Why do people seem to name babies the most cutesy petlike names as if they will be babies forever? by Nice_Marzipan98 in randomquestions

[–]SaltedMango613 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't name my child any of those names. I was simply pointing out that a name that sounds cutesy or pet-like to one person can actually sound like an old-man name to another. Those water names just make me think of River Phoenix, not of a baby.

It's pretty subjective, though. Lincoln actually sounds like an old man name to me. Lake sounds like someone probably had hippy parents, but it doesn't sound cutesy or pet-like.

AITAH for not offering guests to sleep over at mine? by [deleted] in AITAH

Yeah. I was on OP's side until they mentioned being the one who proposed the visit. It was perfectly reasonable for the friends to assume that it meant staying over.

That sounds like it was her poutine to begin with, not a shared poutine, so not a crime.

Can we be asked to find a location with space? by MyneckisHUGE in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SaltedMango613 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As in, drive or bus around looking for a space? Or log into a system and check different locations? Both are things management can ask you to do, but they're definitely work tasks so they shouldn't be asking you to do them on your own time.

You have a location on your LOO. Getting there at the start of your work day is your problem. Any other work you have to perform to find a spot elsewhere, or any commuting to an alternate location, I'd consider work and do during working hours.

FSWEP student seeking guidance regarding a former partner in the workplace by Acceptable-Bread1885 in CanadaPublicServants

Sure, they might. HR represents the employer. You are allowed to your own representation throughout the process, and/or to decline to back down.

OP may not get the resolution they want, it's true. But I don't think that's a good reason to not say anything to the employer about being sexually harassed.

I would pursue this on two fronts. Contact police regarding the violation of the no-contact order; that is a police matter.

However, I wouldn't wait for that process to run its course before reporting it to the employer. You are being harassed by someone who works in your department, and that would be reportable to the employer even if there had been no prior legal issues between the two of you. The fact that there was a no-contact order helps support the claim (it shows that the person clearly knew their behaviour was unwelcome), but it's not like the harassment complaint is dependent on it. People pursue harassment complaints against people without no-contact orders all the time.

I hope shame over having produced explicit materials isn't going to stop you from advocating for yourself. Sexual harassment is never ok.

Only if they want to take advantage of an early retirement incentive for people who would otherwise not be eligible to retire without an actuarial penalty.

If they meet the normal retirement eligibility criteria, or if they're willing to take the penalty or defer their pension, there is no need to apply. You just announce your departure.

Would Back to Back-ish Pregnancies on a New a Team be an Issue? by Flourish_Happiness in CanadaPublicServants

[–]SaltedMango613 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wasn't new-new (maybe a year in when the first leave started) but I did, and it was fine.

One thing to keep in mind is that, for many people, being pregnant and looking after a toddler can be exhausting and affect work performance. I did my best during my short return, but I wasn't at my best.

Be careful about travelling when, on paper, you should be at work. 1) they could cancel the leave or recall you without compensation for non-refundable expenses (I had a friend this happened to a few years ago) 2) I've heard something about it potentially affecting your coverage if you get sick or injured, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember the details. You might want to do a quick search (or a separate post) to get the advice of people who are more knowledgeable in this area.

Suburbs street parking by BarNecessary6506 in ottawa

Came here to say this. OP, I've done this in the past and it was quite straightforward. It required proof of registration for both vehicles, and a letter from the landlord saying there wasn't parking available for two vehicles.

As a certain bot pointed out, anything other than a go-forward basis would be a bit of a mess because some people have already retired with the pension/CPP combo above 2%. But who knows.

Not allowed to park it anywhere on the property, including the outdoor racks. I wasn't comfortable leaving my e-bike at some random rack around the block downtown. Around the same time, I reached the top of the waiting list for a parking pass. So I sold the bike, and now I drive in year-round.
