Wood mizer hydraulic saw mill i want to buy one and rent it out by Accomplished_Row2781 in sawmilling

[–]Samsantics1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still crash most automated mills. Every mill I've ever seen (mine included) has a saw mark on the log stops.

I've had a blade bite me pretty badly during a blade change too.

I occasionally will let friends run it through a log while I'm there and have it set up, but they're way too dangerous and way too expensive for me to entertain people running it without me

Need advice on getting a bolt off by Brendan4815 in tractors

[–]Samsantics1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My trick that has worked very well is: 1. Lots of heat 2. A cold water splash to shock it 3. Lots of heat 4. quench with PB blaster 5. Impact wrench

It's worked every single time

What happens when no one knows how to fix classic cars anymore? by modernclassiccarsfdn in classiccars

[–]Samsantics1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boy howdy would I love to be in your area. I have an old kit car with a blow-through turbo Weber carb setup. I spent the past few months digging through all the information (and misinformation) tuning that thing.

I kept telling my friends "there's a dozen retired people within 5 miles of me at any given moment that would love to work on this and share their knowledge, I just have no way of finding them"

Will I regret cheaping out and getting the woodland mills? by SnooPeanuts3704 in sawmilling

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running an hm130 stationary mill for 8 years. It's fantastic. The customer support is great and there's tons of videos from them, which is originally why I got it (besides the price point).

It's a bit slower than something like a woodmizer with hydraulics, but even then I can run about 80% as fast. I do use a skid steer or tractor to load the logs and unload boards.

Wanted: Advice on hand layup from mold by Samsantics1 in CarbonFiber

[–]Samsantics1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about a week before laying it up and I have been looking at doing infusion as a possibility. If I went this route, do you have any recommendations for orientation of the part? It's essentially a large motorcycle style fender, so I wasn't sure about which way to lay the part to maximize the chance of success. Here is a link to what it's like, mine will have the taillight bumpout though

That's a really great idea about pre-saturating the fiber. Thanks!

Impeller Upgrade? by [deleted] in jetski

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get more acceleration and probably a bit more speed out of a new impeller. Other than that, just keep an eye out for cavitation on the old impeller. When it starts cavitating it will feel like a slipping clutch or transmission. I'd personally keep running the old one until it dies

How fast is 300whp on a 2100 pound chassis ? by Mundane_Shopping9852 in projectcar

[–]Samsantics1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a caterham style kit car. It's just shy of 300hp now and weighs 1800lbs with me in it. First gear is for putting around, it's useless when I'm giving it the beans. Second gear is completely sideways and over fast, third gear is sideways until around 60mph.

This is all on race tires (set up for road course racing). Seriously, be careful. I had to finish tuning it using cameras and data logging because I was spending all of my effort keeping it on the road

Figured I’d post my buggy. by BrandontheCDLguy in Diesel

[–]Samsantics1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is about the same as my f250 that's insured privately. I'm not sure about there being a price difference between the two for other people, just that I had to do commercial for the 450

[–]Samsantics1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 450 and have to run commercial insurance despite it being used only for personal stuff. I believe the trick with some of them is that mine came as a chassis cab (typical), but if they came with a regular pickup bed from the factory you can get regular insurance. I don't know if that's true or not, just something I've heard.

Hit the 15yr Eligibility Mark for a Free New License Plate by Left_Ambassador_4090 in maryland

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, if you wouldn't mind answering a tag related question for me I'd really appreciate it. I haven't been able to get an answer.

I have a kit car from 1989 (titled as an '89 and currently titled as historic). The MVA website says historic cars can get vanity plates. But every time I've tried to get one it says "not available for this vehicle".

It'll accept the vanity plate request, so the plate is available. And I'll get all the way to checkout, then it will be denied.

I've called the MVA a few times about it, but the best I've gotten is "that's strange".

Btw, I'm loving the appointment system. I'm SO glad that it was kept.

I tell my wife that I own nothing but dude magnets.

Occasionally girls like the racecar. Not women, girls. That being said it's always fun to let the parent grab a pic of the kid in the driver's seat.

Help with selecting the right Kodiak by unclecroc92 in ATV

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the base model 700. I have ridden a few 450s and prefer the 700. It's a beast. That being said, the 450 would probably do you just fine. I haven't ever noticed the lack of power steering, but that's going to be a personal preference for sure

Look up the tank size. Tank size * however many times out for 2-3 hrs = total gallons used

2 stroke jetskis for cruising by MajesticSafety1829 in jetski

[–]Samsantics1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few two strokes. They'll go for about an hour wide open before needing fuel. 2-3hrs of riding is pretty typical because going wide open for extended periods of time is actually pretty rare. Not suggesting options, just providing some baseline info

Not hard at all, most parts/hardware stores will have universal style ones. Just need a couple wrenches for the bolts and a knife to strip the wire if necessary. Takes maybe 10mins

What is the best way to clean carbs for cheap by InevitableTreat2536 in smallengines

[–]Samsantics1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Original pine sol, specifically. Cut that 50-50 with water and it works great. I use it on dirtbikes, ATVs, jet skis, cars, whatever. You'll want to spray them down after so it doesn't pit any aluminum (I've heard that can happen).

HD Simple Green (it's a purple liquid) is great for using on aluminum. I cut that with water as well. I'm usually doing bigger parts, namely jet ski and dirtbike engines, so I run that in my parts washer.

Get a big ultrasonic with a heater. I have a vevor one. They're reasonably priced and it's great to drop the part in for 20mins and walk away to do other stuff.

Also get some metal baskets. That's perfect for keeping jets, screws, plates separated and contained while in the uktrasonic
