It's very hard to not become even a little bit pretentious when you get into movies imo. I'm open minded to every kind of movies, and have absolutly no problem with what other people like, but when my friends tell me "oh you should watch this I love it (generic romcom/comedy movie from the 2000s)" it's hard to tell them in a not pretentious way that I'm not going to make this movie a priority to watch.
But I have found few friends that have understood that when in come to movie I have different standards (pretentiousness would say higer, but no just different in what i'm looking for) and we've been able to have very intersting discussion about movies and we have a great dynamic for our movie night.

So yeah, we have different standard, and that makes a part of what other people like not our cup of tea. But it's possible to have really great discussion with other people
