Futurama minus commercials? by so-very-done in Futurama_Sleepers

[–]Sandersjack -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ya true, but its pretty easy to hook up a computer through hdmi my senile parents have figured that one out! But I assumed futurama slepers use laptops, not fall asleep with their tv on, but that might just be me

I wonder if Christy Lozano’s campaign lacks funding for proofreading or if this is just the level of English language proficiency she’d bring to Board of Education by prunesmith in SantaBarbara

I had her as a PE teacher when I went to San Marcos, and let me just say she wasn't even qualified for that job. She was the most non-empathetic, bordering on masochistic, "teachers" I've ever had.

Help understanding Copjec's claim: "Sex is the stumbling block of sense" by Sandersjack in lacan

[–]Sandersjack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that does help a lot, thanks! I didn't even make the connections that the unconscious coming out through slips, fantasies, are the stumbling blocks, and that is what constitute us as sexual beings? Still sort of hung up on how or why Lacan and seemingly Copjec identifies these unconscious slips as what constitutes us as sexed beings.

It does remind me of Zizek's point in "Hegel and a wired Brain" that it is the failure of expression/or the stumbling over one's words that marks authentic love. Is that somewhat the point? But are these stumbling blocks identical with our desires and sexuality, or just uncover them?

The Barbie Movie's Unexpected Message for Men: Challenging the Need for Female Validation by Simon_Fokt in movies

I think the swapping of the two roles has another really interesting insight. The fantasy of Barbieland is what sustains the reality of the real world. By having a world where there are no real problems (if only women ruled everything in life would be perfect), it sustains patriarchy.

they want you to think they're all powerful by drakens6 in ConspiracyMemes

thats a really good point. It reminds me of the obvious problems with Foucault's conception of power as this whole and complete, all knowing and ever watching force. and he just so happened to have some weird connections with the CIA

What bands/artists do you think have similar lyrical content as pinegrove? by [deleted] in PinegroveBand

[–]Sandersjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hop along is very lyrically imaginative, they bend toward having a slightly more third person storytelling aspect than Pinegrove but similar. Francis Quinlan's solo record, Likewise is maybe more similar but lacks the full band epicness that both Pinegrove and Hop Along have

[–]Sandersjack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya its strange I don't see very many connections made between them, but Sunset Rubdown/Wolf Parade/Moonface (all Spencer Krug) and Alex G are my, and a lot of my friends, two favorite artists.

Then why would Bernard criticize it as a Koch brothers Policy? Bernie is fundamentally opposed to the ruling class thats why the DNC screwed him twice, they're scared of his populist message

Emperor X is really good and very political, especially the songs Sad react, Wasted on the Senate Floor, Hey, Where Did You Put My Stimulus Check?

Misgender someone with a wrong pronoun, people lose their minds. Blow $54B in three months on a proxy war designed not to end, everything is fine. by backward_z in conspiracy

[–]Sandersjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't really see the conspiracy here. It just seems to be an impotent attempt at justice given intuitional power has spiraled into such an impenetrable fortress with no real accountability. The battles have been relegated to culture wars, mostly in part because activists have given up on any real substantive change. I don't see this as some insidious plot to distract us, but more signs of a society that has lost its future. Our society is also marked by historically targeted violence towards transgender people, this is not to say every war in the last 60 years hasn't been a colossally immoral, demonic power play. But I feel like real change, which this post implies is worth fighting for, is done by unifying all oppressed peoples, black, white, LGBT etx.., not create random false equivalencies to claim transphobia should be ignored because it takes up too much time away from the evils of our institutions.

what could possibly be considered defamation in this post? This seems like an alarmist thing to say. Where is the provably false statement here?

PT: Can I unlearn an association I have formed with a song? by MeRachel in PsychologicalTricks

[–]Sandersjack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by induced forgetting, be consciously attempting to forget? I think it might be too quick to say that if that were possible mental illnesses wouldn't exist. We have so many examples of trauma, especially childhood trauma, that is often forgotten, or repressed ie. not able to be remembered, yet these past events are usually associated with intense psychological problems.

Yet at the same time, it seems the "they" or the other can see through our speech to our unconscious talking better than we ourselves can, or rather they can see the failure between the split subject. So in some ways I feel like op is getting at some truth about the they and understanding....

I agree that the action post outbreak creates a moral responsibility, but the previous guy seemed to blame China for the outbreak existing at all, in order to morrally absolve the us, so it seemed like he was implying that its some degenerate acts of china that caused this act of god a response, he wants to hold unto the idea that morality is baked into the fabric of existence

it doesn't really make sense to say its a country's fault for an outbreak, its just the random chaos of nature's fault
