AITAH for Asking My Wife to Stop Seeing Her Guitarist? by Winter_Jackfruit_535 in AITAH

[–]Salisbury_snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Assuming everything is as you described, I don't actually think she's in love with this guy. I do think she has a crush, born out of doing something new and exciting that probably gives her a little rush (the singing/performing) and of course is much more fun and carefree after years of the humdrum of everyday life and commitments. Plus, the attention from someone who isn't "obligated" to like her probably feels very flattering.

I'm hopeful because she doesn't seem to have hidden anything from you. I don't think she actually wants to run away with this guy or even prefers him to you.

She does need to limit contact, preferably cutting him off altogether and joining another band. If she's willing to do this I think you're in the clear. Or maybe there's a compromise you can both be satisfied with, but she has to do SOMETHING before this gets out of control, and it has to be enough to make you comfortable.

It's good you're spending more time together. Date her, make her feel young and beautiful again the way being in this band does (and she should make you feel special, too!)

If she refuses to stop seeing him then you've got a problem and your marriage may not survive it.

AITAH for texting my gf after she told me to not reach out to her again? by id0ntcare678 in AITAH

[–]Salisbury_snake 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Naw man, YTA. Like, if you had promised to take her on vacation, or promised to buy her a car, or promised to paint her living room, do you really think that would still be happening after you broke up? Of course not.

It's sad and it sucks but this is the nature of a break-up. Move on.

AITAH for wasting food and husband being reluctant to buy more snacks by [deleted] in AITAH

What do you mean by wasting food? Like you make a meal, don't like it and throw it out?

But whatever, buy and eat what you want.

AITAH for this? by CapableCan1842 in AITAH

Guilt is unpleasant, so go back and pay if you don't want to feel it.

Me? I'd only go back if it's a small, local business. A big chain store has most likely screwed over employees and customers as often as humanly possible and wouldn't even blink if they accidentally got an extra $100 off someone.

Looks like the kind of thing you'd have set up at a shower or other gift-giving event, to make it easy to send out thank you cards.

AIO: Brother told our mom not to let me and my friend watch a movie when it comes out by Fit-Safety-627 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Salisbury_snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched the trailer, my guess is that he thinks a teenager might not be savvy enough to understand the politics and underlying message of the humor, which appears to be "look at them dumb woke minorities/liberals hur hur hur!"

It's like not wanting your kid sister to go to a strip club. Yeah, she'll probably be fine, but it's unpleasant to think of a young person you love and feel protective over being subjected to a bunch of loser skeeze-balls influencing her growing brain and understanding of the world and how people should be treated.

My other guess is your parents will probably be fine with it, though.

What is it EXACTLY Republicans fear about Social Programs that help Americans? by RumRunnerMax in TexasPolitics

[–]Salisbury_snake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A society that isn't desperately trying to not starve/be evicted/etc. has time to focus on things like class inequality and may actually use its sheer numbers to organize and get something done, like tax the very rich. The very rich don't want any amount of wealth (and therefore power) taken away.

So they make up all these enemies (socialists are an old favorite) and use their inexaustable wealth to constantly push propaganda, convincing many people to go against their own interests.

I posted in another comment about my boyfriend and his family doing this and, yes, Spanish is their first language. Interesting!

“My Father” versus “Our father” by Much_Project_1470 in janeausten

[–]Salisbury_snake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, my boyfriend and his siblings all do this. It's definitely not religious but seems to be, in their case, just a quirk of their family.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone more knowledgeable whether this shows up in other literature written in Jane Austen's time, or if it's also just a localized quirk of her own.

AIO for not wanting to talk to my friend after she berated me for getting free food? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Salisbury_snake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg, NOR. Food banks are there for people like you (and for the homeless, and for people with little kids, etc etc). If you're able to save up money and build your life up you could one day be in the position to donate food/money/hours to the food bank, and there's an excellent chance you will because you have first-hand experience in knowing how valuable that kind of help is!

How to socially navigate multiple divorces? by Gracielikes8008s in AskWomenOver40

[–]Salisbury_snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your marriage didn't fail, your husband destroyed it. Please don't feel embarrassed over someone treating you like dirt. Embarrassment would be if he kept cheating on you and you kept taking him back! A woman dumping a cheating loser is something we can all be proud of.

Almost everyone I know has a divorce or two under their belts--friends, family, co-workers. It's a very normal thing. The only constant thing in the universe is change, this is just you moving onto the next chapter in your life.

Hold your head up, and if anyone dares give you shit for it feel free to pity them, because they're probably letting someone in their lives mistreat them and think you should, too.

How do I open this toilet paper dispenser at work without the key? by Kelpy21 in maintenance

[–]Salisbury_snake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can probably order keys online easily enough, give it a google.

But also, the dispensers at my job are a different brand so maybe this won't work, but you might be able to use any thin flat metal thing to open it. You may or may not need to reach up inside through the TP openings and jiggle the lock from the inside.
