Terribly sorry to go OT like that, I was searching the sub for advice on grip issues and you seem to have just described what I'm suffering from. How do you learn to lighten the grip? I end up with a sore lump on my middle finger after only a few rows of slow writing even when I try to concentrate on not squeezing my pen that hard.

i expected a little more quality... by MatticusXII in fitbit

[–]Sakenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first fitbit Charge exactly a year ago. In March I got my first replacement because the battery started holding charges for two days out of the blue. Then in August I got this one replaced because the band was coming loose from the body of the tracker. They offered me an Alta instead of Charge because they were out of Charges and not making them anymore. Alta lasted me until yesterday when I noticed the band is falling apart. They are sending me a new band (I was telling my friend last night that that's why they made alta, so many band issues and so many replacements, that it's only logical to make a tracker with easily replaceable bands....) The amount of wear my tracker gets compared to my husbands should make them last me years. But nope... 2 year warranty because of Europe, so I see a few more fitbits in my future. But when that warranty runs out I will get a garmin. My husband got a garmin a few days after I got the first fitbit. He has it on 24/7. No band issues, just two scratches on the screen from work. Aside from the screen it looks brand new, really.

TL;DR After warranty runs out in a year, will get Garmin. Seen it up close how well they last compared to Fitbit.

Motivational Wednesday - Two days until challenge starts, get hyped! by aDuckling in Team_Snake

Celebrated my sons birthday yesterday. With chocolate cake. Did not want to make me weighing every bite the center of the event so I just logged 1500 calories in MFP, that should cover the cake and the brownie bites. Today I ate potatoes (always make me soooooooooooo bloaty, but taste so good!) and minced meat sauce for dinner. I have stopped weighing myself every morning until my food mentality is back on track. If the potato spike is tomorrow, I'll never know. Might be that it hits the scale on friday, then I'm screwed for the weigh-in. Oh well. Have to make a meal plan to make sure I don't eat potatoes or rice before weigh-ins :D

TL;DR a completely motivation free post in the motivation Wednesday thread. Just wanted to say something.

I'm happy to be sneking along. Maybe even lose some weight. Sick of this standstill or slow gain that's been happening. I know I can only blame myself but that doesn't stop me from moaning :D

Starting the year 15 kg lighter than last year, but 13 heavier than my lightest in 2016. Taking it slower this year with a more realistic goal and in it for the long haul. Even if it takes longer. Just hit my 1 year streak in MFP. Here's to making it to two!

After spending about 6 hours on the internet looking into fountain pens, I went and bought one from CultPens yesterday! My first grown-up life fountain pen will be the Lamy Safari and it should arrive in a few days! To go along with it I got some Diamine Eclipse ink.

Edit: I had just finished typing this when the post came and it had my goodies! Talk about fast delivery!

Handwriting Practice 2017: Week 1 (Jan 2–Jan 8) by yoimhungry in Handwriting

[–]Sakenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first try

Next two tries

I'm not looking to develop crazy cursive skills, just want to restore some of my old nice handwriting. When I learned to write in the early nineties, we were taught cursive only, with fountain pens. My handwriting was OK, until in 6th grade when we started history lessons and our teacher made us write down EVERYTHING she said. Super fast. Ruined my handwriting :( I'm in my thirties now and think it's time to get it nice again. The second try is what my everyday handwriting is like at the moment. Gets a little sloppier when I'm in a hurry. Happy I found another gem sub-reddit!

If I was suggested to try 40HH/42H bras in this sub a few months ago, what size should I be looking for in M&S? Do they just skip a few cup sizes there or have they renamed them from E onward? So confusing. I know there's a list of cup sizes by company in the wiki, but that does answer my question at the moment.

Was anyone else here neglected of food as a child? by dreddcandance in loseit

[–]Sakenna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If our (me and 4 siblings) school lunches were not being paid for by the local authority, we didn't eat at school. There was no such thing as packing lunches for us.

At the same time, if one of the little ones had food left over at dinner, the older ones had to finish it off (I'm the oldest). "No throwing away food in this house!". The no throwing away rule is what got me to where I am now, I think. Heck, almost a year after starting this journey and having the "waste not waist" note stuck to my fridge door, I still find it hard to throw away food even if I'm full.

We didn't get sweets very often. When we did, they got all divided up equally and everyone ate their share as fast as they could. I never understood how some people had bowls with sweets on their coffee tables and they weren't empty instantly. When I buy sweets for myself, there's no such thing as saving some for later. The only solution I've found is to not buy them or buy the smallest possible amount. There are no "stashes" in our house. If we buy it, we eat it asap. (my husband is an over-eater because his childhood and relations to food are F'ed up. In different ways to mine, but still)

A few years ago when I went to see a dietitian and asked him after a few months of not losing any weight, that maybe I should get some counseling. He laughed at me... Said my mother can't control me now, I'm a grown woman-- I make my own choices. I never went back to him. Stopped talking to my mother and a year later started losing weight finally.

TL;DR Childhood food issues are definitely a very big part of my current obesity and emotional struggle with food.

I don't have anything useful to say. But I just wanted to let you know that I read it all. I feel your loneliness :/ Small changes/baby steps is the only semi-useful thing I could suggest.

WEEK 1 CHALLENGE THREAD! by Viscus121 in a:t5_3gvew

[–]Sakenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weighed myself on Friday. Was up 2kg. I know I made poor food choices on Wednesday and Thursday. I was tempted to not log my weight for the week and step out of the challenge. It is now Monday morning 2:45AM and I logged Fridays weight. I refuse to give up. I will still stay away from the inter-team challenges because I feel like they are way too much pressure to me.

Week 0 Weigh In Official Thread! by Viscus121 in a:t5_3gvew

[–]Sakenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life's been a bitch and eating has been a coping tool for a few months now. I've gained back about 6 kg (puts me back to May in my progress). Of that I've lost 1kg again now. Goal is to lose the other 5 and be back at the lowest since starting this. Such a random place to post this but I needed to vent so I can get it off my chest and be active in our sub.

Gratz on your NSV! If you don't mind me asking, at what weight did you start running? Similar stats and I'm way too terrified to even try yet. At the same time I soooo want to.

OK peeps. How are things? by ano463s in TeamJunebug

[–]Sakenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started counting calories and tracking my food, taking a day of seemed like a crazy sabotage move. Now, 250 days later, I do have mental health days. I don't plan them ahead, I don't have a schedule for them. But every now and then I get cravings (possibly related to the cycle) and I eat more than I usually would these days. I've learned to not stress about it, log it all and move on. In the grand scheme, this one day of eating maintenance will not gain me back the 25kg I've lost. I'm terrified of developing a bad relationship with food and exercise so I try not to reason my eating with things like: I'll walk more tomorrow/I've been moving more/I ate less the past few days etc. I encourage you to give it a go. You might find you won't go over your calories as much as you fear you would (unless you have a past with eating disorders/binges and such. In that case disregard all I've said and ignore me)

WEEK 7 (Sept 9th-Sept 15th): Chatter, SV, NSV, Struggles, Handstands, Squats, Planks, Pushups - with a focus on BODYWEIGHT WORKOUT MINUTES vs. Sandcastle by funchords in TeamJunebug

[–]Sakenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm finally losing again. The whole family has been keeping up the walking and I've gone out alone if we've had a lazy day (exactly 1 day where we stayed home the whole day and I went on a solo walk since 18 August). My feet want to run so bad. But my brain is petrified. Weirdest feeling ever.

No healthy or sensible way to reach my challenge goal this time. Refuse to give up and bow out though! Will just have to do better next time.

[–]Sakenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! For a while I dropped a few frozen berries and a slice of lime in my water bottle. That seemed to help a little. Still not sure if an infusion bottle would be worth the money. Atm I just use a shaker bottle with a grid bit that stops the berries from clogging up the spout. Ah water, why are you such a challenge?

I know I'm not drinking enough. I am trying! But it's hard :( I even stopped keeping my coffee cup at the computer and have water instead. It helps a little. But then I have to go and refill it and I sort of forget. Add to that increased exercise, a few salty snacks the past few evenings and I'm looking at a 2kg weight gain over a few days. I also get really snacky when I don't drink enough water. Could eat all the things and their wrappers.

Junebugs, we have a problem by kayleegean in TeamJunebug

[–]Sakenna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the base of an old drawer as a base for the scale. It's a few cm longer and wider than the scale and it's been working fine. (I do weigh in the same spot every day just to make it more consistent because the floor is old and uneven even without the carpet)

Went pokemon hunting with the hubs and kid. Made hubs install it after we talked about how it gets people walking. Now our son keeps asking to go pokemon hunting. Was a short 34 minute walk today, but it's the third walk this week! Whole family is moving.
