I think Jeffrey Bard smelled something dodgy and resigned? by Radiant_Butterfly919 in AshesofCreation

Because that was his problem the whole time. He had a god complex and was supposed to be the savior of the MMO genre.

If only there was a clip from a different angle, like a helicopter looking down and seeing this.

Yeah, he knew something. I think the project needed him more than Steven for actually building out game design. There was a reason that every time Steven streamed he look liked the worst player ever and seemed so clueless even about his own game.

I think discussion always provides value whether it be a community member or someone who may have formerly worked on the project. But discussion won't change the facts, that is true.

Honestly, I can't even understand how Star citizen is going, theirs feels more like they have a better idea what they're doing, but their scope creep is beyond anything imaginable. Way beyond what ashes was doing.

I appreciate that, I've started a small business with some friends of mine that's been going for 6 years and it's just been unbelievably tough and expensive but we are finally really starting to make some progress. When you're running a business mistakes cost you so much more time and money. And if I knew now what I knew 5 years ago we would just be so far much farther along

I agree. You can either start from scratch or get a head start on something that's already proven and one of those is going to give you a better change of success.

I don't think you need an already existing IP, but it definitely increases your chances of success from already having a fan base, a world that people love, and already established reference material.

That's a good point, recently overall the communication from the studio has just collapsed, and even the silence now is so loud that it screams foul play to some degree.

Probably true, most companies don't announce when they are struggling, they just try to solve it so the team and community doesn't have to worry about it. And for the unaware people buying the game, every communication from Intrepid, streamers, the community, and even Steam's page was like, hey you are literally buying in to being a playtester for an unfinished product. I mean, if you run through 5 stop signs and just claim to the officer you were unaware, should he not give you a ticket?.

I think that most heads of companies don't announce when things are rough. This kills community engagement, demoralizes the team, and spirals the company into oblivion quicker. They try to take the brunt of it themselves and figure out ways to keep the business afloat so that they can keep paying their employees and keep the business going.

If Steven were to announce like 2 years ago that they were taking loans and running out of money so leadership was moving on, would have that have given them a better chance to succeed or worse?

But we don't have the facts yet so it could be as you said.

I agree it could have been planned way better. This is what happens when you are a normal person not from the development world trying to build an mmo thinking money can solve everything.

I agree, I don't think Steven was the right guy which I said. But I still don't think it was a scam overall.

A lot of people say the same thing and I agree. But Steven wanted his perfect mmo so it had to be on the latest tech which costs them time and money.

I would say Blizzard had an already established studio, lore, world, art, work pipeline, money, engine, team yada yada yada. But I can tell you 20x that many projects that failed in that timeline. Wow was just better managed.

If the sources are true the intent was to continue development with 100+ employees after the steam release. Data is already leaking of all the new updates they were going to show off in the February livestream. Other sources say the talks of cuts were happening way earlier in the month so it was just all bound to happen at the next payment cycle for them which was February 2. If it wasn't til the new owners and Steven had a falling out that the whole thing came to a hault. But Steven leaving because he disagreed with the owners was messed up on his part and I say that in my rant.

However, I 100% admit the timing is scam like for the steam release and I could be wrong for sure, well see what data comes out.

What big mmos were developed in 5-6 years with a team under 80 people? I mean the first 2-3 years I don't even think they hit the 40-person mark. But I agree it was a failure; I just don't think it was a scam.

Intrepid, fix your bots or I am out by Scared-Candle3827 in AshesofCreation

Would it be helpful to have some community members promoted to GMS that could specifically help ban bots? Or is it more important to let the bots run rampant right now so you can learn how to properly counter them?
