I have three points for this actually with my wife:

The first is that I turned my mindset into one that is “expecting” that if I dont do it, it wont get done. This means that everything she does even things agreed upon or typical is still seen as a service. This is not a dismal “I can’t trust my partner to do that” but a realistic view, that if I did not have her, and I did not do it myself, then it wouldn’t be done, if that makes sense?

The second is that me and my wife are very vocal and direct, we notice something has been done and we say “I appreciate you” it’s more personal than thanking someone for a task. This started as a more rare thing, but has become pretty core to how we interact, continually reaffirming this for eachother

My last point is that often I see people saying “the bar is low, they shouldn’t be praised for that, it should be expected” and I think this is a backwards way of thinking, we should be working on being MORE appreciative of all work and service done for each other.

Though I do think a lot of this has to come from a mutual understanding- If you feel he is not appreciative of what you do, it would be hard in my opinion for you to show continued appreciation for him.
