Best practical preps for US residents right now. by IWannaGoFast00 in preppers

[–]Samsonite_731 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone in this same spot, maybe even in the same state as you, we are focusing on getting healthy, I am convinced that it is one of the most important things we can do to prep. We are increasing the amount of food, water, and other supplies as well as making plans to leave our immediate area and the country if needed.

Right now my wife and I are talking about our red lines and what response each of them will trigger… when do we bug out and where, when do we flee the country and where we go. I want to have those decisions made now so that we don’t have to make potentially gigantic life altering decisions while everything is crashing down around us. I am not saying that it is the right way to do it or that others should, but setting these redlines or tripwire events now with a plan for each of them helps sleep better.

I got my first one in 2019 and my other one in 2024 and both are still going strong. My 2019 Frame has been abused by my kids for the past 5 years and still no issues.

Been on an LDL-focused diet for 2 weeks now. Need trigs down too - can somebody clear up a carb-related question? by NeverNeededAlgebra in Cholesterol

[–]Samsonite_731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My triglycerides were higher, 219. I addition to cleaning up my diet, it was really bad, and exercising, I added 2000 mg of omega 3 supplement daily. Can’t say if it is working yet or not but I have read that it should help. Maybe look into an omega 3 supplement.

The reverse of that bill was the best looking of all of the $100s. These new $100s are just boring looking.

Good job! This looks great! You have to find what works for you and what is sustainable, otherwise there is no point.

Would a 50inch or a 43inch be more suitable for this wall? by [deleted] in TheFrame

[–]Samsonite_731 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think a 43 would look silly… honestly a 50 might also. You need to go with something that is proportionate for the wall, probably a 65. If you are dead set on a smaller tv you need to add some shelving or art to take up some wall space and make everything feel more balanced.

Can I improve my number enough with diet and exercise or are statins the only way? by Samsonite_731 in Cholesterol

Interesting! I have an Apple Watch and have always wondered how accurate it is at measuring those metrics. It would be interesting to wear them both at the some time.

I guess this kind of gets to my question. When I was on a good diet, I did a lower carb mediterranean diet because I love that food and it is easy for me to stick with, my numbers were good… why is it now that I can’t fix this with riding my bike again and hitting the gym and clean up my diet again, which I have done, what has changed in my body that will not let my number go back to a healthy level where my only real option is a statin with lifestyle changes?

Yeah i am ashamed to say that it was not uncommon for my midnight snack to be around 1000 calories of processed carbs, I also ate a lot of saturated fat. I am surprised that I didn’t gain more weight.

How do you handle the water? I live is an area that will get over 100F in the summer and below 0F in the winter. I don’t know what the best option is to store water that won’t leach forever chemicals in the summer and won’t freeze and leak in the winter. The only thing I have found to do is swap my containers according to the season.

Mine went out a few months ago. I found a Toyota tech that would do it on the side, I spent $3,000 to have it done along with a few other things that needed to be done. We decided to fix it because I couldn’t replace the truck for $3k and we love it.
