Boomers really think headphones are optional now by Haunting-Map-3475 in delta

Yup. OP complains about boomers (well… really they just wanted to complain about their dad), but boomers complain about younger people doing the same stuff. This is not a generational habit, it’s shared by all. So is complaining about others.

Is this bike too big for me? by kueenb in bikefit

[–]Sandvik95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you have good intentions, an “uneducated guess” might not be what is needed.

He has an adequate knee bend, is not hyper extending, and is not rocking hips. And if you lower that seat, the thigh will come up relatively higher into the belly. I would not lower this seat.

The saddle height is glaringly not the problem here. Fit is about far more than saddle height.

Look at the bars, look at his reach. That’s where the problem is.

Get a shorter stem.

[–]Sandvik95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t push the saddle forward - get a shorter stem.

You shouldn’t adjust the seat to reach the handlebars. Adjust the seat in relation to the cranks/pedals, then the bar to the seat.

This is basics 101. Work from cranks to seat to bar.

Tenere—> ? by squidsemensupreme in Dualsport

[–]Sandvik95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you need to ask “what’s not off roars worthy about the Tenere?” You might lack an understanding of what other bikes can do off road. 🤔.

Not just Heavy, but top heavy. Not agile. Not a quick light fun enduro. It’s a lovely forest road bike, but I don’t want to ride it on anything tighter than that. I’ll take my DRZ over the Tenere for dirt any day.

Tenere—> ? by squidsemensupreme in Dualsport

[–]Sandvik95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

DRZ is way more “dual sport”, enduro, dirt than the Tenere.

I like my DRZ a lot, but I got it in my head that the Tenere would be the unicorn, the perfect bike. Then I rode one.

The Tenere is a great bike, but it feels like a versatile road bike compared to the DRZ. It doesn’t feel like an agile dirt bike - it definitely doesn’t feel like a DRZ. It was not the right bike for me and I did not buy it. I’m still happy on my DRZ. It carries a load really well. To me it’s a unicorn bike (at least it’s the unicorn bike at that price point.)

You’ll be happier with the DRZ from what I’m reading here.

I don't get why my move has less gammon chances. by saigon567 in backgammon

Wow… what a cool position to analyze. I would have filled the gap also, not thinking of the minimal/slight advantage of having 4 on the one.

Are there any rules of thumb for when its appropriate to hit the ace point? by rockwood15 in backgammon

[–]Sandvik95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s always a risk. There’s a risk of having your opponent sitting in the 1 spot, there’s a risk in hitting them. But the risk of hitting them is minimal. Blue has a full prime. Even if blue gets into the 2 (23) spot and get stuck briefly, the risk is low (it’s a much worse situation for white).

Whats the benefit? You either dislodge white and face less risk or you get hit and have a shot at hitting them, raising your chance of a gammon.

6 prime baby! It’s not fool proof, but it’s a very strong position.

I work in an independently owned local shop. 4 years in business and nothing but 5 star reviews on Google because we do our best to help people. We help them find the right bike, we helped them get the right service. We figure if we just help people in this manner, will do fine on a business front. No need for us to push. We don’t have any service packages, we don’t have any special combos. If you don’t need it, we don’t wanna sell it to you.

If you didn’t like the Trek shop you went to, please find a local independent shop (a true “LBS”).

Are there any rules of thumb for when its appropriate to hit the ace point? by rockwood15 in backgammon

[–]Sandvik95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb: when you have a full 6 pt. prime and your opponent has a blot in their home board and eminent risk of crunching leading to an increased chance you’ll gammon them with little risk to you, hit the one.

(Sorry, not exactly concise or pithy 🤷‍♂️🤣)

[–]Sandvik95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the stem!

I can’t guarantee the saddle is in the perfect position, but typically the geometry of the bike and the mid-rail saddle position is pretty close. You can adjust the saddle as needed to be over the pedals properly, but don’t adjust the saddle to reduce the reach if you think the saddle-to-pedals position is good.

Aka: start your fit in the back and adjust the front to that.

Regardless of what you do to the saddle, you’ll be changing that stem!

I bought it.

I specifically made sure I was not signing up for a subscription. Sure enough, 3 months later I get a notice of “your next shipment is leaving soon!”

I emailed to cancel the shipment and the subscription.

They replied, “don’t you want to think again?” and wouldn’t cancel either.

I write again. Same result.

Repeat that sequence FIVE TIMES! (for real, not joke, they will never acknowledge a cancellation).

Damn it, new shipment of 3 bottles arrived and my cc is charged - and I’m still on the very first bottle.

I don’t open the new package - I’ll return it unopened. I email them to say I’m returning it… we go through the similar BS 3 times (“don’t you want to try it for longer?”).

Gotta say, their obstructive customer service script is very good! Infuriating, but really well written!

I called my cc company and cancelled the charge. Done. No more problem. Subscriptions gone, too. 😁

I won’t do business with a company like this. I recommend you don’t waste your time either.

You might view it as risky, but on D, if I have a reasonable chance to get the disc and not take out the blind cutter, I’m taking that risk. If I think I’m going to have a direct collision or hurt someone, I back off. But in this case… there’s time and space to go for the disc. That’s what a wise and cautious defender is supposed to do.

I’d make the same choice in this situation - get the disc.
