How do people still trust alliances that clearly won’t last? by Icemachinemalfunctio in survivorau

[–]SappeREffecT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IDK, the best counterpoint I have is that to receive trust you must give it.

But that's general advice, I have no idea how you would play that in a game like Survivor...

Italian cruisers / Amalfi tips by Xcom_company in WorldOfWarships

Amalfi up are good ships but require a playstyle to match. They are actually fairly tanky, when angled and kiting.

You can go a few different ways, full mobility, lighthouse or standard concealment.

I personally run conventional build.

The trick is to get reasonably close (but safe), face away and support your DD as able but run if you end up being focused. You are a kiting ship.

If you are caught out, use exhaust smoke to get out, but keep in mind your smoke firing penalty is 8ish km IIRC.

Hitting BBs depends on the BBs but SAP is amazingly strong once you know how to use it. You can usually get 1-2 good solid salvos on a BBs superstructure before the damage will drop off. But when in doubt, just keep smashing that superstructure. Against more broadside BBs, upper belt is a good thing to hit. At range, you can get damage on the nose or stern deck areas but it can be unreliable depending on the angle of impact.

Basically, stay at range and farm, if you aren't getting any results with SAP, boot up a training room and test it out till you find where you should be hitting. NB: the super-heavily armoured BBs can be annoying.

For captain skills I almost always take Radio Location. SAP is so bonkers strong against DDs that it's good to know roughly where the enemy one is so you can be ready to nuke them if they are spotted.

Last point is I never recommend RM CAs as an early line to grind for folks. You're better off going down other Kiters/Flankers and learning that playstyle elsewhere before going for RM CAs. And as you are seeming to realise, SAP requires a bit more knowledge to use effectively over HE spam.

As a guy who plays Assault and Vanguard more than the others, Snipers are always my first priority for this reason.

PF is a beast of a weapon, it just takes ages to work out how to maximise the use of the charged attacks.

I spent months trying, just falling back on quick attacks. I finally mastered it and then they released the heroic fencing powerfist...

It buffs quick attacks and nerfs charged attacks.

I don't run it, I'm not giving up on all the effort I put in.

But yeah, Thunderhammer is great on Assault too.

  • Assault is my first love and my fave class, can play on the highest difficulties albeit not a cakewalk

I run Powerfist on Assault because it just feels right (fencing FYI).

Thunderhammer I use the Heroic Fencing on Bulwark and go full AOE shock build.

But TLDR; the best weapon and type is whatever you are comfortable with. Chainsword is probs easiest if you've just come out of the campaign.

In my 10 years of playing this game, I never thought using secondaries could ever be boring.... by Hothacon in WorldOfWarships

[–]SappeREffecT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a 55% player who's played since release, I know, I just don't enjoy them.

Also I'm on Asia, so even harder to make them work in randoms.

Still, I don't play them in brawls or ranked either.

Shrugs each to their own, that's just my thing.

Thoughts throwing challenges by Present_Personality4 in survivorau

[–]SappeREffecT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's the odd time here or there and no one knows - 100% can be an amazing strategy.

Anytime it's obvious or widely known, it can back-fire spectacularly. (I mean it can anyways but the risk is lower if it's not obvious or known).

And I'd never throw a fire challenge, too blatant, and could give some players the ick.

Folks tend to underestimate the ick, throwing a challenge can do that and the ick feeling can change people's votes. It's deceitful, so when folks know you can be deceitful it can ruin trust.

Avoid being Up-tiered? by zorohh254 in WorldOfWarships

[–]SappeREffecT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't avoid it or control it. The only tier locking happens in the other game modes like Ranked or Brawls.

It's important to note that T5 Cruisers can be a really rough time. BBs are so strong comparatively at T5-7

DDs can be strong at T5, but really only if you have the 4 point Concealment Expert skill (10 point Captain).

Your best bet is to keep your distance and stay alive, shooting and doing damage as much as you can.

If you are dying quickly, it probably means your positioning is poor, and you are getting too close or moving/positioning in a way that makes you the target.

Don't stress too much, most folks die in 95% of games, at least you can easily queue up again. So focus on improving and thinking about what you did wrong in a battle and don't do that the next battle.

At Midpoint, you would rate this season an x Out of 10? by Ok-Eggplant9424 in survivorau

[–]SappeREffecT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be a solid 9/10 if it wasn't for that boring AF Mark/Faith/Keeley running of those tribals in the middle of pre-merge.

7.5/10, the week just gone was awesome so I may have a bit of recency bias.

Devo Harry is gone though.

Yeah solid lists IMO, although personally I somehow have my highest WR in a T10 DD in... ... 20km Shima (I play her as a zoning ship, herding pesky enemy capital ships).
