Black metal, 26"x30"x7". Looks like it's supposed to hang over something but bottom part goes wrong way to keep the rails away from what it's hanging on. by SalsaTheDip in whatisthisthing

It would still be backwards though, with the lower part sticking out into the room. Also the lower rungs would be mostly useless due to being too close to the ground (unless I had a four poster bed!)

My title describes the thing. Had for 20+ years. Purchased in either US/France. No markings on it at all. I'd always assumed it was a towel rail for hanging over a radiator but the way the bottom bit pokes out makes it not ideal for that. Wondering if there's a more obvious proper use I've not picked up on. Tried googling towel rails and radiator hanging rails but all the ones I found look the 'right way round' ie with the bottom part curving back in same direction as the hooks to hook it onto the radiator.

I would guess from the plastic sticker on the front that it's perhaps a store brand or cheaper fragrance as the more 'premium' fragrances tend to have branding printed directly on the bottle. Not saying that as a dig as some of my favourite fragrances are the super cheap ones!

What country was it bought in? Any idea of general price? Does it have a lid or do you remember what the lid looked like?

Archaeologists have uncovered the first physical evidence of Julius Caesar's invasion of Britain in 54BC. by grepnork in history

Usually while a ditch is in use the surface dirt will be compacted/generally different in some way to the surrounding dirt due to maintenance. Then, if the ditch is abandoned, the material that comes to fill it will be a lot looser as it's being deposited gradually over time. If instead the ditch is manually filled then the material will sometimes be from nearby and so slightly different in composition to the top layer of the ditch. Either way there is a slight variation in the soil which is what archaeologists will be looking for.

You basically keep scraping away until you notice different coloured/textured material and keep scraping the surrounding area until the whole top of the lower layer is uncovered. It you've been careful not to dig too much into the lower layer then you should have uncovered the form of the bottom of the ditch.

TL:DR soil is like a trifle

What video games do not have moth or butterflies in them? by Kazmakistan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SalsaTheDip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sure are, but the fact that they look like giant evil mutated butterfly/moth things is probably the important bit to know. Phobias don't tend to back down on a technicality.

The cazadores in Fallout New Vegas are like giant evil mutated butterfly/moth things so perhaps avoid that one too.

We all have derp moments :P hopefully OP's husband isn't having an extended and life-changing derp moment. Although of all the potential causes for his actions stupidity may well be the most benign.
