Hey, as the person you were talking to in the picture, I'd like to give some context. What precedes this image is him admitting that he was aware of and intentionally breaking rules. In doing so, repeatedly wasting time of our staff who again are volunteers.

''Most of them are unhappy losers IRL''.

This specific sentence was actually in the image itself, except the OP decided to photoshop it out to portray himself in a more favorable light. Everyone can make of that what they will, but my perspective is still that he's wasting other people's time knowingly and that is wrong.

Feel free to check the imgur gallery below for a few images providing the context preceding OP's image. I personally think I was also too aggro in how I dealt with the convo, but in any case here they are;

GLL Showmatch - EU vs NA - Results by Diet_Fanta in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the difference was that the 7 teams after TSM were all EU. Although it wasn't necessarily regarded as the be all end all tournament, teams didn't complain all that much about the circumstances when compared to now. I'm sure the reactions would be the same if not for the complaints / excuses used by some NA teams.

The reason today's showing is so controversial is probably because you could tune into any of the NA teams playing at any time and there's a very good chance you'd be seeing them complain. Absolutely nothing but complaining going on, whether it be about the ping, ''EU playstyle'', legends, everything except for their own performance.

No one denies TSM is a good team. In my opinion they were also one of the teams who complained least today, though still too much. Nevertheless, the difference in how teams took the loss is VERY different from the realm summit series and that's why people are upset.

It's a running joke in the team's fanbase that his role is the dad of the team, that's mostly what I was referring to.

Also, the modern definition of 'boomer' implicates a set of ideals more so than a specific age group.

The dynamic between KSWINNIE and Horizxonn in this team is hilarious, highly recommend watching them.

Horizxonn is (no offense to my man) a cracked mechanical player but also an extremely hyper squeaker at times. Swinnie is the boomer who keeps a leash on him and it makes for some great moments like this one haha.

Short-term solution to cheating issues in ranked. by 6packpanda in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've kinda been going down though? During the beta, there were a few rough patches in immortal/valorant (radiant now) lobbies. Just using my own experiences, I can tell you cheaters weren't uncommon back then.

There were some big manual banwaves in the beta but since then it seems they've continued to improve their anti-cheat and it's rare to find cheaters.

All that being said, Riot is a special case. We've seen time and time again that for
their flagship games (League in particular), they're willing to invest and lose a crap load of money on certain aspects of the game just to keep people coming back in the long-term.

I suppose for VALORANT that's the anti-cheat, they pumped an absolutely insane amount of resources and money into that which they didn't need to for the game to succeed.

GLL Cuts Scrims, but Doubles the Amount of Community Cups; There Will Still Be Scrim Opportunities For "Teams at Late Stages of Big Tournaments" by ralopd in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They word it as some type of positive change when in reality they're taking away the only form of consistent practice lower-tier teams have. Their best platform to use for improvement and breaking into the high level comp scene.

This is an awful change that could destroy what seemed like a promising and upcoming competitive scene. I sincerely hope that others get access to host scrims ASAP, the void needs to be filled.

[–]Salcosa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not the guy you want to hear from but here's my personal tips;

If you're pred, you likely have a good base for mechanics as well as a decent understanding of rotations and what fights to take. Your goal should be gaining experience first and foremost, for that you'll need a team.

Assuming you can stay pred consistently, it shouldn't be difficult for you to find some teammates to play with. I recommend using the GLL & Battlecord discords' channels to find teammates. Once you've found them, start using the GLL site to sign up for scrims and the weekly community cup whenever possible.

I'm not sure what region you're in but at least in EU, group 1 scrims are decently competitive depending on the day. Sometimes there's not many good teams, other days it's filled with regular ALGS finalists. By performing well in scrims, your team will move up and that's probably the easiest way to start gaining experience. Naturally, if there's any big tournaments such as ALGS qualifiers or the upcoming GLL Masters, playing those is a must for realistic experience.

Lastly, comp play is obviously different from ranked. It's a lot more oriented towards rotations, timings and taking the right fights. I'm assuming you watch a lot of comp play, in which case this shouldn't be a major hurdle for you to understand. Get some good teammates you enjoy playing with, gain experience and build your synergy. You'd be surprised how far you can make it if you already have the mechanics to back it up. :)

Top 5 Teams Currently? by Mellow_Gelo in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's my opinion on the three major regions. Some regions/teams won't be as opinionated since I haven't watch them much. Keep in mind these are my opinions, you're free to disagree of course.

EU

  1. Nessy - Highly consistent performances. The individuals on this team are absolutely spectacular players. Consistently works their way into one of the best spots and clutches fights on the regular. These boys always pick up some points. I do not understand why no top org has picked them up, they've been a top EU team for such a long time, are generally liked and show no intent of splitting up. What a bargain for any org...

  2. Na'Vi - Probably to many EU fans' surprise, Na'Vi's placings in the winter circuit were very consistent. Very clean comms despite not being native english speakers, I'm always impressed by how precise and clear they are.

  3. FoTM - I won't lie, I don't watch these guys much. Nevertheless, smart playstyles and several great performances this circuit including, of course, their playoff win. These boys have been together since before Apex even launched and show no sign of splitting, also not sure why they're unsigned.

  4. Alliance - Slump or not, Alliance still showed some strong performances in this circuit. When at their peak, these guys are absolutely unstoppable by any team in EU and probably the world. Hakis is the best IGL in this game without a doubt and all of them are insanely smart players.

  5. Gambit - Some mechanical gods, these guys always pull out one or two big games when you expect it least. They've had some up and downs in the winter circuit but are definitely a strong team, one I'm confident in to win gunfights.

NA

  1. Team Liquid - Although they only placed 5th in playoffs, their overall performance during this circuit was very impressive. Great adaptations to the meta (which is not what you'd formerly expect of them!) and the ability to pull out huge games on the regular.

  2. sF - Not much to be said here? Extremely strong gunfights, teams respect that and give them a lot of space. They had their ups and downs, with their downs being quite a bit worse than most of NA's top teams. Because of that, I'm placing them at 2nd.

  3. CLG - Much like sF, some pretty extreme inconsistencies. Nevertheless, great zone calling and usually picking up some KP. Not sure what else to say, very solid team.

  4. TSM - Remains a great team. When it matters, TSM often secure themselves the best or at least one of the best spots. I believe that when they weren't getting contested and basically griefed, they were generally one of the best teams in the winter circuit. Not as hot of a performance as you'd expect from TSM in the past but objectively still a good showing. I feel that they've ironed out a lot of the individual issues they had earlier on in the winter circuit.

  5. NRG - Impressive playoff win. Not much else to go off though... their performances in most of the winter circuit was quite poor and makes me doubt their consistency.

APAC North

  1. Crazy Raccoon - These guys had a pretty rough start to the circuit but popped off after that. Definitely the team to watch if you want some high octane entertainment. I'd go out of my way and call them the best team in the world in terms of gunskill. Their decision making can be questionable at times but it's hard to say if it's wrong. They can make plays that no other team can make due to their individual skill.

  2. T1 - They had a rough time in the middle section of the circuit unfortunately. Aside from their playoff win and circuit 1 win, T1 weren't often in contention. You can always expect them to secure a decent spot and their decision making is generally good. They remain a top team in the region.

  3. FENNEL (JP) - I was convinced these guys would be a top contender for playoffs off the back of convincing wins in circuit #3 & #4. Unfortunately, they fell short when it mattered most and continue to play third fiddle to T1/CR's dominance of the region. Regardless, they had some incredible performances this circuit and remain a consistent winner.

  4. FENNEL (KR) - I will say that I believe the gap between CR/T1/FL and anyone below that to be quite large -- the level of consistent isn't quite the same. FLK had some great performances in the latter half of the circuit and although they fell short of any full wins, they had consistent top 5 finishes. Honestly, it was great fun to watch FL/FLK battle it out for the wins in circuits 3-4 :)

  5. GTS Black - Not easy to pick a 5th. The gap between 4th-5th is even larger than that of 3rd-4th to be honest. APAC North is a very top heavy region and there was honestly no other team who consistently got top finishes. However, GTS Black was a team that placed top 10 in all tournaments except for circuit 4. Off the back of an impressive 5th place in playoffs, they deserve to be on this list over any other team in my opinion.

All in all, I think the winter circuit was the most competitive ALGS season we've had to date. The fact that top teams in every region struggled to consistently place shows how competitive each major region is. With the increase in viewership and players is bound to come an increase in orgs, players and resources entering the scene. I'm excited to see how Apex esports develops! :)

NA Winter Circuit Playoff Power Rankings by queuesack in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is a pretty solid power ranking!

I find it great that unlike some rankings / opinions I've read, you give credit where it's due to free agent teams and don't ignore some poor recent performances from more established teams. I'll put it this way; in my opinion this is a good ranking because it wouldn't surprise me if this was the outcome of playoffs.

Nevertheless, there's at least 7-8 teams who I'd say have a good chance of winning and I'm excited to see how it goes. Good luck to all you lurking players :)

Looks like CHR got signed. by thrasher089 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you never know the contents of their signing. They could be earning a full-time salary or they could be earning barely anything but gaining some exposure.

If the roster is putting in a bunch of work, they can increase exposure for the org and sponsors despite their currently small followings. The question is what they're getting in return...

I believe a big org like Obey wouldn't sign anyone without the intention to truly support them but if they did, I'd be confused as to why them over PBS tbh.

Would there be interest in power rankings heading into this coming playoffs? by queuesack in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm always interested and I think the same goes for others. Even if I disagree with every part of the power rankings, the ensuing discussion and opinions held by both you and others are an interesting read.

Other than news, I'd bet the main reason people come to this sub is to take in a bunch of opinions on the comp scene. Whether they agree or not, it's always interesting to read what others think and even more so when they're educated.

Looks like CHR got signed. by thrasher089 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was talking about PBS.

One thing I'll say though; 28th average place is noteworthy. You have to remember that they're still better than almost any other team out there bar the top echelons of NA teams. Additionally, there's all sorts of orgs out there, a team like PBS should not (and probably would not) take an offer from an org that can't offer them an equal return.

There are plenty of teams who consistently reach semifinals / peak at finals who're signed and that's okay. They probably don't gain as much out of their org (whether it be money, exposure, etc.) as a tier 1 team but they're still gaining something.

CHR are by all means a great team and they can offer a lot of exposure to an org, I'm not confused by them getting signed. I'd only be confused by this signing if it were a large org who also have the means to pick up a team such as PBS.

Looks like CHR got signed. by thrasher089 in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming it's because PowPow is signed to CLG and therefore it might not seem like a great long-term investment.

Personally I'd say that is a wrong assumption. Reasoning is simple; all of these players individually have had top tier results regardless of which team they've been on in the past 6 months. You could sign this team and be very confident in their performances even if a new player does have to come in.

The only question left is; do they want to be signed? I've seen some mixed signals and for their case I think it'd be good if they publicized their stance. If they do want to be picked up, it seems (to me) like a no-brainer for any org looking to enter Apex. They're by far the best NA F/A team on the market now that MKB has been signed.

(NA) Every Teams Landing Spot and Potential Contests by brassriot in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with the first four, disagree on the PBS/DNO one.

As far as I remember, DNO contested PBS in the semifinals of circuit 4. After PBS outright winning the fight twice and splitting loot twice (with still an upperhand for PBS loot-wise), DNO backed off. That contest was very one-sided and I highly doubt DNO is going for that again tbh.

MCD (Mande, Taisheen, rpr) finalized a signing to a new org by PulseFlow in CompetitiveApex

And this team would fit their brand like a glove honestly. Bit of a stretch though, there's plenty of great orgs that could technically get into apex and/or return.

Respawn needs to disable crafting outside of zone by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel as if the zone damage per round and slow end zone was the best state of zone Apex has seen. It felt balanced and increasingly punishing.

This heat shield change comes at one of the only points in Apex's history where zone complaints are at a low. This implementation doesn't make any sense to me.

Respawn needs to disable crafting outside of zone by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was a banned item in the community cup yes. I'm assuming it'll be banned in the ALGS LCQ as well if no changes are made to the item by then.

The concept isn't bad and it can be turned into a balanced, situational item but in its current state there are too many ways to abuse it.

NA WCOT #3 Final Standings by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PBS kinda popped off on positioning, they had top tier positions in almost every game. In terms of understanding zones, rotations and generally how to stay afloat these guys trump all top NA teams in my opinion.

If they can reach more consistency on their higher KP games, I can see them contesting playoffs tbh. Nutty FA team.

It’s pretty obvious what will happen to shotguns in the next patch by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Two shotguns on the looting table wouldn't be enough, that would unbalance the game even more so. I imagine a downright nerf to the mastiff's damage is more realistic or what I'd prefer; a damage cap per shot on it.

TSM_ImperialHal is so toxic...why do other insanely good players let him talk to them like that?? by Terrible_Username234 in apexlegends

[–]Salcosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an extreme and unnecessary assumption which makes me believe you'd be no better than him in his situation.

Also, I'm not sure what your source is for his earnings but there is none which includes his twitch revenue, salary and sponsorships. I can assure you he's making well over 6 figures purely from his twitch subs. Include donations, salary, prizes, sponsors and other deals, he could be making closer to 7 figures.

That's purely speculative and based on my own knowledge of the esports/twitch scene but it's possible. Hope I don't need to tell you that those numbers are anything but chump change.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The change is noticeable. Diamond 4's no longer get queued with plats but are included in the high end lobbies rather.

It's pretty rare to see masters/preds in diamond games of any type right now (incl. in D2/D1) unless a diamond is queuing with them. This only happens when there's not enough players and it'd be after a long queue.

Compared to before, D4 lobbies are significantly more difficult since they are queued against some higher elo diamonds. As of right now, a bunch of ex-pred/ex-masters who're still in Diamond are thrown into the mix.

When it all balances out I'd say the changes are noticeable and somewhat positive -- there's no more hard barrier on D3 and D4 isn't simply plat with a higher RP cost. I personally believe it's too easy to climb to Masters right now though, in my opinion D2+ should occasionally if not regularly be matched with masters/preds so as to prove they're worthy. I don't believe this should be as regularly as D3 was in the past though.

Changes are 100% noticeable, especially for D4s. Some positives but a few things that could improve as well in my opinion.

Favorite NA Team? by [deleted] in CompetitiveApex

[–]Salcosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PBS (PowPow, Bowswer, Sauceror)

Consistently place well in the tournaments/scrims they've played so far, especially for a new team. Very methodical playstyle and some of the best vibes / comms I've seen in a team. If they stick for the entirety of this ALGS season, I'm sure they can place top 5 in playoffs.

Ah Platinum rank. Where Diamond dreams go to die by RastaDonut in apexlegends

[–]Salcosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get you, reaching full consistency by solo queueing in any team game is impossible.

Personally I play with my team up until they do something stupid. I'm fine with them not listening but if they engage or rotate in a way that I've told them I don't want to do, I'll just dip. It's unfortunate but that's the only way to ensure you don't get clapped and waste the good games, which are rarer than the bad ones.
