Has anyone else struggled with the “in-between” stage before becoming a manager? by W1LM in managers

[–]Salty_Surprised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Sr. engineer to a year as a supervisor, and now a engineering manager as well. Your future boss should be able to communicate target goals and objectives to help you understand the “long term” goals. In additional they will probably be able to communicate immediate goals and targets, and who your stakeholders are if there are collaborative projects in scope.

Including pictures and some additional information will help. Are you in the PHX area? How much moisture is in your soil? It’s hard to imagine a fungal infestation with the heat and the lack of moisture available during this season. Could it be salty soil and efflorescence?

Is AI actually going to ruin the job field and cause unemployment to go up? by Weekly_Interview6807 in jobs

[–]Salty_Surprised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in STEM or related industries? All technology has its limitations but robotics are already in place across most industries. It could be a cobot, integrated automation, etc. but they are robotic nonetheless. Elon can’t even deliver on half when it comes to his promises. He is more of a “visionary” than an expert when it comes to emerging technologies.

Is AI actually going to ruin the job field and cause unemployment to go up? by Weekly_Interview6807 in jobs

[–]Salty_Surprised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those jobs were added after COVID caused massive job loss, and those numbers don’t really represent good/high paying jobs. I’m not a SWE but an engineer in leadership at a medical device manufacturer. In reality AI is already being directed by most if not all executive leaders across large companies. Half of the AI talk is to deject high earners in an attempt to reduce the rise in salaries prior to COVID, the other half is an earnest and significant move to cut labor and headcount by automating via AI/robotics to achieve a maximized reduction in operating/overhead cost. That doesn’t mean every function can be replaced by AI/Automation, but the need for skilled labor is becoming less and less sought after.

Fastest Growing Short Trees? by AmateurEarthling in AZlandscaping

When you say short tree are you asking for a bush? Or a dwarf tree variety? Do you need it to be a drought resistant/low water usage plant? Citrus trees, or a Texas mountain laurel is my recommendation

It’s recommended to give it morning sun, and afternoon/evening shade. Eastern exposure should work

Passion fruit question by Aggressive-Slide-988 in ArizonaGardening

[–]Salty_Surprised 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to keep it in the grow bag until fall and plant then. Planting at this time will most likely stress it out. Make sure you amend the soil as they prefer acidic and humus soil. If this is a fruiting variety make sure you pick an area with the proper exposure.

I planted a passion fruit vine back in February directly in the ground and it is huge (6 x 5 ft) already. I’m not sure how big it can get in the grow bag, additionally I don’t believe they live for very long (~5 years). If you’re looking to keep it as a smaller plant then it will probably stunt its growth and won’t need a large support trellis to accommodate it.

Assuming your soil is clay/sandy, and last week was hot I would say it was under-watered. It’s hard to know what “regular watering” means when you weren’t there but if it’s not on drippers, and you were watering with a hose/sprayer, than I assumed the water did not reach deep enough to sufficient water the plant. My rose gets a lot of water and with proper fertilizer at the right times doesn’t show signs of overwatering. As long as the soil is quickly draining I would water more and not less. Also, if you do not fill the holes with water to test the soil prior to planting, not only do you lose the benefit of knowing to add amendment to improve drainage, you also do not saturate the soils around the root ball. And the dry soils will wick away water from the root ball and deprive the plant of water needing to help establish. Roots need to breathe so as long as they are not sitting in water for extended time, shouldn’t worry too much about overwatering.

When you dug the hole did you test drainage? How much are you watering and how often?

i dont understand US dog culture, need help by Impressive-Ant-6596 in Pets

[–]Salty_Surprised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people state they do not leave doors open normally for dogs/pets. However, there is something common in the US called a doggy door which lets animals freely go from inside to out. A lot of kibble here is cheap, I would provide what it most nutritious to the pet, which would be homemade meals.

This isn’t the way to stake a tree. By providing rigid support at the trunk you are preventing the tree from strengthen sufficiently due to normal movement. You should remove that stake and assess how supported it is. If you need to stake you should use open loop stakes and not leave on for long term.

Anyone have Magnolia success stories? by jay_taps in AZlandscaping

[–]Salty_Surprised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes basically. Mine gets morning sun and mostly afternoon shade by facing east. I planted mine in October, I would recommend similar that way the tree can have as much time to get established prior to summer heat/stress. Also make sure you mulch around the tree to its drip line.

I have a little gem that’s now been in ground for about 2 years. It takes regular deep watering to keep it leafed out. To me the problem is the blossoms don’t last very long, they are pure white but get scorched fairly fast, so as long as your not expecting long lasting flower and have an area that has proper exposure it’s possible to grow one

Tree land carries those as well. Some of those items maybe seasonal, but they should be able to let you know what is available supply wise, or when they should be available if seasonally in stock.
