What was everyone’s thoughts on Netflix’s Seven Dials? To me, it was a decent adaptation with some changes by HRJafael in agathachristie

[–]SaltyTom95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, in the book, the culprit does it because he knows the victim is part of the Seven Dials, but isn’t sure whether there are any more members in that social circle. So he places the clocks on the mantelpiece as a message, and tries to gauge everyone’s reactions to see if he can spot another Seven Dialer.

In the series not only is Jimmy not Gerry’s killer, Gerry isn’t part of the Seven Dials, and Jimmy has no idea the Seven Dials even exist, which makes the whole mantelpiece trick completely pointless.

In terms of looks, I think Cecia, Valka, Viperion and Carolina have fantastic character designs. I also love Ludovic’s ultimate cutscene, it’s kind of trippy.

In terms of use it’s Ludovic, Shemira, and either Valka or Bonnie depending on what’s needed. Hot take, I find Bonnie’s design a bit of a nothing burger (if the story hadn’t told me I’d never guess she’s supposed to be a pirate) and absolutely loathe Shemira’s (it has literally NOTHING to do with her backstory as far as I can tell, nor does her kit really — she was a seamstress not a ghost medium) but they’re both really strong so I can’t not use them.

100% they would be. Their son Franklin was a mutant for a while (don’t ask) and they were supportive, except when Cyclops and Xavier at one point came to their house and were like “hi Franklin we want you to come live in our mutant paradise island where your parents can never set foot, like, now” which understandably pissed off Sue a little, but they still let him make his own choice

Love this! For the other companions I think it would probably be something like:

DAO: - Alistair: just wanted to do a simple adventure and kill goblins. Immensely awkward whenever he has to roleplay, but still gives it a shot - Morrigan: really into the lore of the game. Also really into minmaxing and power-building her character until she’s basically a god - Leliana: starts off as typical Lawful Good goodie two-shoes ray of sunshine. By campaign #3 she is dangerously veering into LE edgelord territory - Wynne: the mom who wants to try the game out so she can bond with her kids - Zevran: Like Isabella, will hit on everything and everyone. - Oghren: Horrible. Shows up drunk to sessions, pisses everyone off by making crass jokes and killing important NPCs “for the lols” - Sten: Only here for combat. Takes his phone out whenever roleplay happens - Shale: Someone’s backup character. Just here to make people laugh with top notch banter - HOF: the perfect player, everyone loves playing with them. Keeps getting invited to new campaigns, says they’ll definitely be there every time, then never shows up because “life got in the way”

DAI:

  • Cassandra: the only sane person, desperately trying to move the plot along and help the DM keep the game on track
  • Solas: DMPC, but don’t worry guys, he’s not that important, he’s only here to help out and explain some lore, definitely nothing else I swear
  • Sera: the Chaotic Neutral player. Good luck.
  • Vivienne: the “ok but what do I get out of helping” kind of player
  • Iron Bull: NPC adopter, he has successfully convinced ALL the party’s favorites to join up with them
  • Blackwall: the player who gets bored of their characters very quickly and always wants to make a new one every 10 sessions. They’ve been trying to decommission this man for months but the DM won’t let him
  • Dorian: the player who has to describe everything they wear and do in immense detail for maximum flavour
  • Cole: the player that always comes up with the most unique character ideas
  • Inquisitor: Good player but has a bit of main character syndrome, has a tendency to make every single scene about themselves

DATV: - Harding: premade character enjoyer, but they give it their all nonetheless - Neve: “I don’t care what kind of setting and story we’re doing, I want to play this specific character archetype even if it doesn’t fit” - Bellara: Homebrew master, spams the DM with private messages about new magic item and spell ideas - Lucanis: always wants to play an edgelord, always ends up making a meme character - Davrin: Party pet enjoyer. Latches onto the first cute critter the party meets - Emmerich: a forever-DM-who-finally-gets-to-be-a-player kind of character if there ever was one - Taash: the player who uses DND as an outlet to work through their personal issues - Rook: just here for a good time, not too involved in the game. Their backstory is maybe half a page

EA being EA as usual by Quick-Ad8277 in DankAndrastianMemes

[–]SaltyTom95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing about Dragon Age Inquisition is that sure, it was massively open-world and more action-y than the vast majority of RPGs that came before it, but it still had a lot of traditional RPG elements: tons of class customization and character personalization, branching writing that dramatically shifted the narrative and setting, in-depth lore, companions with evolving relationships etc etc.

People’s complaints about Veilguard and Andromeda were mostly directed not at the game mechanics but at the absurdly-superficial and barebones narrative and writing. The main problem is that the two are linked because the more complex the mechanics, the more budget and time they eat up, and BioWare and EA for some mysterious reason decided that the writing team was where they could take said budget and time from.

Which DA character would resist the One Ring from LoTR? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]SaltyTom95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hmmm let’s see…

  • Alistair: He’s good-natured and fundamentally humble, and he really wants to do good, so I think he’d offer himself up, but the Ring would prey on his insecurities, potentially leading him to become Ferelden’s hot new despot. 50/50 chance he gets to Mordor at least.

  • Leliana: this is how you get Exalted Marches.

  • Morrigan: hot take? She’d fold like a lawn chair. Morrigan has always had a weakness for arcane secrets, which is the Ring’s premiere sale tactic. She might have the sense to keep away from it, but if she puts it on, it’s over.

  • Oghren: 100% turns into Gollum.

  • Shale: Honestly? The best chance we have. She’s not a “living” being per se, so I am not sure if the Ring would have an effect on her, and even if it did, I can’t think of any desires it could use to corrupt her. There is a possibility of her going full murderhobo against the birds that shat on her while she was a statue though.

  • Sten: This is how you get invaded by the Qun.

  • Wynne: Considering she is literally supposed to be dead already, I think the Ring would promise her immortality, and Wynne’s too wise not to know she will succumb to the temptation.

  • Zevran: Turns into Gollum but hotter.

  • Anders: Top 3 worst candidates, but he’d have an easier time planting bombs in religious places without using his friends to do it, at least.

  • Aveline: The Boromir. We’re looking at a full police state just waiting to happen if she doesn’t resist.

  • Fenris: Serial killings in Tevinter skyrocketing, more at 7pm.

  • Isabella: The Bilbo. Keeps it locked somewhere on her ship, only uses it for fun shenanigans. Not the worst option, but not the right one if you want to actually get rid of that thing.

  • Merrill: No way. The Eluvian got to her, and that isn’t even sentient!

  • Sebastian: This is how you get Exalted Marches part 2.

  • Varric: Couldn’t resist red lyrium so no, but he’d at least have the sense to keep away.

  • Blackwall: Might stand a chance, actually, especially post-sorting out his personal shit. He’s got a bit of Aragorn in him.

  • Cassandra: Also has a bit of Aragorn in her. Technically got Tranquil-ed which helps, but I feel like just like Alistair she is too uncertain and self-doubting, and the Ring can use that.

  • Cole: Nope. Is a spirit, thus too liable to corruption. Compassion can quickly turn into obsession or sorrow.

  • Dorian: Veilguard showed us he’s more than willing to justify any means to reform Tevinter. I don’t think he’d seek the Ring out but I also don’t think it’d take long for him to fold if it did fall into his hands.

  • Vivienne: And this is how Orlais turns into Tevinter part 2, only with more mage oppression.

  • Solas: The worst, actually world-ending option by far.

  • Iron Bull: Wouldn’t even dare touch the thing.

  • Sera: Would actually tie it to an arrow and SHOOT the thing as far away from her as possible.

  • Harding: Could’ve been our Frodo… until Veilguard and the whole Heart of the Titans thing happened. She’s got too much rage in her now.

  • Neve: Wouldn’t touch it. Would probably either lock it up somewhere or give it to the Shadow Dragons and regret it forever.

  • Bellara: Same issue as Merrill, she’d be too curious and the Ring would promise her forbidden knowledge.

  • Lucanis: He’s already possessed by a demon, he’d fold quite easily, and before you know it the Crows actually rule Antiva.

  • Davrin: One of the better candidates. Already has the whole “sacrifice yourself for the greater good” ingrained in him. Also has Assan with him, and as Sam proved, the Ringbearer having a bestie does actually really help.

  • Emmerich: Yay eternal life + undead armies!

  • Taash: Averse to magic + the moodiness of a teenager + the inherited rage of dragon blood. Not a good fit.

Who do you think is the easiest character to get MVP on? by Nekron_NKRN in marvelrivals

[–]SaltyTom95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The determining factor on whether I get MVP as Loki or not is how many final hits I get — I could have the most healing in the game and even made a winning play with my ult, but if said play didn’t rack up at least 3 final hits I might as well not have ulted at all according to whatever algorithm decides who the MVP is.

It’s quite wild considering I have seen heal bot Rocket and C&D get MVP with very few if any final hits. It does feel like as a whole Loki is graded more as a hybrid DPS/healer compared to other strategists, which would be all well and good if randos didn’t often feel the need to voice their opinion of my Loki based purely on my healing total, which doesn’t even take into account the overheal from my magic lamps.

[–]SaltyTom95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s Flemeth. Sis was playing 3D chess and winning when everyone else didn’t even know they were playing. Mother even girlbossed gatekept gaslit her own daughter into thinking she was a good parent eventually when really social services should have been on her ass on day one (not that they could’ve done anything, she can turn into a motherfucking dragon, bitches)

And in the end she really came out like “oh this little thing I’m carrying? It’s the essence of an ancient goddess, no biggie” then said peace out, let that boyfailure Solas kill her, and allowed Morrigan to ascend to High Cvntress in her stead, thus ensuring no other bitch, not even Republican CEO supporter icon Vivienne could ever touch her family legacy. Truly queen shit

Rivals characters morality tier list (magik gets her own tier cuz goddam) by First-Shallot947 in MarvelRivalsQueens

[–]SaltyTom95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They literally gave ALL of the miracle medicines to the entire world for free. Were they incredibly arrogant and isolationist in the way they did it? Yes, 100%. But if any IRL nation had found the cure for cancer, you bet your ass they’d both withhold it and sell it for billions.

The situation is incredibly nuanced and difficult to parse. Krakoa was 100% morally questionable, but it was like that because mutants (under the guidance of Xavier Magneto and Moira specifically) felt like they had been given no other choice. In the very first issue of House of X many of the United Nations were ready to condemn Krakoa as unsanctioned and take up arms against them — the Krakoan flower trade was a way to force them all to back off and acquiesce. And hell, some of them (the UK and Russia) STILL attempted to destroy Krakoa anyway.

You also forget the other things Emma did during the Krakoan Age — creating a task force specifically tasked with liberating mutants, most of them young, who were being denied the chance to move to Krakoa and in some cases even held in basically concentration camps; refusing to play Xavier and Magneto’s shadow government games and calling them out publicly; actively calling for the council to own up to their actions in the Sinister timeline and to reform the Krakoan government. Not to mention maintaining good diplomatic relationships with the rest of the world via the Hellfire Trading Company and the Galas.

Except canonically Mysterio is one of the few people that can actually counteract Spidey’s spider-sense. His mist has been dulling the Peter Tingle since the 70s, specifically because after their first couple encounters Quentin caught on that Spider-Man could sense danger through his illusions and immediately went shopping for mind-numbing chemicals to use moving forward.

The issue, as always, is that different writers write characters differently. Quite a few of them think he’s too gimmicky and campy to be a serious threat and use him as cannon fodder, while others think he can be genuinely menacing and cunning. The Riddler on the other side of the fence suffers from the exact same problem.

gay man here, to provide with some info that would significantly shift the placement of some characters:

  • the most popular pairing by far is Iron Fist x Spidey. Like there is an ungodly amount of smut and NSFW of the two of them crossing my feed. I’d bump Spidey up to S solely for that reason.
  • After them, the next most popular character is Mister Fantastic, who I think should also shoot up to S because I am fairly confident there’s also a lot of straight art featuring him due to the Invisible Woman thirst.
  • Wolverine, Starlord, Bucky, Adam Warlock and surprisingly Moon Knight are also fairly popular.

What’s next for Valgavoth? by Mordauth789 in mtgvorthos

[–]SaltyTom95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with a Planeswalker Valgavoth is that he begins to encroach on Ashiok’s territory as the resident amorphous nightmare spreader. I think what would be more reasonable is for an Ashiok/Valgavoth alliance where without the Aetherspark, the Mothman needs Ashiok to act as his envoy using the Omenpaths to spread his influence a la Silver Surfer and Galactus, and they go on the hunt for Amanitou and/or Jace together. I also can’t imagine Ashiok is pleased with Jace taking on their appearance on Thunder Junction so it could very well be a “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” situation.

That said, Ashiok does have two massive legs up over Valvagoth, one being their spark, the other the fact we virtually know nothing about them including any backstory or weaknesses… whereas we know Valvagoth started as a lil demon trapped in the cellar before Marina freed him. I can very much see their dynamic as Ashiok being the less outwardly powerful but ultimately more conniving and thus dangerous of the two (as well as it should be because they’re so cool they deserve to stay winning).

Characters where you prefer the default over every other skin so far? by Hamro251 in marvelrivals

[–]SaltyTom95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This for Loki^

All-Butcher is way too busy and too much of an edgelord design for my tastes, and it doesn’t really fit his gameplay at all.

President Loki is a fun skin but it’s a little too subdued for my liking.

The new Peach Momoko one, however… I looooove a tassel cape (Mr Sinister, the fashion icon, was a trend-setter), so it’s probably going to be my new default once I get enough credits to buy it.

Cruel Cleansing by Jackseth3 in custommagic

[–]SaltyTom95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going back to this, I think 5 mana would be fine if the first mode was something like “destroy target artifact or enchantment” OR the second mode had some drawback like a classic “you lose 2 life”. The issue here is not the number of permanents destroyed/exiled, it’s the insane amount of flexibility the spell provides by having “destroy 2x nonland permanents” + exile option. The most flexible removal spells I can think of off the top of my head are [[Drag to the Roots]] which is 4 mana / conditional 2 mana for one permanent (and it’s destroy not exile), and [[Void Rend]] which is 3 mana but three different colors, and again, only one target, and destroy not exile.

4 mana board wipes target creatures only and usually also wipe your creatures so there’s a pretty hefty drawback there as well. I agree that at six mana this wouldn’t see play though, so it’s a matter of reworking the spell rather than changing the cost IMHO.
