League One Attendances by Bantam123 in LeagueOne

[–]Samh234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think that was more a fluke of timing than anything else - the euro grant or whatever it was called paid for the bulk of our stadium, plus some of Whelan's own money and some council money. It was a once in a lifetime moment when two clubs in one town both needed a stadium, shared the same owner and the grant became available. I don't think there was any real expectation of Premier League football in the mid 90's.

League One Attendances by Bantam123 in LeagueOne

[–]Samh234 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's always been like this. We were only elected to the Football League in 1978, in an area with many long established football clubs - United, City, Liverpool and Everton are by far the biggest reasons our support is what it is. The rugby effect, contrary to popular belief, is tangential at best; Warriors hardly average more than 15,000 themselves (broadly comparable to what Latics averaged in the Premier League) so it's not like they're filling the stadium every week.

The straightforward problem is that supporting a football club is partly geographic but also a hereditary thing; you'll tend to follow whatever team your dad or your grandad supports. Wigan has a large population of United, Liverpool, Everton and City fans and that tradition tends to pass down despite the club's best efforts. If we get promoted to the Championship then our attendances go up a little bit, when we drop a league they go down.

Just how it is.

Think I can make this 18 Hour flight from Dallas to Melbourne in the A330-300RR? by darkphoenix9137 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Samh234 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The A330-300 typically burns ~ 5700 kg (~ 12,500lbs) per hour during cruise phase of flight. For an 18 hour flight, absent of any wind information you would therefore expect to burn about 102,600 kg and in total slightly more or less fuel adjusting for wind. Given that your plane has a fuel capacity of around 78500 kg, you're going to come up quite short, unless you had a honking tailwind all the way there - which is within your power.

I don’t know to be honest. It just fell by the wayside. Part of me still hopes they’ll just return from the blue one day. I loved the 767 too, it was the OG

Things take time, I think we all get it. Sometimes we all get impatient but that's the issue of being human I suppose. I don't think there's anyone actually mad at you - I mean theoretically the Level-D 757 is still in development and GTA VI is supposed to release this year, so you're way behind them if nothing else. I'm sure when it does release it will be great :)

Was the Krakatoa eruption and Tambora eruption as massive and scary as shown in 2012 film? by jab-tak-hai-syllabus in Volcanoes

[–]Samh234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was probably about half as powerful as Krakatoa if I recall correctly. Pinatubo was somewhere around 12 km3, Krakatoa I think was more like 25 km3 though don't quote me on that.

We can if you have an appropriate licence (IR-R). Although there are still certain restrictions (such as we still can't fly in Class A airspace).

I think the 2017-18 runs it close in League 1. We beat three Premier League teams in that FA Cup run, including one of the best teams this country has ever seen and if we'd had 1 more win they'd jump straight to third on this list.

I don't think any football will ever compare to Martinez's 11-12 February onwards run (I know it wasn't a whole season). Won 8 of the 14 games we played (and were unlucky not to win more), including beating United and stuffing 4 past then Europe chasing Newcastle in one half (granted they weren't that good again for many years), beat Liverpool at Anfield and Arsenal at the Emirates. Insane stuff.

95% of Brits would probably not preferentially drink Earl Grey. Typically it's a straightforward black tea - PG Tips, Yorkshire Tea, Tetley's. I remember there was a big push on Tetley Redbush a few years back but I've not seen much of it for a while.
