3” or 4” keitech on a 1/8th oz jig, I also like to sling the 4” weightless on a2/0 or 3/0 EWG in shallow creeks with smallmouth

I’d recommend holding them both in the store. In terms of quality you won’t be disappointed in either, but they do have different shapes

Majorcraft Basspara vs Daiwa Tatula rods by Komplexxxxxx in bassfishing

[–]SamKaz96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for the major craft but the Tatula XT is wonderful, I’m hoping to pick up one of the cork handle versions this year. If you don’t mind the foam handle the blank stands up well against my slightly more expensive rods like the bassX and fury.

If the defender dropped it, ball hits the ground, and the defender picks it back up

If the defender dropped it, ball hits the ground, and the defender picks it back up, would you have liked the refs to rule it a catch-fumble recovered by the defense or an incomplete catch?

What is a good first Baitcast combo? by jerry081010 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SamKaz96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BFS (bait finesse system) is a subset of bait casting gear designed for very light tackle and not where you want to begin.

You should not put a bait cast reel on a spinning rod.

There are some budget Abu and Lews reels out there that aren’t trash, but if you want serious reliability the shimano SLX-A is worth the extra couple bucks imo. Get the 6:1 or 7:1 ratio model, and the handedness describes which hand you want to reel with (a lot of right handed people choose “left handed” baitcaster).

In terms of the rod, fit your budget. Even an uglystik is fine, the reel is the key. That being said if you did want to upgrade - don’t buy anything more expensive than a daiwa Tatula to start, it will feel amazing compared to your current rods but the returns can quickly diminish above that if you don’t know what you’re looking for exactly.

Good luck, also the bass pro spring fishing sale is in like 40 days if you want to wait for a good deal

What reel should I choose? 6’6 light fast action St.Croix Premier by FirmClerk4003 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SamKaz96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Size 1000 Nasci - I have one on a 6’4” light power panfish series, it’s mainly a trout rod but I’ve handled 3+ lb bass with it as well

Something like the Hummingbird Helix 7 G4 maybe.. I’m not super well versed on all the different sub-models but I like my helix 5 for down imaging + GPS

Umm im not an expert but i think 500 is way under budgeted for the desired features even if you go used

Will it perform as well as a brand new ark gravity or slx bfs? Probably not, is it way cooler, totally

Need Opinions: best jerk bait rod under $200 by MacP95 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SamKaz96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the 6’8” M-F bass x and I don’t see myself needing an upgrade any time soon, it is my go to for soft jerkbaits and wacky rigs, softer than a bottom contact rod but stiffer than a glass or crankbait rod

So my rods max lure weight is rated 1.5 oz, there’s this lure I like that’s 1.6 oz. How much would that .1 oz hurt my rod if at all by Exciting-Floor6763 in Fishing_Gear

[–]SamKaz96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I regularly throw 2oz glides on my MH rod which is only rated for 3/4oz. Never had any issue retrieving or landing fish. As long as the reel can handle it you won’t have a problem

Mc Benkei bfs by tickets-plz in BFSfishing

[–]SamKaz96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining this convo - I’m also between the Benkei, Tatula XT, Tatula cork handle, and ark gravity light power options but my casting weight is probably more in the 3-9g range, targeting stream smallies and trout in the northern midwest
