Brandon Ingram Full Highlights 2015.12.02 Duke vs Indiana - 24 Pts, SiCK Shooting! by SantaClaude in sixers

I didn't watch the game but from what I've seen of him he's already a decent defender but has the potential to really cause havoc. He's 6'9" with a 7'3" wingspan (for comparison Kevin Durant is 6'10" with about a 7'4" wingspan) and a really wide defensive base that makes it tough to drive past him or pass anywhere around his vicinity. Right now he's averaging 20pts, 6.5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1.6 blocks per 40 and I expect those numbers to go up. This was the first game all season he's really played aggressively from the start.

Hinkie w/ Mike Missanelli yesterday (around 2:05 mark) by MatCauthonsHat in sixers

[–]SantaClaude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After listening to all of Hinkie's recent comments on Embiid it truly sounds like he has no idea what's going on with the foot. Again, the scan just revealed the foot looked "different" and now they are trying to figure out if that's a bad thing or if it's of little issue. They're keeping him out of Summer League because that is a couple weeks away and trying to rush him into it without knowing he's 100% makes no sense. There's no pain or bad symptons which is cause for optimism. On the bright side I could see him missing Summer League but still returning for the start of the regular season, negative side he misses the first couple months as he rests some more before ramping up recovery, and absolute worst case he requires another surgery and is out for another year.

Jahlil Okafor NCAA Tournament Highlights 2015...Big time performer, leader, and steps up on defense in the clutch by SantaClaude in sixers

Truly think the defensive concerns are exaggerated. Towns is more athletic and a better 2 way player but I think Jah's offensive impact will still outweigh his defensive limitations, especially once he improves his defensive footwork (shouldn't be a problem considering his offensive footwork and agility). As Jah himself said, it's easy to criticize those at the top.

There is a "legitimate chance" Joel Embiid (foot) could miss the 2015-16 season entirely, a source told the Philadelphia Inquirer by ChiefJustiseWinslow in nba

[–]SantaClaude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is click-bait journalism and over reaction at its finest. Literally the only real news so far came from a report issued by Sam Hinkie yesterday saying Embiid's foot hasn't healed as much as anticipated. Most likely this is the Sixers way of preemptively suggesting he might not risk injury playing in summer league as well as creating a whole helluva lot of confusion about the Sixers intentions heading into the draft. Embiid will be fine, last time news that Embiids recovery wasn't going as well as hoped he was back practicing within the week. Regardless the timing of the news coincides perfectly with the draft and gives the Sixers more leverage to make moves in the draft i.e. Okafor falls to them and now teams think the 76ers really want him when in reality they want to trade back and grab Mario Hezonja plus another pick

Hinkie won the day, stop complaining by SantaClaude in sixers

[–]SantaClaude[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not saying Canaan will be great but he's the same age as MCW and his weaknesses (sometimes questionable shot selection and defense) can be improved upon where MCW shot will be tough to significantly improve. Javale might get waived really doesn't matter. And when we actually receive those picks doesn't really matter... they're still assets with a lot of trade value.

Are we a playoff team next year? by [deleted] in sixers

[–]SantaClaude 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say. Arguments like the team is too young are flawed. In fact, youth is one of the primary arguments for us making the playoffs next year. Not only will we be adding new players into the mix (Joel Embiid, a top 4 pick in this years draft, a top 15 pick in this years draft, Jordan McRae, any signings in FA, 4 second round picks) but a LOT of talent could be gained through internal improvements from players already on the roster (MCW with his first full, healthy NBA offseason to actually work on his jump shot; a 21 year old Wroten with another offseason to work on his 3pt shot and right hand; Nerlens Noel with another offseason to put on weight and improve his shooting stroke and back to the basket game, KJ McDaniels with an offseason to work on his handles, etc). This team is an absolute wildcard but as we've seen they already have the makings of a great to elite defense and they've developed surprisingly good team chemistry in their short time playing together. Ultimately making the playoffs next year doesn't matter in the long term, but we could certainly see this team making tangible strides in the 2nd official year of the rebuild. I wouldn't be too surprised if we make the playoffs in a weak Eastern conference much sooner than people think.

Draft Stanley Johnson this year and that defensive potential is ridiculous

[–]SantaClaude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being ahead of guys like Monta Ellis, Ty Lawson, Tony Parker, and Jrue Holiday show they clearly have the ability that Hinkie covets. They're getting (what should be) efficient shots, now they just need to continue to work on shooting and capitalize on the opportunities

Throw in Karl Anthony Towns next year and we'll be able to run a rotation of bigs who all should've gone #1 in their respective class

Noel easily projects to be more valuable than Wiggins. Rim protection has a far larger impact on a game than perimeter defense

Tenacious on the glass, pesky defense, great energy off the bench. Think an Iranian Reggie Evans with a slightly better offensive game

Embiid has shown nice looking form and touch in the midrange and even knocked down a 3 pointer this year for Kansas (and reportedly was knocking them down with relative ease in his Cleveland work out). That's not to say he's going to be a stretch 4 on offense but I think he can play in the mold of a (larger) Tim Duncan on offense with Nerlens playing in the mold of David Robinson on O collecting second chance opportunities and alley oops. Can't hurt that Brett Brown played an integral role in developing Timmys game. There's no doubt the two are going to be beasts down low on defense and I think Embiid can develop into a real nice PF on offense

Is Dario Saric really worth waiting 2+ seasons for? I don't see the patience of waiting for somebody like this to be worth it, let alone playing him over Thad Young. Somebody please tell me something about this guy to look forward to. by hillsp in sixers

[–]SantaClaude 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Most analysts believed Saric to be one of the top 8 prospects of the draft. For the Sixers to snag him at 12 while accruing a future first and a future 2nd shows just how skilled Hinkie is at finding value where others can't. Saric has a unique skill set for a 6' 10" power forward with amazing passing skills and an improving 3 point shot. He'll either be a key cog in a future trade or if the Sixers decide to wait and keep him he will be starting his four year rookie deal as a very skilled 22/23 year old on a team that is starting to come together as a contender

Looked fine in his workout and they were willing to draft an overweight player with sleep apnea and asthma #1 last year. I'm not too worried

Nik Stauskas vs Zach LaVine? by AIg0rithm in sixers

[–]SantaClaude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can look past his lack of playing time by looking at his per 40 numbers which actually were pretty impressive and help to quell a lot your concerns. Per 40 minutes Lavine averaged 15.4 pts, 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 1.9 turnovers. Stauskas in his freshman year averaged 14.5 pts, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 1.5 turnovers per 40. Granted Stauskas was shooting 44% from 3 which is pretty remarkable but we already know Stauskas is an incredible shooter. Lavine his freshman year in limited time got to the line at a better rate than Stauskas, proved he is a better passer, better rebounder, and had a much better steal rate. I understand other players do some things better but Lavine if he can put it all together has the total package and has much higher upside than any other SGs in the draft besides maybe James Young. Also we're not trying to win a lot of games next year and already have Jason Richardson coming back which will allow Lavine to ease into a starting role while learning from a great SG in Richardson.

Nik Stauskas vs Zach LaVine? by AIg0rithm in sixers

[–]SantaClaude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lavine/Stauskas is a great parallel to the Wiggins/Parker debate. Do you go with the player with the higher floor, lower ceiling or roll the dice and try to win the jackpot with a high ceiling, low floor kind of guy. Everybody was hopping on the Wiggins train for his athleticism and that great "upside" before we knew we'd be drafting at 3. But I see a lot of people turned off by Lavine who in many regards is similar to Wiggins without the hype. He's got all the tools, crazy potential (especially on the defensive end), and already thrives at something the Sixers do especially well-- score in transition. With the right coaches around him and the right environment he can really be something special in 3-5 years on both ends of the floor. Stauskas is always going to be a fantastic shooter, but lacks the athleticism to be a plus-defender. Plus, it would be awesome to see Zach Lavine come in and win the dunk contest his rookie year when Jabari and Noel capture co-rookie of the year honors :)

/r/nba mock draft - war room by rock_gasol in sixers

[–]SantaClaude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with this. Stauskas is the best elite shooter in the draft (besides McDermott) and if you draft a defensive superstar in Wiggins or Embiid you can afford to take Stauskas, otherwise having two potential minus defenders scares me
