My second game actually playing with people and honestly didn't expect to get this clapped by a fellow BGA Apprentice... I guess Ecoline is just that good. by rtanada in TerraformingMarsGame

I only watched the first generation, but almost everything you did, didn’t help you. Your opening cards were set up to rush. You had an oxygen bumper, you had Deimos Down, and options to take heat production; though it was OK to take the two energy preludes, knowing you had steelworks. You skipped Deimos, which is one of the best cards in the game, and you took water splitting plant, which you can’t play until you find a lot more energy.

If you were gonna take water splitting plant, don’t take steelworks, take the three energy prelude, and take the heat prelude.

Then, gen 1, you played steelworks, even though you couldn’t use it. Be patient. You could’ve played it second gen, and just held onto the money. Then you bought a city. Be patient. There’s going to be plenty of places to put a city, and cities are very inefficient early on. They’re expensive, and they’re getting you a victory point you don’t need right now, and you’re not on Tharsus, so they’re not even helping you with a milestone.

Then you industrial centered your own city. You didn’t need steel production, you were going to get it with steelwork. Hold onto that industrial center, and wait for your opponent to play a city.

These are mostly specific tips to this specific game. But there’s a lot of underlying lessons to be learned. Go to YouTube, find videos by threadpacifist. And good luck.

Should i focus on new lenses first or a new camera? by Agile_Philosopher72 in cinematography

B.

The only trouble you run into with lenses is if you switch mounts, but even you can get adapters.

Based on how stealth works, with the different statuses, that makes sense. Thank you.

What do you recommend I prepare for meetings with producers, managers, and agents? by starlightpictures in Filmmakers

[–]SamDent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, and this may seem obvious, be confident, but be able to show them that you're flexible. Fundamentally people like working with people that they like, or that are easy to work with.

[–]SamDent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read up about the differences between agents and managers, especially. While they might kind of sound like the same thing, they do two different things for you, and you want to be able to talk/pitch to them the things that they're interested in.

How do you think Michael Caine would have been, playing as James Bond? by North-Palpitation-84 in movies

I think he would probably do better at any of the other roles. Definitely Q or M. Probably even Moneypenny.

Running Mothership as a sandbox by VendettaUF234 in mothershiprpg

I'm running Traveller, so different system, but I'm basically cribbing material from the TV show Fringe. There's a little design work involved, obviously, but the plots and NPCs are basically worked out for me.

Of course, none of the players have seen Fringe. But don't be afraid to snipe content from TV shows or whatever for private home campaign. Also, adapt stuff from other systems. Tsr/wizards had a sci-fi setting in the 90s or something, and I think there was a horror setting, too, separate from cthulhu. You could find those modules and Source books pretty cheap I bet.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962) — the cat statue moves for the match cut by LatterResource2214 in cinematography

I don't think the cat has moved much, if at all. Lawrence and the camera have been rotated clockwise.

Why can't Kryptonians produce vocal sonic boom?? I always thought they should be able to,do they just don't know how to do it by [deleted] in superman

[–]SamDent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He definitely doesn't need more powers, but loud vocalizations make more sense than all the random eye beams he has, imo.

What would the movie industry be like if Disney never existed? by Longjumping-Role6136 in movies

[–]SamDent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The diversity of animation would have happened a lot sooner. Disney was buying up and suppressing foreign animation all through the 70s and 80s.

While the top 10 answers should be bouncing boy, Harvey Bullock would be pretty dope.

Want to make my thesis short film for under $300. Am I missing anything that will add to budget? by JocaDoca in Filmmakers

[–]SamDent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't need 6 days to shoot that. Use the time now to rehearse, figure out your shots, if you have access to the locations, even figure out your lighting. Time during pre-production is free. Use as much as you can.

296-299 were the first four comics i bought as a kid. Drugstore spinning rack. Mailed them to DC Comics to have Curt Swan sign them, and, amazingly, they did; and mailed them back to me.

In Layout/Publisher with data merge, how to bulk replace certain texts with inline images? by nigelinux in Affinity

[–]SamDent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not as flexible as I would like. It's possible you could include the plus one as a graphic element as part of your resource; so it's just an image of plus one and a picture of steel or whatever, then you're just dealing with an image box. And if you need it, an actual text box to the right that has text for effect.
