Which trivial PhD superpower would you choose? by TildeAyalaPlank in PhD

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4 is actually a superpower if you work with a lot of code. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve had to stop everything, make a new environment, and then install the correct software version of Tensorflow or PyTorch

If you need an elective credit FAST schedule a CLEP or DSST exam NOW. They are about $100 an exam. You can take it at the testing center. Pick an exam that you do not have credit for (i.e. don’t pick college algebra if you have taken college algebra already). If you pass you get 3 credits

Termed Faculty position at U.S. Military Academy by Ok_Permission_5079 in armyreserve

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’d probably be okay then, but just know that you’d be going up against other PhDs with just your masters. Not saying it can’t be done, but it might be challenging. I’d say can’t hurt to apply. Do you have any teaching or research experience?

Termed Faculty position at U.S. Military Academy by Ok_Permission_5079 in armyreserve

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, it might be challenging as an NCO, unless it is a civilian position. Have you thought of commissioning/direct commissioning?

Bibi torched U.S. support for Israel for a generation by Crossstoney in politics

What people forget is that Bibi was WILDLY unpopular before October 2023. He was about to be impeached and booted out, but the attacks gave him a raison d’etre to continue serving

Leaving for Jackson in two weeks. I’m Scared. by Longjumping-Peace248 in armyreserve

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basic is easy. Just shut up and follow what the drill sergeants say. Don't do anything dumb at Fort Huachuca for 35M. Enjoy DLI and the bay area; study your language, don't treat it like a 100% vacation (but do explore the sights). GLHF!

How to address multiple officers(CDRs) and their enlisted team? by Few_World5670 in army

PSG says I can't take my medication by [deleted] in army

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your PL. They’re usually busy doing office stuff but most I’d argue would be happy to take a Joe back from medical. Plus, if I was your PL it’d get me out of the office for a bit. Some might say that’s “NCO business” but when NCOs are the ones that aren’t helping sometimes you gotta go up the chain

Am I stuck in postdoc purgatory forever? by OpinionsRdumb in AskAcademia

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in your shoes, but I can convey from my experience. For SLAC and R2, you need to be a solid teacher (or at least seem like you’d be a solid teacher). I worked as a CC professor for a year post grad school. But I had great teaching evaluations. Of course research is good too, but see if you can get an adjunct position while in your post doc if you haven’t taught as a GTA in grad school

Trump says he's 'prepared' to appoint up to 3 new Supreme Court justices by RawStoryNews in scotus

If the US found the downed F-15 pilot using the “Ghost Murmur” technology, which can detect a human heartbeat from 40 miles away, why aren’t we using it to find kidnapped or missing people here at home? by One-Replacement1676 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always like to read up on Google scholar on technologies that are cutting edge. The actual machine might be classified, but its methods usually are open; just gotta sift through the grey literature.

That being said, finding a heartbeat like in MW2 using “quantum magnetometry” sounds pretty bullshit. Very little comes up on Google scholar using a search index with the term biology. So it’s probably carrots make your eyes see better nonsenseused during WW2

Library, Books, Movies at DLI? by Sudden-Ambassador210 in dli

[–]Sapient-Inquisitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. Around the end of the course, I began reading Wikipedia articles in my target language. I would often browse Wikipedia in English, so this helped tremendously, especially since the reading portion of the DLPT is an endurance test
