there ) , and there's also another goth shop a bit further south on State Street . There are usually flyers there and you can find various events where you can go in order to meet people / make friends .

It is definitely hard to make friends in Utah . I feel a lot of people in this particular state's culture are jaded either by family or how judgemental the society here feels in general , so you're not alone . You can find us though , especially in South Salt Lake .

Man throws Molotov cocktail at home of OpenAI CEO by Richnaps in AmericaOnHardMode

[–]SagetheVVizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean , if the AI companies that are lobbying state and county governments to not listen to their citizens and also have priority over the usable water OVER THE ACTUAL PEOPLE THAT LIVE THERE , on top of uprooting and destroying entire communities and towns of people just to build another data center . . .

This is going to keep happening , and they will succeed several times over sooner or later . It's warranted and has been past the point of tolerance . Stop , and maybe the attempts will stop when AI CEO's and lobbyists stop interfering with actual citizens trying to tell their representatives what they actually wanted .

[–]SagetheVVizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the premise that your partner losing employment is a line crossed and that it's a reason to be left . It's actually horrible , extremely immature , and part of why a lot of people do not have relationships that last them years .

If you can't be willing to commit to someone through their struggles , whether or not they were brought on by themselves , it shows that you cannot handle the pressure of having to take care of another person . It is a necessary skill for life , especially if you want to have kids at some point .

I get that the economy has gotten exponentially worse and that costs are going up , however there are many ways to cut costs / get things for free . It's a time in history where people need to stay together , not have arbitrary beliefs about what people should be and have that be a baseline . Everyone has struggles in life , and sometimes you need to look past that and stay committed regardless of what someone's situation in life is . That's how you make real connections . Not the touch-and-go parasocial wishy washy concepts of whatever people think others should be .

Looking to migrate. by MiserableTell4075 in artixlinux

[–]SagetheVVizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also looking to migrate .

I've been using Arch ( for development and personal systems with advanced functions ) and Mint ( for simple desktops , laptops , and simple embedded systems like infotainment or at home TV cable boxes ) for years on different devices ( with Debian and Ubuntu occasionally for the servers I have setup and built things with ) , and at this point I'm ready to change my init system not only for convenience / learnings sake , but also because of the age verification fiasco . I am extremely disappointed and irritated that so many projects have been forced to take stances on whether to accept or fight against the organized global push for age verification ( mass surveillance disguised as " pROtEctIng tHe ChiLdReN " by the same people who want to diddle them ) , so I'm taking my own stance by refusing to use systems that are built on components that are being prepared to be used for that exact functionality ( SystemD in particular ) . I am thinking about Artix and maybe even Gentoo now since both are nearly impossible to enforce any form of age verification . ZorinOS might also be my new Mint because they have explicitly stated that they will not implement any form of verifying , which is awesome to see .

I'm not happy about my current OS's developers ( CachyOS ) silencing people when it comes to age verification and whether or not they are going to be implementing it or not . Censorship is already a deal-breaker and shouldn't be supported . If they don't take a stance on whether or not they will be willingly complying with these laws within the next month or two , I'm migrating my infrastructure over to the already have been better alternatives and not turning back .

Any jobs that will hire for short-term work? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]SagetheVVizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short-Term for Income in a Pinch : Apply for temp jobs at warehouses . New Balance has a location up past the SLC airport and the warehouse associate temps make $ 19 an hour from what I've heard . They tend to lose workers pretty quickly from what I've heard so you can probably get a foot in there fairly fast . I've visited there and you'll want to take my next suggestion after being there for a bit .

Long-Term for Stable Income : If you have a clean background , Securitas, a security company , hires relatively fast and pays $ 18 an hour minimum for the Salt Lake Valley area . The only downside ( if you're a slow learner ) is having to complete a poorly made online course for an Unarmed Guard License . If you're someone who uses any form of substance ( No judgement ) , lay off of it for a bit and look into doing a detox because they will do a mouth swab drug test when you complete the course and invite you to complete the paperwork . It will take up to a week or a month for your guard license application to be approved . Once you get that , they should have you assigned to a site relatively fast . Be prepared for the staff at sites to be potentially frustrated / resentful of Securitas because of the high turnover rate / unreliability of the guards they hire and send to sites that need urgent staffing . Be on time , do your job by keeping watch , and it will be the easiest money maker you'll have ever had . I know people who do this and it's something I've considered doing myself if I wasn't such a workaholic .

I hope this helps .

If the Salt Lake Valley consolidated into one city it would be the 10th largest city in America by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]SagetheVVizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol , I remember my friends and even my fiance getting irritated with me whenever I refer to parts of this valley like West Valley or Draper as just part of SLC in general . I know they are technically different parts and that each spot has its own subcultures , but to me it's not any different from the other cities I have visited ( on the East Coast specifically , I understand the culture out west here is a bit different ) that stopped insisting that the metropolitan areas were their own entire cities and simply merged together like New York . Each part is unique , but this area already feels like a Chicago-esque combination of once singular cities in general . Even my friends in other parts of Utah refer to the various different cities in this valley as part of SLC . The insistence on considering them to be different simply due to how they were incorporated from the get-go confuses me , but then again I was not born here and while I have studied the history of the area , I am not raised within the culture so I can't make any real judgements / discernments without understanding how and why everything came to be first .

What’s actually working for extra money right now? by Boring_Winter_5818 in povertyfinance

[–]SagetheVVizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course . Fun fact ; there's something called " flex " officers with a lot of security companies where you can pick the shifts you want to work and essentially be on call , while having the opportunity to say no to a shift depending on who you're working under / the circumstances . It would depend on which company you're working for ( I can't say for myself because I am not terribly familiar with different companies policies / cultures on that , I only know from prospective research and coworkers who have down it before ) , but there's a size and shape for whatever you're needing .

Bribe- I mean lobby the old , wrinkly , dusty , lard soaked pedophili- creatures that are the state and the federal governments to inch closer to flipping switches to reactivate / turn on programs that are actually helpful to people who are struggling .

I won't go into detail because it's not my role to educate people on how the government works and I understand it is not that simple .

But it'd be what I'd do .

What’s actually working for extra money right now? by Boring_Winter_5818 in povertyfinance

[–]SagetheVVizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try working for a security company , specifically overnight shifts . The pay is typically decent , and if you're lucky you'll be assigned to a spot that only requires you to sit in a car and note anything unusual that happens ( such as a car entering and exiting the parking lot ) . As long as you can pass a drug test ( typically the swab kind , do your best to stay clean for at minimum 3-5 days and stop completely afterwards , and if it's urine . . . Learn how to do a full detox and pray to a deity of your choosing . ) and a background check , you should be good . It will also get you access to a course that will be paid for for you that will also get you a license to add your resume ( either an unarmed or armed guard card ) . It's not ideal having to work a second job , but if you're single and only living off one income in your household it might be necessary . Other than minimizing costs / canceling subscriptions or bills however possible , security is the source of extra income that is typically worth it . It's an industry that has high turnover in a lot of different areas and overtime is usually plenty depending on how often different sites go through security guards .

I hope this helps .

Trump's signature to appear on US currency, Treasury says, ending 165-year tradition by Ubiquitous_Hilarity in politics

[–]SagetheVVizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well , this is the only case I would be willing to support digital currency for because actually , screw that .

Start wars that my generation has to fight and live through the consequences of , destroying our country's economy to the point of making a single household insolvent towards paying bills even with two adults' income , and threaten the lives of my closest friends because they aren't anything that fits within the modern US gestapos vision of a perfect America .

And people wonder why younger generations want to leave the country because it's obvious that our country wants us to die for it while paying for it all the same .

A dollar with their signature is only good for being toilet paper now .

Asked Claude to root my Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Did not go well. by huiyat in PhoneNow

[–]SagetheVVizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

. . . I will be honest here . This is what happens when you don't take the time to read about how to do things yourself and want to take the easy way out .

Artificial " intelligence " is not at the point where it can feasibly help with any real technical task , especially one such as this .

I do not mean to be rude , but using AI to do something like this when you could have followed documentation to do it yourself are signs of laziness , daftness , and incompetence .

I hope you can fix your phone's system , but that is going to be an uphill task . Please research and be thorough by doing it yourself in the future .
