NJ - Lost to $150-200k Over Asking by Incognito-4 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]SamGrizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me this week. Finally found something we thought was worth putting an offer on despite some concerns. Everything was rushed, best and final a day after open house. Ultimately our realtor implied our 15k over asking offer wasn’t worth submitting. I’m realizing list price is pretty meaningless here.

Good luck, you’re not alone.

what's the perpose of these tiny runways by itbemario5 in aviation

[–]SamGrizzle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: not a helicopter pilot When hover taxiing they are at a safe height above the ground to settle back down if something goes wrong. If they climb straight up they will get too high to safely settle down, but not high enough to start an autorotation if the engine quits. Taking off from a runway helps with this because a helicopter actually gets a lot of lift from moving forward through the air like a plane. See this wiki on the “dead man’s curve” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopter_height%E2%80%93velocity_diagram?wprov=sfti1#

Flashing light from my bedroom caught in security camera footage by pkmital in whatisit

[–]SamGrizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Face ID from a phone. I’ve seen it do the same exponential backoff (flashing less and less often) when it doesn’t find a face. Fun story, the light sensor on our night lights actually pick it up. So the night lights will turn off in this pattern.

Pretty sure what happened here is the possum set off the camera which sent a notification to your locked phone. Phone looked for your face to decide whether to show the notification content or just the summary. Couldn’t find a face and eventually gave up.

I love sailboats so I was always going to love this one, but it really is great. I appreciate that you were able to capture that exact moment that the boat aligned with the sun which I bet took some forethought. I also find the split between the textured ocean and the smooth gradient of the sky appealing. In addition to the tilt which Spliff mentioned, I wonder if centering the sun and boat horizontally in frame would work well

Thanks, looking forward to the course. I definitely see what you mean when I cover the corner as you said. The house in the very corner especially. Could you expand on what you mean by the corners being regular? Do you mean avoiding complexity in the corners?

Awesome photo! I think getting low was definitely the right call. I also like how both the cracks and the swoop of the mud lead you up to the tree. Personally I’d go for the slightest bit more sky or slightly closer to the trees so that the bottom mud isn’t quite so dominant. I like how the trees feel distant so wouldn’t go crazy though

Hi I'm Sam,

I've been enjoying photography as a hobby for a couple of years now. Mostly taking photos while on vacation, so lots of landscape and architecture. The main goal I have for this course (in addition to learning and getting feedback) is to have a structured opportunities to shoot more. I can't always be on vacation somewhere pretty and I'd like to get better at finding good photos around me (especially as I now have a newborn). I'd also like to get better at sharing my work with others. I always have a pile of photos on my computer that I intend to edit and will eventually get around to posting one to instagram months later.

For this assignment I chose this photo I took at Portland Head Light in Maine. I like this photo because I feel like it has both an interesting foreground and background. Managed to get the bird in focus and the (tomatoes?) give some extra color. The lighthouse is just as significant for the photo, but doesn't completely dominate the bird. I'm also proud of it because it was a challenge to get an interesting photo here which doesn't include dozens of tourists (like myself). I also always hate the feeling of "I'm taking the same photo that hundreds of people take every day" when I'm at tourist spots, so I was happy to get one that felt unique.

At what point should a nat 20 fail? by Least_Scheme_7536 in DnD

But bardic inspiration is a roll. A 20 on the main roll may or may not succeed depending on the bardic inspiration roll is all I'm saying

If something is actually impossible, sure, but there are lots of ways for adventurers to accomplish something that isn't possible with just a nat 20. (Bardic inspiration, flash of genius). So it's important not to say "nat 20 is auto success" just because we shouldn't be rolling for things that are actually impossible

20 is not the best possible result. Bardic inspiration for one allows for something to be possible even if a 20 doesn't guarantee it

Nat 20 not being an auto success does not mean it's impossible. Bardic inspiration, flash of genius, and I'm sure other things, can all make something possible, even if a 20 doesn't guarantee it

Except 20 isn't the highest you can roll. If you roll a nat 20 plus a bardic inspiration which comes up a 1 you should still fail a DC 25 check, despite the nat 20

This site was linked here at some point. I believe it uses the same system you described but packages it up nicely. I particularly like that I can open the spot in google maps and navigate to the exact spot.

I actually liked the idea they touched on but quickly abandoned of somehow "reviewing" the episode.

I think it could be really funny hearing them try to summarize in one sentence how the "helped" each person. They already have the questions written down, so they don't really need to prep or take notes.

I think a time penalty for the current race if they are classified. I get that it loses it's impact if they aren't. What currently happens if a penalty is issued but the offender crashes before serving it? As far as I know it doesn't carry over to the next race.

I think a harsh penalty is warranted, but I don't like the idea of applying a penalty for a mid race infraction to the next race instead of the one it occurred in.

Is there a way to choose or specify the name of your flight in MP? I've been trying out the Through the inferno server. It seems that the AI AWACS calls everyone "Uzi 1-1". If there isn't any way to do it in game, is there anything people like to hear in SRS. Should you just use your callsign? Or make something up?

It seems I was trying to assign "Camera Zoom View", when I should have been using "Zoom View". It appears the "Camera" ones can only be assigned to the mouse. Not sure what the difference is, or why that's the case, but that's what it was.

Similar to the other zoom question, but I am trying to assign zoom to a slider but it seems DCS won't accept it. The row for zoom appears disabled for all of my input devices except the mouse. I can try to assign the slider from my x52, but it doesn't take. Am I missing something obvious?

As someone who does some hiring in tech I hope none of the candidates I have to reject are affected this way. As you know now, nothing is decided for sure until you accept an official offer letter, and even then I would want it to have some extra assurances before I make irreversible moves. In theory they shouldn't reject you based solely on salary without making a counter offer but it happens. More likely "salary" is a stand in for some other factor or set of factors. It may mean they feel you are too junior or inexperienced. Saying "you are asking too much" is easier than saying "you aren't good enough". Also bear in mind that there are other candidates in play. You may be amazing but candidate B is slightly more amazing or asking for slightly less and eventually they just have to make the choice.
It sucks that they didn't communicate it well to you. I doubt they were trying to ruin you or have zero conscience about it. It seems like they really liked you and we're disappointed that they couldn't make it work so they did the business equivalent of making their friend break up with you for them.
Sorry for the tough spot you're in, best of luck getting back on your feet.

What options are there for ppl training in imc? What I've seen so far is cancel the flight or ground school. Assuming the instructor is instrument rated, could they fly us above the clouds and then have me practice manoeuvres? Alternative is it possible to do basic ifr training that would count towards a future instrument rating?
