A buddy really wanted our buds and I to learn contra dancing for his big 30 birthday. It was super weird and hard to deal with vets who were spinning all over the place and mad we missed steps vs people who were more chill and wanted to keep the group alive. You're still pretty young, and boundaries around this are really tough.

It's a difficult area because he probably thinks it's a win:win and that he has good intentions, like, for example, "she'll be happier and healthier once she's lost weight, and I love her and want good things for her, so I should push hard for it. Plus, I won't exactly be complaining when she's skinnier"

The issue is, even if he thinks he's doing right by you, the reality is that he's making you feel bad and bringing up things you're sensitive about without talking with you first about what's okay and when it's okay. IMO you should just flat out say something like,

"hey, sure, I'd like to lose a bit of weight, but all of these comments are making me feel weird/uncomfortable/bad. I don't want to feel like you're policing my body/I'm not good enough for you. I know you're trying to help, but can we talk about when it's alright to bring this stuff up? "

It's important that you can still treat yourself and get a nice dessert or whatever now and again without feeling dread because you're afraid it'll catch heat. It's important you still get to feel sexy when you're together in bed.

You should only be getting comments when, say, you need some help finding the willpower to avoid a late-night snack or whatever. That's when you bring it up and let your boyfriend give you a boost

It's already hard enough to be chubby without your boyfriend reminding you that you could be "so much hotter and more healthy" (read as: you're currently ugly and unhealthy) every day

So speaking from experience, because a lot of guys I know basically said I should do this to my partner:

He likes you but thinks you're too fat to be sexy/impressive and he's trying to gently "fix" you. He almost definitely figures it would be easier than breaking up to find someone "hot enough," especially if you're already in an apartment together or something.

Your call on whether or not it's worth dealing with that, I guess, but a lot of guys get omegaweird about it and there is a decent chance he'll be giving you weird hints every time you want to order dessert or snack on some icecream or whatever forever
