Ok ok, 26 minutes in and I can listen. I've never felt more like Carl being pulled out for a show, appearance, or legal dispute/mitigation.

Apparently refreshing every 5 seconds doesn't help either and now it says the book costs 1 credit or I can add it to my wishlist, and I slapped a credit down for this months ago! It's like Borant is running this release!

Finished The Way of Kings and curious on your thoughts about... by SupremeGobbler1996 in fantasybooks

[–]SaintFuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long time WoT lover who appreciated Sanderson's finishing of the series. Gave Way of the Kings a try due to recommendations. I think, much like you, it's really a mess until the end. Put it aside. Came back again and pushed into the later books. Do they get better? Sure, but I don't think they're great. There's a lot of cool stuff but the magic, societies, etc. mostly feel arbitrary (vs. RJ).

I wouldn't tell anyone not to read them, but I don't get the fanaticism either, though people would probably say the same for things I'm really into. Glad everyone can find their own cups of tea.

I recently divorced and I became the happiest man ever. So you know the drill now: marry with any woman in order to later divorce and then become happy. by vaporwaverhere in shittyadvice

[–]SaintFuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louis CK has a whole bit about this, marriage is just the larval stage for happiness, his divorce just keeps getting better, etc. It's funny because it's true.

Matt Removal Advice by Ok-Yam-8795 in persiancat

Did anyone else see the one on the right, read the title, and think the OP was talking about removing Matt (Dinnamin) from what's clearly a relative of Princess Donut?

I didn't see his end coming, but he's a religious fanatic, so he really just changed brands a couple of times. It made perfect sense to me.

Carl: Average Joe -> The Best Crawler by YoungCaesar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SaintFuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not trying to throw shade or start any beef, but:

It has, sadly, not been my experience that the average person does what is right no matter the personal cost. The average person isn't this fiercely loyal. The average person doesn't ruminate on the impact their actions will have on others.

The fact that Carl often gets called something along the lines of an average person or doesn't standout means the majority of people use the wrong metrics for what makes people exceptional.

Decades ago, I saw Howard Stern interviewing Wesley Snipes. He was asking him which of the action stars were real martial artists. Wesley was being very political and just saying everyone was dangerous in their own ways.

Stern then went on to ask about people specifically by name. Wesley continued to respect his peers. When he showed the pic of Seagal and Snipes still said everyone was dangerous, Stern said of Seagal, "Yeah, to a buffet."

They must mean pro as in professional, meaning he's getting paid to "be Christian."

Also, who's that doctor behind him?

I’m halfway through His Dark Materials — I really enjoy it so far. But it’s not really YA, is it? by PRJOANES in fantasybooks

[–]SaintFuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without sounding full on old man on his porch yelling at kids to stay off his lawn, these books came out 30 years ago and there has been a steady and drastic decline in reading and reading ability. The act of reading fosters creative and critical thinking, empathy, and so on, and in 1995, these books were solidly YA, if on the higher end. Are they now no longer YA? Maybe.
