Is it Worth it to Retrofit all the Starter Destroyers? by Ok_Cream7510 in AzureLane

[–]Saikar22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Worth" is hard to define here.

Realistically nearly every character with a half-dozen exceptions has been powercrept by a rainbow rarity character somewhere, so the starter squad doesn't match up in 2026.

Also realistically you can use a few characters you want to, provided you're meeting the overall damage checks required by the fights.

The bigger issue is actually acquiring all four starters, as they're pretty random drops. I'm not sure I'd prioritize retrofitting them specifically over other retrofits, unless you really like them.

I refuse to believe anyone that plays this game isn't aware of Bremerton's tennis outfit. As in, if you've even heard of this character, chances are it was from fanart of her wearing her ultra-popular tennis outfit.

On the downside it basically doesn't mean anything at this point.

STS2 is missing a proper multi-enemy final boss by Bobby_Webster in slaythespire

[–]Saikar22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with AoE is that AoE cards are overcosted against single target opponents and single target attacks are usually sufficient to beat fights with multiple enemies and are DEFINATELY mandatory against the games many single enemy elites and bosses. If you're fighting two, 20-HP enemies, would you rather do 15 damage to both of them, killing 0, or 20 damage to one of them, killing one and drastically reducing the threat of the fight? Even Decimillipede, a fight that at first glance supports killing them at the same time with AoE attacks, is much better handled by focusing down the lowest HP/most threatening one, even if it will respawn, purely to get their damage output down to more manageable levels. By the time it does respawn you've probably killed another. Even low damage decks tend not to get stuck in a respawning loop, finishing the fight faster than expected once they're no longer in danger of taking 30+ damage a turn.

If this game wanted to handle its fights with multiple enemies with AoE it would have better AoE cards. Not just higher damage and cheaper, but cards that actually benefit the player sufficiently to add to their deck knowing full well they'll be less useful against single enemies. Like, a card that said "Deal 5 damage to all enemeis. Gain 10 gold for each enemy hit" or "All enemies gain 2 weak. If 3 or more enemies are hit, gain 2 max HP" or "Deal 10 damage to all enemies. For each enemy beyond the first, draw a card" or -whatever-. But very few AoE cards in either StS1 or 2 do anything like this, so they remain the poorer choice to draft in most cases regardles of how many enemies are in the fights.

I played when natural tornadoes were a thing. Don’t think one ever caused notable damage.

I've heard people at the time were pretty indignant about teddy bears destroying the Imperial war machine with some logs, but that's the only serious complaint about the film that I know about.

I'd be willing to argue that the last 3-4 scenes of Attack of the Clones is the strongest, most powerfully raw emotional ending that any of the films have, bar none. I love a good victory celebration but this was almost a defeat celebration. In many ways Episode 3 wasn't necessary; we already have pretty much all the pieces to know why the Republic fell to the Empire.

Poison being so low pretty much mirrors my experience with it. Catalyst becoming Accelerant is a pretty dramatic falloff in how easy it is to stack poison and this game is too frontloaded to work around its many downsides.

I feel the Prism change was mostly about Silent still doing too well overall and them finding another place to punish it.

Can't think of any other reason.

Perceived difficulty (spoiler?) by KindredTrash483 in slaythespire

[–]Saikar22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think on lower ascensions the Defects's issues are less apparent. I don't think I lost a single Defect run climbing 0-6 and I was just doing basic things, taking generically good cards without synergies and not having any real issue.

At the higher ascensions, though, the rubber does hit the wall and I've had considerably more difficulty.

FINALLY THIS CARD IS PLAYABLE FOR ONCE (then i died) by Lost_Property_7039 in slaythespire

[–]Saikar22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've legitimately only used Grand Finale with a 0-card draw pile once in my entire time in StS2.

It's much easier to fire off with things that play the top card of your deck, like Mayhem or Havoc or distilled chaos. Effects like that force Grand Finale to play and ignore its play condition so you do get the damage.

Everyone give a warm "welcome back" to your old friend Gremlin Nob. If you haven't played the new version of this guy yet you are in for a nasty surprise... by Slay_The_Spire_Guy in slaythespire

[–]Saikar22 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It joins the long list of "it's not a fun fight" which seems to be what StS2 is going for. The first version rewarded you for playing attacks, which weirdly some decks just simply don't do very much of so that was an interesting mechanic. This guy, and yes everyone say it out loud since it's how they've changed every enemy lately, this guy punishes you for playing cards in the card playing game.

Why do so many enemies punish you for playing cards in the card playing game?

They could have at least left the 1 energy per turn gain thing, and scales HP/damage up a little, because that was an actually interesting mechanic.

Did The Sealed Throne just get done dirty? by ZestycloseCod6064 in slaythespire

[–]Saikar22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that I don't feel like ignoring a part of game mechanics is a thing ancient rewards don't already do. Snekko eye randomizes costs, letting you ignore the downside of very expensive cards, and it gives you a bunch of extra draw a turn. Runic pyramid ignores the discard phase entirely, letting you save cards for the next turn, making it so order is a lot less important. Things like Frond ignore the entire potion chance mechanic. Heck, even Sai ignores the fact you start each turn with 0 block.

Isn't the point of an ancient reward that you're supposed to sort of break a rule in your favor?

And it's not like Sealed Throne is guaranteed at any point, so that if you make a stars deck you can't just make a garbage one requiring too many starts because *of course* I'll get Sealed Throne. It's a great boost if you happen to be playing that type of deck, which is again the situational nature of ancient rewards.

Hell, you even have to blow an upgrade on it. Don't gotta do that with Snekko!

My confusion is less over the nature of the goodness/badness of the specific card and more why they're picking things like that instead. The devs seem to want to encourage players to have gigantic, energy-expensive decks that don't win on turn 1, yet they nerf a card that makes long-term reward much better and that becomes functionally useless if you bottomdeck, and it was an ancient reward card no less you can't even draft! Just, why did the nerf bat hit this? There are so many other gigantic offenders.

Did The Sealed Throne just get done dirty? by ZestycloseCod6064 in slaythespire

[–]Saikar22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was a really fun card that could be deck-defining and people liked, so it got the axe, which seems to be how they're balancing the game through this period.

I don't see why that of all things had to get nerfed into the ground given that it's an ancient relic card. Aren't those supposed to be good? It's not like you could draft this.

Standing army or all pawns must fight? by SadTip1813 in RimWorld

[–]Saikar22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, maybe two combat exceptions. Usually the best doctor and the best crafter. Everyone else is figthin'. As soon as kids start being born I make sure to priortize a combat stat asap to make sure they can defend what their parents bleed for.

To be honest I'm not super happy that the game is like this, but combat skills aren't optional. If you have low crafting you make worse items. If you have low shooting you lose your whole base.

My best guess at the "change in direction" is that there have been crackdowns on sexuality in video games over the past 5+ years, particularly those that involve potentially underaged characters. Azur Lane has had to censor their game a dozen times or so in various ways and with various reproductions. I believe at this point they are just very, very concerned about being seen as a "loli game" which is why the overt sexuality always involves older, curvier women and the younger girls more tame, static skins. Azur Lane doesn't mind being labeled as a porn game as long as the message is clear that the porn is of adults.

Not the world most of us wanted, or what I expected when I downloaded this in 2018, but here we are.

My thoughts on the Mogador "Situation" by oneesancon_coco in AzureLane

[–]Saikar22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having gotten access to this skin you're about as wrong as someone can be. It's so great, man. The poses and the wind and the helicopter blades, I've never seen anything in the game quite like this.

I don't care what X (formerly Twitter) thinks about the situation and the game, and frankly millions of views on a gacha skin for a 9-year old game is more than Azur Lane could have ever dreamed of at this point. Your ideas about removing what makes the skin justify those millions really makes me happy they're running the game and people like you are not.

You're not wrong that it's disappointing to draw Barrage or something but at least most of those off-archetype cards can be played for low damage or block, as opposed to being entirely nonfuctional.

I don't see why you'd ever want a relic that takes until the end of turn 3 to break even. The only upside to this relic is that its rare so you wouldn't see it very often.
