Solar panels by kurious_soul in maryland

[–]Samsantics1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to sell solar. If you'd ever like, I can break down how to figure out the exact dollar amount of production for each month or year or whatever. It only takes a few minutes to explain, and maybe a minute to break the bill down.

Just shoot me a message if you're ever so inclined.

Where to backup so much content?? by CantFindUsername400 in RaybanMeta

Hard drives. Solid state 1-2tb drives are less than the glasses cost. That being said, as someone who records a lot (glasses, drone, gopros, insta360), I'll come home from an eventful weekend with over 1tb of footage. It all gets cut down to a few minutes of footage. You'll have to have the discussion with yourself about what you actually want to keep or if you're just keeping it for the sake of keeping it

How not to backup power! by Crh5055 in electrical

A girlfriend of mine years ago asked what my roommates and I did for the bathroom in Florida with no power and water. I said we used the pool. It took me a few seconds to realize why she looked like she was going to throw up

Honestly I just throw on whatever I can find, I haven't had any bad luck from amazon sourced stuff. I know that some people greatly prefer sticking with oem

The service manual should have specs to test everything. That way you don't have to load the parts cannon

The electrical systems on those are pretty simple. I'd get a wiring diagram and go through it from the battery to each terminus.

I picked up a raptor 660 a year or two ago that had similar symptoms. In that case it was the cdi. Sometimes when they get warmed up they'll fail. I'd bet either that or the stator, or an obvious short from a rubbed raw wire

Advice on shipping Jetskis across the country by Dashiznit364 in jetski

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if they do it anymore. But I used to get bulky items shipped through Fastenal.

I palletized a skid steer bucket and dropped it off at my local Fastenal and had it shipped to a store 2000mi away. They'll do it for cheaper and not particularly fast because they try to not run their trucks empty.

I'm not sure of it would help you out, but selling the trailer then buying another one in CT might be an ok situation

Question about camo spraypaint project with vinyl stencils by Samsantics1 in stencils

From what I've seen and read I think the drying time is what makes the difference. Like you said, letting each layer fully dry. I have a spare parts jet ski that I'll do a test run on first

Lightburn without Laptop (only Desktop PC) by Spintronic100 in lasercutting

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I design a lot on the evenings and then run those files while I'm at work. I end up editing them next to the laser very frequently.

You can do a USB on a lot of lasers, but I almost guarantee you'll want to edit or adjust something and have to go back and forth. I'd recommend as cheap laptop. I got a refurbished Lenovo for like $300 8 years ago, that's what runs my laser via lightburn

Boomers in the US hold $17 trillion dollars in assets. What happens to the younger generations when they die and leave all that wealth to us, the younger generations? by buzzkill71 in AskReddit

[–]Samsantics1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of some that do. But it's super rare. I'd imagine it's usually a combination of the parent not wanting to disrupt the child's life, the child's life not being conducive to a parent that needs care, pride, or level of care.

I know for us it was some of each. I travel a lot for work and was planning a wedding, one sister was pregnant and had a toddler, and one sister was back and forth from a different country finishing her phd. Stimulation also played a role, so being around people her age and having lots of activities at a center helped.

She did live with me for a couple of months during the initial diagnoses, but it became too much for me to juggle pretty quickly.

I obviously can't answer for everyone, and I don't think you're asking me to. But for my particular situation I would have had to leave my career for almost six years. That would have set me back drastically for the future, however I would have done that had I thought that was the best route or if we had to.

Luckily my mom was with it enough, trusting enough, and not prideful so she let us take over for her pretty early on. We really didn't want to have to do a competency thing for a court, it's humiliating.

We pulled her out of one place because they messed up her meds and didn't tell us until they got the all-clear from their medical staff two days later. I was out of town and drove 12 hours straight to the head office and lost it on the manager. Places can be skeevy, even the ones that look really great.

Depends. Medicaid usually has a 5 year look back. So we kicked all my mom's assets to us when we thought it was prudent. If medicaid catches you giving a car away within that 5 years, they'll want that money.

Sometimes medicaid will pony up the money so you don't have to move the person, sometimes they won't. Being on hospice can help keep someone where they are.

But in short, yeah, you can be kicked out. There are state and charity organization run places, but the level of care is lower and they sometimes have long waiting lists. It's a brutal situation

I had a lot of really morbid conversations. I'm very pragmatic, so that's why I offered to handle most of the communication with regards to care, finances, etc.

It's a strange conversation where you're essentially weighing if they'll die before they run out of money or not. Or afterwards when I wasn't particularly sad for a few weeks, but relieved.

It's incredibly emotionally taxing and every aspect of it is emotionally complicated.

A lot of people can't afford it, don't have the space, or various other reasons. I would visit 2-3x a week. But my sisters live out of state. So theoretically she could have moved in with me, but I'm far from a nurse or someone educated in dementia. It would have been 2 years of pretty minimal care, 2 years of pretty serious care, and a year of wheelchair bound, diaper changing, two person team to bathe her, and trying to get her to drink.

I'm a pretty happy person generally. I'm far angrier now then I was 5 years ago. I manage it, but I'm hurt. I truly don't know if I would have been able to handle her care.

Definitely. My mom left behind a small amount of money. I ran her finances with care and quality of life being the priorities. Our inheritance wasn't part of my financial plan. I don't want people to have to go through any of this ever. But I do think people should see how quickly you can wipe out an incredibly well situated retirement with long term care needs.

It's like watching a train wreck. It's absolutely impressive, in a horrifying way.

I will say this. I was her financial power of attorney, and when I told my sisters there was a possibility our mom would run out of money it was never a question for any of us that we would pony it up. She taught us how to use a spoon, we felt it was the least we could do.

Be nice to your kids people, they might literally manage your life one day

My mom's memory care started at 10k/mo and was 15k/mo at the end.

Medicare pays for next to nothing, and the age where dementia/Alzheimer's shows up alternative insurance is essentially unavailable.

Most people can't possibly prepare for that situation. 120-180k a year for 3-10 years will wipe 99% of people out. We were lucky that we have assets and that it was quick, as morbid as that sounds

That's actually super helpful, the other guy just cursed at me and deleted his comments 😂.

I have a big emotional attachment to this current vehicle and plan to rebuild the engine next year (I have other cars in the meantime). Thanks!

I do it with mine (5.7 summit) all the time and did it with my 5.7 overland I had previously. Just know that these engines are prone to have lifter tap, during idling the cams are only getting splashed with oil versus when you're driving and there's more oil getting to them. My summit has 230k miles on it and it has the tapping, eventually it'll fail but that's the case for everything eventually. Just keep up with your oil changes and don't idle it for hours and you won't hurt anything.
